“Misleadingly rated No. 2 after Pangkor Laut Resort!!”
Reviewed September 1, 2011

First off, Pangkor Laut Resort is known in M'sia and worlwide as THE hotel resort, attracting celebrities . So when we saw Anjungan rated No. 2 after Pangkor Laut, naturally this raised our expectations - of course we didn't expect such a high class hotel as the rates are significantly lower than Pangkor Laut... BUT we DID expect the minimum required of a "resort and spa". It does not fall in that category!! We have also been to Pangkor Island Resort Hotel and that would be better rated No. 2.

Anjungan is more of a choice for Budget Travellers. It is nicely located between jungle & beach and has a very lost-in-nature feel about it, with hornbills freely flying around. Rooms are minimalist, in line with the nature concept - similarly the service eg. check-out is 11am and to extend is RM15 per hour!!! Anjungan is NOT on the beach, its across the road with no view of the sea/beach due to latest constructions. Also there are lots of little cafe's dotting the beach which really takes away the beauty of the beach. We tried the well reviewed Daddy's Cafe - FOOD was fairly good, but service was bad and being rather close to the far-end river flowing into the sea, there was a stale smell in the air!! So all matters considered Anjungan's rating should be REVISED DOWN!!

Anjungan Resort and Spa. But no spa !!! Feel like being cheated ! The location is far and remote. The only good thing is near to the beach. The front desk staff is extremely annoying and RUDE ! Never encounter this kind of hospitality before. We booked for family room. But when we arrived, they say our reservation is not exist ! God hell, bloody money sucker, I have paid the deposit ! After I showed the prove that I paid, finally they found my reservation. NO EXTRA BED is allowed !!! Only 4 persons is allowed to enter resort area beyond the front desk !!! Strictly not allow those name not registered. Even small kids are not allowed. And we are forced to rent another room ! Weird policy ! Cannot refund if cancel on the spot. The fat Malay guy at front desk was so rude ! Totally unacceptable. RM375 for this kind of service, attitude and room.. Nightmare ! At the end, we choose to rent another room in a chalet nearby. RM100 for a family room to accommodate more than 4. Anjungan Resort is totally overated ! Don't stay there if you go with family with kids, unless you want to rent 2 rooms

Room Tip: Coral Bay Hotel and others nearby are definitely better !

The location is perfect, it is just 2 minutes walk from Coral beach, that has a beautiful sea, beach and two very good restaurants on the sand.
The room was "nice" but not so clean as expected. The bathroom has a big window without glass or mosquito net, so when you go to the bathroom in the evening and you switch on the light, lots of insects and mosquitoes will come...and it is not pleasant. We had to go to the bathroom very quickly and be alert...
The breakfast is not included in the room, but you can have it there. It is quite poor.
I would go back there just for the location.

Ah! and the name is Anjungan Beach Resort & Spa...but they don't have a Spa...

We stayed here for four nights a week or so ago, in room 113. It's a nice looking hotel in a super-pretty area and we were in off-season so there was hardly anyone else around, which was nice. The hotel has a nice, clean pool (although quite shallow and not large) and fun to see the monkeys and hornbills all around.
I give this place a low ranking though as our room was infested with mosquitoes. I'm pregnant so they are particularly attracted to me at the moment, but even my husband who is usually left alone by the mosquitoes was constantly bitten from head to toe. The problem seemed to be that there was no glass in our bathroom window, just a sheet that had been pinned up. But there were gaps in this sheet, and toilet in the bathroom leaked so there was stagnant water in the bathroom; and the bathroom wasn't air conditioned, so the temperature in there was extreme and the mosquitoes just flooded in. I asked the staff for a fan to use at night to try and blow the mosquitoes off us, but that didn't work, the horrible things even crawled into our bed to bite us!
By the end of our four nights at Anjungan we were exhausted from lack of sleep and covered in bites, no matter how much repellent we applied. So if you want to stay here, just make sure you ask for a mosquito-proof room.

Anjungan looks really nice from the outside with the buildings around the pool area but the finishing on the rooms on the inside is of reasonable to poor quality (scratches on wall, poor paint job, rickety shower screen, cleanliness variable). Nevertheless, the deluxe double room was comfortable and large and the a/c worked well. Our room connected to another room and when the adjacent room was occupied we found it difficult to sleep as we could hear through/under the connecting door.

We had a room with a balcony which was pleasant to sit on overlooking the pool. While we were there the lawn was getting cut with a brushcutter - two consecutive days from 4-6pm (so just when you'd want to be sitting on the balcony or by the pool relaxing). The guy really seemed to enjoy brushcutting as it took so long!

The location is good, close to Coral Bay and also really close to the mini mart that is open to 11pm.

The on-site restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch - limited choices, average taste and not cheap (e.g. RM10-12 for a set breakfast), but there isn't much choice of places to eat in low season. The best place we found at Teluk Nipah was Horizon Restaurant but it seemed to be open some nights and not others (and hard to predict in advance opening times).

I'm not sure of the value for money - for the quality of the inside of the room, RM170 seems a bit on the expensive side. Even something like including breakfast would make it seem better value. On the positive side, we were really thankful for the pool and not that many places at Teluk Nipah seemed to have them.

The staff at the front desk weren't the friendliest but otherwise okay.

Room Tip: In rooms that connect to others the noise seems to travel easily through the door/under the door.

I think the previous poor reviews were written by people who thought they were going to a Caribbean style resort and not a 170RM hotel. We’ve done a lot of travelling and thought this resort was just fine.
We booked in advance via email. We took a taxi to the resort for 15RM and check in was smooth. The room key acts activates the a/c and once on, it cools the room quickly. We couldn’t get the a/c remote to adjust the a/c, but you can reach up and manually move the louvers so the a/c doesn’t blow directly on you when you’re sleeping.
The room is clean with a decent bathroom that has a separate shower so your bathroom floor will be dry. There’s a closet but no hangers, a small fridge, a kettle with coffee and a large private balcony. All rooms face the very clean pool which is surrounded by loungers and umbrellas. The wifi is free in the lobby and works well. The resort isn’t on the beach but is close enough to walk. The TV only gets a two channels so bring something to do in the evenings.
Breakfast and lunch at the resort were satisfactory and the price reasonable – I had a cheese omelette with sambal and it was more than enough. Food is added to your bill which you settle on checkout. The staff are very friendly and helpful and were sad to see us go.
I think that the word RESORT is a misnomer – and leads people to have certain expectations that you are not going to find here. Do some research, know what you’re getting into and you’ll enjoy your time here.

Room Tip: 3rd floor - good exercise!

its a private area with great food around..best place to eat is at Island one Cafe. Food is great and best of all the owner is so polite and it just feels right. restaurant is by the beach and its really beautiful. The hotel should serve breakfast for the price they charged and should try to make payments more of a convinience to customers than a hassel.
Should have more food choices at the hotel restaurant. With all said and done, it was a great place to stay with family friends or a couple.
