This review is written keeping in mind we only stayed briefly at the Tune Hotel, Kota Bahru one night (10:00pm to 8:30am). Based on just wanting a super cheap 'budget room to sleep' we (2 couples travelling together) would give it top marks for the following reasons:

- 15 min approx taxi ride (RM30, prepaid, from airport to hotel)
- 24 hour reception with super friendly, accommodating staff
- free internet in lobby to use anytime
- room was small but efficiently used and still had room to place bags down and still walk around full area of bed, etc
- queen bed with super clean bedding, and super comfortable bed and pillows (5* for comfort)
- largish flat screen TV attached to wall at bed foot end
- HUGE celing fan (one of best in any hotel I've been to, ever)
- Very efficient, very quiet Air Conditioning
- Power points for recharging appliances
- Hot/Cold shower with good water pressure in western glass screen shower
- Hairdryer
- Cafe on 1st floor (get to by some outside steps)
- Convenience store (9am to 11pm) at bottom just outside hotel
- Hungry Jacks, KFC, etc literally across road at entrance to massive, modern shopping mall

For all of this we paid something like the grand sum of AUD$7.

Tune is a 'user pays' type set up which is great as the base cost for the above basics is minimal then you pay for the 'extras' you want (air con, tv, toiletry pack). We paid about AUD$6 for 12 hour block of air con and a toiletry pack (towel, shampoo, soap). Whilst the air con was quiet and worked really well we probably could have got away without it as the massive fan also worked a treat and that is already included in your base cost.

Next time we head over to the Perhentian's we will definitely be staying a few nights at the Tune again to see a bit more of the area surrounding Kota Bahru and the city itself (stayed here once in the late 90's and it was a really interesting city).

You really cannot go wrong with this hotel for cleanliness and service hence I have given it 5 out of 5 based on what is provided for the price even though it is a budget hotel. I haven't added photo's as they are exactly as on their official websites; very accurate.

Well done Tune! :)

We have stayed in a few tune hotels in other places but the KB room is the biggest , and it comes with a window! The bed is very comfortable.
May we suggest the rooms (in all Tune Hotels) be fitted with more hooks n railings on the walls so guests can hang more, hence less cluster on the floor.

Despite being next to the KB Mall ( which has all the franchise food joints), there is a lack of cafes or restaurant selling the local food and cakes. We had to go to Pasar Khadijah to sample those.

Room Tip: Get a room with a window, facing the highway.

We decided to stay a night in KB Tune Hotel after our diving trip in Perhentian island through Kuala Besut jetty. We checked on the price for budget hotels around the town and apparently Tune shows the cheapest with good values. I had bad experience with other Tune hotels at KK Sabah and LCCT airport, but I still gave a try to KB Tune based on what I read from all the reviews here.

Well, it doesn't disappoint me. We got a room of 2 single beds with window, adding a comfort kits with 24 hours air cond. Clean room and good bed. KB mall is just right beside Tune and there is a mini mart downstair so you could get some snacks and drinks at late night. In the morning, you could either try out cafe of Tune or walk opposite to some good local breakfast with nice coffee. As KB tune is located a bit far from downtown area, you could simply take a taxi to downtown at RM10-RM15 per ride. Not forget to praise the good smiling hotel staffs who recommended us nice Malay local food and helped to call taxi for us.

Room Tip: Try to get higher floor with window

I recently stayed here on a business trip for 10 days. This hotel is just great for me. I got a room for RM30+ per night without air conditioner and tv. The room comes with a ceiling fan which you can use without any extra charges, and the best thing is the comfortable bed and pillow. Rooms and the hotel environment is very clean almost like a 5 star hotel (but not as luxurious as a 5 star hotel). I felt very safe staying here as they have good security system with keycard entrance to your room. The room comes with comfortable bed and 2 pillows (1 for each person - no extra pillows given), nicely designed modern bathroom with hot water shower, sitting toilet, a big half size mirror and a hairdryer which you can use without any extra charges and an in room safebox. I opted the room with a window which was facing the city at the 9th floor. Staffs are friendly and helpful and they are at the counter 24 hours to assist you. If you are comfortable with the weather, you dont have to purchase the air conditioner. But at times Kota Bharu can be very hot. I purchased for 12 hours and used it for 3 days (used about 4 hours per day).

Positive points: very cheap, yet very comfortable, very clean and very safe. House keeping is done everyday without extra charges, linen changed every 2 days once or you may request to be changed daily. But after several days staying in the same room, i noticed my room to be dusty. Had to notify them about it. Staffs are very friendly. There is a car park situated at level 3 at the building next to tune hotel building. Its RM3/day. There is no direct link between the car park building and Tune hotel building, need some walking. Before going to the car park, you need to get a pass card at tune hotel. Otherwise the gate will not open and you will have to reverse back you car (park your car outside, put some coins in the parking meter, check in to the hotel, get a pass card, then drive to the car park) Car park is very quiet and lonely with not many cars. Not sure about the safety.
You will be staying in the centre of kota bharu city, surrounded by good local chinese and malay (halal) food. Kota Bharu mall (most famous shopping mall in kota bharu) is just within a stone throw away. You get all the fast food here and a nice place for shopping. Across the road is a nice chinese vegetarian food shop which is open everyday from morning till night. There is also a Hindu temple and 2 churches across the road. In the hotel, there is Hayaki Cafe open 24 hours per day. Its awesome and i had breakfast everyday here. Below the hotel there is a convinient shop well stocked with essential items and magazines.

Negative point: can be very noisy and dusty even at higher floors because the flyover is very near to the hotel building, need to take a walk to the car park, rooms are not sound proof. You may hear kids playing in the next room which can be annoying, no bell boy to help you with your luggages, if you rent a towel, you need to return back to the reception upon check out.

I will always return back to this hotel on my future trips to Kota Bharu. Its cheap, comfortable, safe and surrounded by good food.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms facing the mall and at higher level as rooms facing the road can be extremely noisy...

Overall is good but there is still something which not satisfy me. The water heater in bathroom is not hot enough. And the bathroom can't lock. It will be great if the room is bigger. But still it is good stay. Good job.
