Read through the reviews but still went ahead to book a Family room through Asia Travel.com for RM250 per night (Incl 3 breakfast, in fact 4 as the staff were kind enough not to charge my younger 11yrs old kid). Main reason for booking this badly reviewed property was that my bus arriving at the terminal would be within walking distance to the place. You can see this bright yellow building just next to MS Hotel when the buses / cars turns into the town from the expressways.
I was a wee bit apprehensive upon arrival. Yes, this is an old old property which deserves a thorough uplifting. But for around SIN$100, having a Family Room (triple bed) at a central location, how much more can I expect. The room at 11 floor which I had was clearly a refurbished room. The toilets were clean & functioning well. LCD TV, safety box, extra pillows...well you get all that's expected from most hotels. Yes, true that they do not provide the usual 2 bottles of drinking water.
The Chinese restaurant within the property seems to be quite popular. It was quite crowded on my first night. And it was fully booked for an marriage occasion on my 2nd night. Hence, no opportunity to try it out.
Breakfast was okay, nothing to shout about. The proximity to the Berjaya Mega Mall is a plus plus plus. The Malay chicken rice stall round the corner deserves at least a mention here.
All in all, I did not regret very much checking into this hotel.
