So on our way to Palau Pangkor traveling from Melaka, we had a couple fo days to kill before we could carry on to the island and the hotel we chose was Lumut Country Resort, based upon it’s lower cost and relatively good reviews on Trip Advisor.
Well let me explain the place to you.
Lumut Country Resort was a nice place to stay I suspect, 10 years ago, but now it’s a tired hotel in a one horse town.
The first impression is of a place that needs a coat of paint or three.
The rooms are OK, comfortable enough beds, crappy TV with no English channels, a very worn out and dirty bathroom.
The swimming pool makes quite an impression with it’s luminous green water.
It looks like they have no idea what they are doing with the chemicals, I witnessed them chucking chemicals in willy nilly but never once saw them take a water test.
The real problem though with Lumut Country Resort is the name.
It’s not in the country it’s in a crappy little town that has no use other than as a place to catch the ferry to Pulau Pangkor.
And it is not a resort it’s a tired old hotel.
The simple fact is although there are some more expensive hotels in this town, realistically nobody should stay in this town for more than one day, so why pay more for a bed for a night.
We certainly would not chose to stay in Lumut again in any hotel no matter how good it might be, we simply would pass though as soon as possible.
Oh and if you live in Lumut and take exception to my description of your town, then I’m sorry but it really does not have much going for it, the waterfront is dirty, nobody seems to be interested in clearing all the rubbish away and the food options are limited.
