“Too expensive for what it offers”

If you want to pay €200 per night for a club floor room (because they tell you there are no other rooms available when in fact there are) for hordes of screaming children, two pools one of which is supposed to be adults only but in fact is also filled with kids, razor thin walls so you can hear everything that is happening in the room next to you, "renovated" rooms falling apart, having to wait forever for breakfast because there are no tables available and inflexible policies that won't allow you to check in even half an hour earlier than the official time, then by all means stay here.

I loved the way the hotel is laid out... with ample green plants everywhere you turn... the long corridors reminded me of Intercontinental Jimbaran Bali... its relaxing and therapeutic as i walk along the corridors.. (for me anyways....)... I got a room with a lousy view... but I could tell if you got a room with the beach view, it can be nice...

The bed was soft... which is not good for the back. so i asked for extra blanket and slept on the floor.... :D its crazy, a supposedly international hotel linked to an international hotel chain, has lousy bed.... the extra blanket they gave me had holes in it... LOL :D

The best part about this resort, is the breakfast cafe... We got a table where the crowd wouldnt be a bother to us, and we sat facing the sea and sunrise... It was BLISS....

Try this hotel, if only for a weekend getaway.... nothing more..

Not a honeymoon resort....

Room Tip: ask for beach facing room.

Stayed 4 nights at the Hyatt Regency Kuantan in Aug 2012. my stay was during the muslim fasting month of ramadhan, and over a weekend too. The hotel was packed with tourists during this time. The Hyatt is one of the oldest hotels in Kuantan, and has gone through renovations and upgrades over the year, leaving the hotel still in good shape. It has a wonderful location, right on the beach of Teluk Chempedak, 5mins from the centre of town. Just outside the hotel a lot of development has taken place, with huge drive-ins of the usual fast-food chains: macdonald’s Kentucky fried chicken, burger king.. There are also lots of restaurants and bars, making this small beach quite the tourist destination. This is therefore the nice family holiday spot, but not really the place for solitude or appreciation of the beauty of Malaysia’s eastern coastline and its famous beaches.

The rooms are nice and spacious, with easy access to the two pools and the beach. Bathrooms are too small however, for my liking.. quite cramped in fact. Nothing spectacular about the room facilities, but all in working order and sufficient for the holiday-maker who is going to be spending more time outside than inside your room.

What I didn’t like – internet is not free, as it should be. I still can’t understand why hotels charge for a basic facility like broadband! The room service was also lacking, and the reason for this was the fasting month. Unfortunately, hotel staff, who are predominantly muslim, neglect their duties to serve quests for their religious practices, and this is not professional. However, in the spirit of tolerance, I will reserve judgement here, and hope that outside the fasting month, service is normal and efficient.

All in all, a nice stay, in a nice location.

Room Tip: sea facing rooms are obviously better, but pricier

I like the place. Maybe some rooms could be renovated, but I continue to go to escape KL with my family. The food is nice, but need to have more sea food and bbq fish. Choice is not too much at night.

I have stayed in this hotel several times whenever I have work in Kuantan. Location-wise, it's quite nice. Both the sea view and garden view rooms offer good albeit contrasting views though I prefer the garden view room in the new wing as it is more spacious than the old sea view rooms. Furnishings are pretty outdated. The rooms almost have the feel of being trapped in the 90s. Bathrooms are pretty basic (read: just blah). TVs have bad reception and not many channels either. The Hyatt was probably a 5 star hotel with luxe rooms once upon a time but the quality has taken quite a dip since then. Service was great though. The staff members are always polite and helpful. The buffet breakfast by the beach is also very nice with a wide selection of food. All in all, it's a decent place to stay.. just don't expect it to be luxurious.

My aunt and I along with her son decided to spend the long aidilfitri here. To out horror we found out upon check in that we had to wait for our room. Although they provided us with light snacks at the hospitality room but still the 1.5 hrs wait was painful esp since we had a long drive from KL. once we got our room it look awhile longer fr them to sort out the roller bed and other things. To add on to our list of horror we learnt that there was water distruption. Id rate the room 5/10. Cleanliness 5/10. Food 6/10

The beach? Priceless
