“a good location hotel in Ipoh”
Reviewed January 5, 2012

My family & I spent our new year holidays in Ipoh and we booked online a hotel that is convenient to all good eateries and souvenir (read: pomelos, Hiang Peng and Ipoh white coffee) shops. Hotel Eastern is a good choice in terms of location. However, though the hotel has been renovated recently, our executive room's armchair and cabinets looks tired and old. We did not opt for the executive room as it is the only available room online. I am particular about the stains on the bath towels too.
The spaciousness of the room, the vicinity to Foo Shan Dim Sum Restaurant and flexibility to extend our check out time to 2pm somehow made up of the defects.

Tried to book a few hotels with swimming pool but all were either full or left with very expensive rooms. I ended up booking a deluxe suite at Eastern Hotel, which comes with a queen bed and a single bed, just nice for my family.

Location: This hotel is located in the center of Ipoh town. McD is just less than 100m away, and the infamous 老黄 bean sprout chicken in walking distance. Due to the location of his hotel, there is limited parking in the back of the hotel. Cars were parked behind one another and I had to reverse my car once to give way to another car, unless I'm willing to leave my car key with the reception.

Room: The room was big, clean and new! Floor was fixed wih carpet. Other than a double bed and a single bed, there were 2 side tables, a TV (32" LCD) on a table, a fridge, another table with wall mirror, two single sofa chairs, and one single revolving chair. All these look very new or at least the management had tried their very best to make it like new. Well done.

Bathroom: There is only shower and no bathtub. The shower head was the "rain" type, and the walls were fixed with clean and large tiles, which don't look cheap at all. While most hotels usually have the soaps, shampoo, shower gel, etc placed in the toilet. This hotel had those placed in a beautiful box instead. Everything were arranged neatly inside the box and looked very luxury. Very impressive.

Value: Paid RM168 a night for the room. Although this hotel have neither gym nor swimming pool, I'm really impressed by the effort that the management had put in to maintain the room into a tiptop condition. This is a very old building and yet the interior (other than the lift) doesn't look old at all. And the lift, the control panel was the 1980s type, which I don't think can be changed, but what the management did was to put in new panels on all sides of the interior wall, including the top and bottom.

I'd definitely stay in this hotel again.

We stayed here for a night. It was a really good deal, RM88 a night right smack in the middle of town. We called ahead to book and based on the reviews here, we requested rooms facing the alley, away from the roads.
When we were shown our room, firstly it was facing the road. The room had also not been properly cleaned, with the ashtray not cleared and the toilet yet to be cleaned. The room stank of cigarette and no amount of refreshener managed to get rid of the smell.
That night, I only manage to sleep
at 5am and spend the night being tortured by both the smell and the sound of cars and motorbikes honking.
I really do think that if I had gotten a room facing the alley and the room didn't stink of cigarette, the room is really good value for money.

Not recommended if you are used to residential home stay with low noise emission. Is 1:30am, and I am still not able to sleep due to the motorracing noise:(

This hotel was renovated early 2011 and has since been well maintained. The room rates are very affordable. We had a family room with 2 king size beds for about 70 US$. The locations is right in the middle between the old and the new town, all within walking distance.
The hotel has no swimming pool and does not serve breakfast, but what do you expect at these prices. Breakfast can easily be found within a short distance from the hotel, both Asian style or fastfood (McD/KFC).
