We stayed here late January while doing a car tour of Malaysia. This is a nice renovated hotel that is clean comfortable and has a number of great eating places within a five to ten minute walk.

Staff here are very friendly, when I checked in three people offered to help with my bags and the beds are comfortable.

They also have a very cute restaurant/deli, the food is ok not great but ok if you want to eat in house as we did one night because we were so tired, otherwise I would recommend reading out the food in ipoh is fantastic :-)

This hotel is quite surprising. It doesn't look much from the outside, but once you get into the foyer, it is modern and the restaurant upstairs is very good. The rooms are bright, clean and the bathroom has a great shower. I would definitely stay there again

Discovered this hotel by accident while on a working trip last July (2013) and haven't stayed anywhere else in Ipoh since.

The rooms were tastefully appointed with comfortable beds and pillows. Rooms were clean and thoughtfully laid out. However, a word of caution, if you are sharing a room and value modesty and privacy, pick a room with solid-walled bathrooms as oppose to the glassed enclosure types. The frosted panels do not cover the entire transparent wall demarcating the shower stall and the bedroom. Be warned!

Parking is provided for free but is situated a short walk away in an open car park area manned by several retirees. Do not be fooled, however, these "uncles" are wily and quite efficient in slapping a parking ticket stub on your windscreen while you are just getting out of your car. Just tell them you are a hotel guest and make sure to display your complimentary parking coupon on the dashboard of your car once it has been issued. Otherwise, prepare to suffer the grumbles of the "uncles".

Depending on your room rates, breakfast is complimentary. There are 3 options to chose from; American, fresh n healthy (consisting cereal with milk, a cut of local fruits and juice/coffee/tea), and Malaysian (nasi lemak). Make sure to get your breakfast coupon from the receptionist before proceeding to the breakfast venue, Jose n Deli (JnD). Otherwise, you may order ala carte. JnD also serves ala carte lunch and dinner. The dessert selection is the bane of dieters and weight watchers.

But most visitors to Ipoh are there for the local fare. To this end, the hotel provides a food-spotters map marking the various local delights and the walking distances (measured in minutes) to each. Ask the receptionist and he/she will be more than willing to point you in the right direction.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main road may get the occasional traffic noise.

Whilst it looked a little uninspiring from the outside, this hotel proved to be really nice. Check-in was a breeze, the staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable and clean. The small restaurant serves great food and you can take your own wine. All in all a worthwhile experience

Stayed for one night as I attended a wedding dinner. The wedding restaurant (Pusing Public Seafood Restaurant - Great food there too) was just behind this hotel, therefore decided to book this hotel. I booked a super king bed room without window. Well, the rooms and service at the reception was a pleasant surprise. Friendly receptionist and fantastic room. The room was large enough and I loved the rain shower. There is a nicely decorated deli at the 1st floor. Make sure you visit this deli and have a coffee. I did not try to breakfast since I was in Ipoh....lots of local food. Location wise it is convenient within walking distance to several local coffee shops. From the hotel entrance main road walk towards the right and about 400m you see a McDonalds, turn left into the lane to get some local food.

Room Tip: Since the hotel is an old building and is refurbished now, the view for rooms with windows are nothi...

We went to Ipoh to visit relatives and spent 3 nights at Ipoh French Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised with the rooms. We had booked the Super Deluxe King and also the deluxe twin single for the kids. I recommend asking for rooms facing the back of the hotel as it is quieter. This hotel does not have interconnecting doors but we had rooms on the same floor. Rooms were on the small side but for the amount we paid for the room that was okay. The rooms were clean and the bathroom was sufficient with strong water pressure in shower. At reception they informed us that there was a promotion where breakfast was included. You get to choose what breakfast you would like beforehand then pass the voucher to the restaurant, Jose & Deli. We choose the breakfast with 2 x fried eggs etc (American breakfast). There was also a Malaysian breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised with Jose & Deli from reading previous reviews as food was good although there is a little waiting time. We were also at the hotel with 6 other relatives and so in total there was 10 of us. We were able to find a table fit all of us and we managed to receive a tea or coffee with our plate of breakfast. It was good to have breakfast there as it saved us looking around for breakfast especially as there was a big group of us.
The atmosphere in the cafe was quiet and modern Deco something you wouldn't expect in Ipoh. We took the ETS from KL to Ipoh and the Ipoh train station is only 5 min taxi ride to Ipoh French Hotel. I liked the location of the Hotel most restaurants were within 5-10min away.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms at back of hotel as front of hotel has bright light because of the hotel sign glaring...

This budget hotel at RM150 plus 10% service tax and 5% govt tax for a Superior King size bed is value for money. We stayed one night enroute to Penang but will come back again for longer stay to savour Ipoh street food again. Shower water pressure good and air conditioning works.

The hotel was originally owned by a French, hence it's name. When he died it changed hands and new owners invested in simple, practical but appealing furniture and fittings. New and clean. Staff at reception are helpful and knowledgeable of tourist matters.

Its located within 5-10 minutes walk many famous eateries like the fame Foh San Dim Sum, two Chicken Bean Sprout kingpins, Lou Wong and Ong Kee, Egg tart and other confectionery popular Hong Kee, Soft bean curd Funny Mountain and a stone throw from Ipoh's Central Market.

Room Tip: A bigger room does not cost much and you get 4-5 star equivalent comfort.
