“Nice & clean”

Located in the town where most of the nice local food are in walking distance. The interior of this hotel is beautiful yet comfortable. Compact and fully equipped. They provide us with maps for historical places and best food in town. I will come here again.

It was really worth upgrading to a bigger room on the 5th floor, room 508 facing the back of the hotel. It was quieter, away from the busy street and you have a nice view of the town and the ring of mountains/hills? And the pillows! They were heaven!

The girls at reception were so, so, so helpful, I cannot thank them enough - they really made my stay wonderful.

However, I would be wary about going to Jo & Deli. The first day that I arrived, I meet the owner and her management crew and they were very friendly. However, on the third day, I was overcharged and was not given the correct change by the wait staff which had to be sorted out over the phone with management who was not around. From then, I experienced some coldness, hence even stopped going for my complimentary breakfasts.

Room Tip: upgrade tio a bigger room. i initially booked an extra deluxe king room and discovered that it is an...

One weekend while we were living in KL, my husband and I jumped on a train and ended up in Ipoh, and we found the hotel as we were wandering through the city. What a lovely surprise! We particularly like the recently renovated café on the first floor. The design is comfortable and inviting, and the food (and coffee) was good.
Our room, although it had no window, was nicely organized and decorated.
Very good value for money.

Located in the town centre, the French Hotel offers great value overall. Approx USD50 got us a modern and clean room (with window haha) and a pre-ordered breakfast. The words convenience, cleanliness, cozyness and practicality spring to mind. If you are not looking for luxury, but rather a very good place to stay in Ipoh at a fair price, this hotel is for you.
Pros: King size bed, pillows and linen were comfortable, shower water was strong and hot, TV worked (new model but with limited channels), AC was cold, place was very clean and well kept. Staff was friendly over the phone and in person and spoke very good English. Price was very very fair.
Not so great: breakfast had to be pre-ordered from 3 options. The food was acceptable but modest in quantity. Parking was provided but in an open lot a block from the hotel in a subpar location.
Negatives: wifi had a very weak signal in the room, and we had to stick with our 3g plan. We wanted a refill for the coffee at breakfast and it was denied!!!really??!!

Final note to guests and owners: the exterior of the hotel betrays what's inside. When we were about to arrive, a dreadful feeling that we would end up in a one star decreptic place loomed. That did not make sense considering the reviews and recommendations. We were very relieved when we stepped in and it all made sense. It was the opposite of a mirage, I guess....owners, do something about the facade, it doesn't do justice to your excellent business!

Well situated for restaurants and bars, this well-run modern hotel was perfect for our 2 nights in Ipoh, breaking our journey between KL and Penang. Staff are professional and very helpful, directing us to some great restaurants and fixing up a tour of local places of interest. Room a good size, comfortable with a great shower - could do with a fridge though. Breakfast was fine, but only 3 choice of meals so a bit limited. Ipoh is a nice city, friendly and unspoilt by tourism.

Came on a short 2 day trip to Ipoh. The super deluxe king size room are great value for money. The front desk staff hoar & Wanessa are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast at Joan & Deli has limited options but great ambience.

The prices for the room was very reasonable. The location is very good. It is walking distance to alot of places. There are cabs waiting outside the hotel usually. The room and the bathroom was clean. The staff are very attentive and always willing to help. The only downsides will be that there isn't a refrigerator in the room and there is only one chair in the room. The TV had limited channels available. We did not have hot water running one morning, which was most needed, as it was raining the night before. However, given that there are not many hotels to choose from in Ipoh, this hotel did look much better than many others. Worth the money. Comfortable stay.
