“Nice hotel, Nice beach but not cheap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

I like the setting of the Hyatt and I like the overall feel of the place. Right on top of a lovely beach and its nice and airy, no windows in the main areas which gives it a nice cool feel.
Only stayed here two nights so this is not a comprehensive review.
best things I liked are the pool area/ swim up bar and the beach (although it is a public beach) also the service is pretty good too.
Staff are friendly and happy to help, do so with a smile on their faces. They have good evening entertainment with a live band every evening.
The rooms aren't that great, think they could do with some renovation. Also it is very pricey, again a small beer costs around £5, seems abit excessive.
Would go back, but only because there is no competition along the beach front and I think they know that too!!

One of the worse hotel experinces I have had. This hotel claims that it has five star standard, which is also the range of their pricing policy. Firstly the hotel is extremely worn down, and on top of this they do not even manage to clean the rooms properly, prepare rooms with clean bed sheets, etc.
The quality of food and the professionalism of staff at the restaurants is also far from the standard.
Hyatt Regency at Kuantan was once a nice establishment at an attractive location, and now it most of all looks like that poor management has downgraded this hotel, which should be rated with no more than 3 stars.
I was informed that compliance checks for the standard of this hotel is done by a local committee, so it is no wonder that we see such trend, which I, also, have noticed at a number of other 4-5 star hotel brands in Malaysia outside KL area.
It should be an embarresment for the Hyatt group that the Hyatt Kuantan establishment represents their brand name.
I do not recommend that anyone waste time/effort and money on vacating at this hotel. 3 stars hotels in the sorrounding area may be as good a choice.

We used the Chinese New Year break to stay a couple of nights. This was our second visit after 2.5 years. Like last time we stayed at the Regency Club as we wanted to avail of the lounge facilities. Even though it was expensive.

On the positive side the sea facing rooms do have a very nice atmosphere specially with the surf pounding away. I also felt the service at the Club (can't say about the other rooms) was very good. The staff tried to personalise by remembering names and making polite small talk. Ms Chin and Mark were the best. The resort was crowded so meal times was particularly stressful but the staff managed to keep their humour and composure. Internet connectivity at the lounge is free and reasonably fast.

The downside is that the resort is indeed old and badly needs renovation. I have heard of plans before and now but there has been no development. It gives an impression of being 3 star though the rooms are not bad. Parking is another issue. I kept my car outside the hotel on the side road (actually the road ends at the entrance to the club so there is no through traffic) as directed by the security guard. Came back in the evening to see a big dent in the back. The hotel security was very helpful. They took me to the Police station in town to lodge a report. But it should not have happened in the first place. So drivers beware. Though I am not sure what is the other alternative.

Will we stay here again? Maybe next time we will check out the Club Med which is further north. Kuantan itself doesn't have much to offer. But if we need to stay at Kuantan there is no better option.

Room Tip: Pay extra and go for the sea facing rooms.

Good hotel. Staff are great and very well trained and helpful. Rooms are alittle tired but still well appointed and kept clean. Overall it's a good hotel and probably the best place to stay in Kuantan. Not cheap by any measure and even more expensive on holiday weekends. RM500 over CNY weekend per night .

Have stayed before and will stay again.

I have to agree with the comments about the hotel being in need of a refurbishment. For those used to staying at Hyatt in Asia where their hotels are out of this world, this one is quite old. However it doesn't really matter cause everything else says Hyatt. The staff is helpful and friendly, the premises are clean and well maintained. Two good size pools and one for little kiddies, playground. The restaurants are nice and the food is fresh. I have to agree that it's worth to spend a bit more and get a club room with regency club access. The rooms are good size and clean, and its nice to get a sea view one. We love it here and our small kids too. It's great for families.

Room Tip: They have inter connection rooms. The best is to get a corner suite and an interconnecting standard...

It may not be the best charming hotel in the region but it's close from KL, the beach is perfect and the service is good. The prices are correct and in that part of Malaysia, it may be difficult to find a better price/quality hotel.
The rooms are spacious, clean. The breakfast buffet is excellent.
I'll definitively go back there for a weekend.

We stayed in Hyatt Kuantan during the Chinese New Year holidays and the hotel was crowded with both, local and foreign tourists. Despite the crowd, the staff did a good job in providing the guest with the best service possible. Two thumbs up especially for Nasir from F&B as well as Mark, the assistant manager for their attention and assistance during our stay.

The room (garden view in village 1) was comfortable enough for 2 adults and 2 children. However, since our room was located in front of the lift and along the main walkway, we can clearly hear people talking when passing by and the sound was quite unbearable especially in the morning and late evening.

The hotel comes with 2 beautiful pools, thus even with a full house, the crowd at the pools during peak hours were bearable. However, the hotel may want to be more strict in ensuring guests uses proper swimming clothes when using the pools. The beach is just a few steps away and clean. There is a recreation room equipped with 2 snooker tables, 1 foosball table and a small play area for children under 6. Guest need to pay to use the snooker / foosball tables. Other than that, guest have the option of going to the spa or workout in the gym.

Breakfast buffet and ala carte dishes were good. Room service was quite quick and efficient. However, we noted that some F&B staff were quite inexperience and have problem in communicating with foreign tourist due to their lack of command in English. This can be a major issue if not properly manage. If you feel like eating out, there are also local and fast food restaurants available just a walking distance from the hotel, in front of the Teluk Chempedak beach.

Other recommendation:
- Front desk may want to provide detail explanations to guests on their reservations during check-in. I personally had to ask and confirm about my reservation (bed+breakfast) and special requests during check-in. In our case, we had declared our children during hotel reservations(through Hyatt website) for room+breakfast package. However, there was a misunderstanding on the breakfast charges for our kids, which we were not properly informed during hotel online booking as well as during check-in. Nevertheless, the staff were quick to resolve the issue. Thus, it would be best to state the possible additional charges up-front during reservations / check-in.

Being the only hotel on the most famous beach in Kuantan, Hyatt would still remain as our main choice when visiting the city.

Room Tip: # Request for rooms further away from main walkway, stairs and lift.
