Drove long driving trip to kuantan and swiss garden is my first choice! Buffet breakfast is included in the package! Sumptous international buffet! Pool included and if you, can go see turtle in a short drive if within turtle season and can walk to beach to view spectacular seaview!

We were here 23-25 Aug 2011. This would make it our 4th or 5th visit...I've lost count.

We booked the deluxe garden family package offered through their website. The first time we stayed, we took their lovely Premier sea-view room which took the brunt of the morning sun. It made it very uncomfortable to sit on the balcony with the heat and glare from the sun. From then on, we would book garden-view rooms.

The hotel staff was very nice and upgraded us to a Premier Sea-view Room and this time, it was a room which had a lovely view without the glare of the morning sun. The premier rooms are bigger and newer than the deluxe rooms and usually, we aren't too fussed with the rooms, since we would be outdoors most of the time. However, this time, with the rain, we really appreciated the cosy and comfortable premier room. Luckily we brought the Wii as it kept the kids occupied when it rained.

Aside from the Wii, we also brought laptops and cameras, all which needed electricity for charging/usage and this room had no shortage of power sockets. Great plus point!

The bathroom is a bit small, and as with most hotels that we've been in, there were not enough hooks and bars for hanging used towels, esp when you're trying to be environmentally friendly and trying not to have towels laundered everyday. There is a retractable line for wet clothes and also a bar outside at the balcony. Another gripe I have with re-using towels for the next day is that the staff folds them up and neatly places them on the towel rack, so you don't know which towel is yours, where as, if they left it on the hooks, I'd know which is which. This happens in every hotel I've been in from the 5-star ones to the dingy 3-star ones.

The pools here are good. The children's pool is big and about 2 feet deep. I like the fact that it has a couple of trees by the side, where I can sit in the pool, in the shade and keep an eye on my kids. Though my kids are too big for this pool, they only venture into the adult pool every now and then. The reason being is that it is 5feet (1.5m) deep, even at the edges, and they can't stand up in this pool. So, when they get tired, they head onto the semi-circular steps which leads into the pool and sit there to rest. Of course, boredom usually sets in very quickly and they head on back to the kiddy pool. There is also a jacuzzi nearby.

The beach area is great with shady spots, long stretch of beach, motorised and non-motorised sports eg volley ball, soccer goals, kite flying, etc. Good thing is that they didn't have any touts trying to sell their stuff/services. Never went into the sea to swim, only for dipping. Apparently, there are strong under-currents, so we prefer to swim in the pool.

Our family package allowed us to have 2 activities for free, so we chose batik painting for 2 of us. Previously, the batik painting area was just by the pool, so, while it was hot there, it allowed me to paint and keep an eye on my kids when they were in the water. Now, the batik painting area is in the games room, so my poor son was grumpy as he had to wait for us to finish painting before he could go use the pool. Well, at least we had air-conditioning while we painted!

The games room has lots of video-games. You will need to buy tokens - with cash - you can't charge it to your room. They also have an assortment of board games (Scrabble, snakes n ladders, chess, etc), carom, table-tennis (all free) and Wii machine (hourly rate). The fitness centre/gym is tucked away here.

Breakfast for 2 adults and 2 kids, were part of the package. Not a wide spread but enough for us. There is local and western fare. Local varies from nasi lemak to nasi briyani, curry chicken, rice porridge with various side dishes, and fried noodles. There is an egg station outside the restaurant. There was also baked beans, pancakes, sausages, fried potatoes if you fancied a hot breakfast. Offered daily were croissants, toast, buns, cakes, danish pastries, cereals, fruit juice, tea and coffee. The coffee is brewed in batches and kept warm through out the morning, so it didn't taste that good. We went to the coffee lounge, hoping to get a better brew but it was closed - during the fasting month, they only open from 3pm. So, we waited until the breakfast buffet was over, then came down to the restaurant again, to order the coffee, so that each cup was freshly brewed.

Lunch was ala carte at the same restaurant. It was ok, nothing to shout about. Dim sum at the Chinese restaurant was good.

We love it here because it is so close to so many great and cheap restaurants. If you are adventurous and wish to eat outside, and have a car, there are a few places near the hotel, along the main road. From the hotel, if you turn left, and go along past BlackRock (Batu Hitam), you will come across some restaurants on your left. One is in the middle of the row - Sebintang (Area) Seafood Restaurant. This Malay restaurant has good "ikan bakar", which is fish grilled on banana leaf topped with a spicy sauce. You can ask for the sauce to be served separately. My kids love their Nasi Goreng Pattaya (Pattaya Fried Rice), which is fried rice wrapped in a thin omelette crepe, topped with chilli sauce.

100m further, there is Pak Su Seafood restaurant. It used to be our favourite for deep fried fish and baked crabs but has declined in quality and it's pricey by Kuantan's standards. It is halal. Another 10mins away, you'd be in the town center. We hear Zul's satay in town is to die for but we couldn't fit it in this trip.

If you liked home-cooked Chinese dishes, try Mido Seafood Restaurant (non halal). From the hotel, turn right. Head about 5mins along the main road. You will pass a Petronas Petrol Station and cemetery on your left. Slow down. Look for a row of wooden shop lots on your left. Mido is the first shop in the row next to the Digi shop. Don't blink...or you'll miss it!

100-200m away on the other side of the road, is Sri Jembal. The "ikan bakar" here is also very good. Less spicy than at Sebintang.

Swiss Garden Resort and Spa- will we be back yet again?? Well, we've tried the new Zenith-5star hotel in town, Holiday Villa and Impiana Hotel - both in Cherating and will never go back there...ever! We'll definitely be back here for some R&R (unless we feel really energetic, then it's off to our other favourite - Club Med Cherating!)

This is really a classic Beach Hotel, we stayed there for just one night and that was on the 29th of August, wish we had stayed another day or two.
The staff were friendly the service was superb, especially after having experienced third rate service in some five star hotels even in the city this beach hotel stands out.
The guest sometimes need some teaching, the man at the pool was doing a superb job, making sure all was safe, a sign at the Jacuzzi specifically stated that children under the age of 16 are not allowed in and yet some people still did so with their children, and the Guard had to ask them to leave ever so often.
This is the Ugly side of Malaysia, educated people setting a bad example with their children, one even refused to budge after the guard had blown the whistle and asked him to move the child out.
To the staff of Swiss Garden my compliments, the egg boy was overworked so he did not greet us with as smile but rather a frown - understandable, especially when people are in the queue and some inconsiderates jsut go on ordering egg after egg - two omelets, a bulls eye, another omelet and then asked for scrambled, it was not only him who was frowning but the rest in the queue.
I am considering being back on the Malaysia Day weekend.

Room tip: Ask for the pool view if you want the view, if you want absolute privacy where you can changw witht he windows open ask for the jungle front

Stayed in this place. Didnt bother checking reviews as it seemed like a good international brand hotel.
Dont bother going here, its not worth the hassle.
At the time we booked, the Hyatt down the road was about 20 dollars more. The Hyatt has an excellent beach ( 1 of 2 in kuantan, the other is at club med) with loads of facilities.

Bought a Family room with a Surf package.
Room view was overlooking the car park next to the main road-its not a garden as described.
Upon checkin the girl didnt know anything about a surf package. Each item on the package required a voucher. I provided proof of the package and a print off of what was required. 30 minutes later after a bunch of calls. I got about 80% of what i paid for.
I was also supposed to get 15% off all food and drink.
To my surprise this did not include alcohol only included 1 restaurant in the hotel.
The western style buffet did not exist. Instead they had a local buffet. I checked out the food here and found it to be an open air outside buffet with an insect infestation. Every bit of food i saw had flies or insects on it. The locals didnt seem bothered by this. i ended up eating in outside restaurants except for breakfast which was surprisingly ok.

Package activites that we paid for.
Paintball is a joke. Its not really a paintball area. Target practice was a board 5 feet in front of you.
Jetski was unavailable even though the manager insisted it worked.
Quad bikes looked extremely dangerous. I opted not to ride them even though we had vouchers for them .Covered in oil and were kid size, i questioned the staff and they just said thats all we have.
Pool was ok.
Poolside bar never opened.
"nightclub" /late night bar had 4 people in it, probably cos the drink was extremely expensive even by western standards.
3 different staff member gave 3 different prices for the same beverages...
Hotel was infested with beetles. Couldnt open a door with some flying in or falling off the door.
Internet barely worked.
A horrible experience,. I shall never visit a swiss hotel again.

The rooms are neat and lovely, with a beautiful beach and swimming pool. Gym room was nice. It is 10 minutes drive to Kuantan. Well decorated. I was on a business trip and had to travel pretty long way to Kemaman. Not exactly suitable for business in Kemaman. It is a very nice resort. You'll enjoy more if you are looking for relaxation and beach. If you looking for otherwise, you should at least have a trasport.
