“Authentic nasi kandar”
Reviewed January 24, 2013 via mobile

Been to this eatery a couple of times...one can find it a bit busy during lunch hours due to the proximity of the business and corporate surroundings but ample seating area available. Service is fast due to the non-stop stream of customers.Food quality on par with others. Good selection of dishes throughout the day

“special nasi vanggey for decades”
Reviewed December 2, 2012

This outlet is one of the oldest in ipoh. Been there more than half centuries, was very popular back at 50's during my mother's time. The must try menu include nasi vanggey..

“Warning : Addiction possible ... :-)”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

Ever since i was introduced to this place by a friend in late 2009 , i've been coming back here for the nasi kandar 5 times and have brought along other family members and relatives too.

5 times may not sound a lot but considering that i stay in Kuantan which is about 500+ km away from Ipoh, that should say something about this place :) ... I always make it a point to drop by here usually when in the vicinity or en-route to Penang

Btw, you gotta be a nasi kandar and curry connoisseur to be this crazy about it...:)

This particular nasi kandar operator occupies a spot in an old-school Chinese coffee shop called Kedai Kopi Yong Suan, and therefore to locate it you need to look for the coffee shop signboard as there are no really visible signboard saying 'Vanggey' ... however, you may also spot this shop by the consistently long queue of customers waiting for their rice fix (self-service style) ... You can also opt to find a table first and be served although by this method you can't personally pick and choose the exact cut of fish, beef or chicken that you want.

Peak meal times are really packed with people and tables are usually fully occupied and table sharing with strangers are not uncommon and may be the only way to go about it.

There's a newer branch of Vanggey (in Ipoh Greentown) which i have never been to but feedbacks say it is not as authentic and not as good (or addictive) as this original outlet within Yong Suan Coffee Shop.

While you're enjoying the rice and curry, Yong Suan itself serves magical dessert eg the caramel pudding which is just heavenly after a savoury and spicy meal... the coffee is a killer too

“Ipoh famous Mamak Restaurant”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

Some are addicted to it, as if the rice is drugged, literally. Good location, but its rival at the other end of the shop lot is my preference.

“Super spicey and value for money”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Rumor has it that they put ganja in their food, which is so good it makes you come back for more. Whatever the reason, its a great place to eat. I have been eating their food for 30 odd years. The best food are the Ayam Masak Merah (Red Spiced Chicken) and Chicken Kurma and also the Beef Liver Rendang. Squid is not too bad but pricey. Their coconut sambal is unique to them. You can find a place to sit but if you wish to order take away, the lines are very long.
