“Great holiday!!”
Reviewed July 3, 2011

We stayed in Langkawi for 8 days and loved it. We stayed on Pantai Cenang beach, which is central to beaches, shopping and restaurants.

We were really lucky with the weather - and no jellyfish! I was a tad worried about jellyfish but all we saw was a few harmless ones washed up.

We went on a sunset dinner cruise, a day cruise, hired a scooter one day and a car another. We ate some fantastic food! No where was bad - some restaurants more expensive than others but really great experiences at all.

The island is only small and not party central but that's not what we wanted. We were after beaches and sightseeing which is exactly what we got. Drinks are super cheap (compared to Aust) and meals were definitely cheaper - great seafood!!

One must do is the cable car - I'm scared of heights yet managed it. Some of the waterfalls require a fair bit of up hill stair climbing so prob not great for little kids. So worth the walk up there though - especially if you go for a dip.

The only thing I would give a miss is Eagle Square - really nothing to see there and we preferred the mangroves or beaches etc over manmade. Oh and another tip - ladies bring tissues with you! Most toilets don't have paper :)

Overall a great experience and we'd go back there for sure!!

“The Andaman Pearl”

I havd been to few beach destinations across the globe which included, Barcelona, Algarve, Estoril, San Francisco, Krabi etc.
Langkawi was by far the best option with peace, tranquility, cheap accommodation with lot to explore in terms of scenery, activity and shopping. One good thing is you can get to Satun (Thailand) in two hours by ferry.

I found Langkawi good for SCUBA, Snorkelling, Sailing, Hiking. Even they have something for amateur flyers as well.

“Honeymoon Paradise”
Reviewed June 14, 2011

Langkawi was a last minute addition to my Honeymoon destination and it was the perfect gift by my husband. Langkawi, an island paradise, is an hour by flight from KL city. We stayed at the Berjayas Resort, very close to the famous Cable Car tourist destination. Berjayas Resort was the perfect ambiance with beautiful water chalets overlooking the sea. Though we personally didnt visit much of the Tourist Hot Spots, we did manage to the see the Historical Field of Burnt Rice and the beautiful Underwater World. There are a lot of water activities / sports / adventures that one can do in Langkawi. The minute you land at the airport, do remember to pick up the various free leaflets on the city listing down the various guides and tour operators. These would also help you plan your trip there. Do not forget the Cable Car ride as its exhilarating and the view of the entire island city from there is breathtaking. Overall, Langkawi is a perfect getaway for a group of friends looking for some adventure plus a couple looking for romantic bliss.

Numerous food stalls, cafes and restaurants all over the island. From the food stalls at the night markets to the top hotels.
Tried Laksa, BeeHoon Soup from Laksa Kaw Stall in Padang Matsirat. Yummy!!!!!
Masala Thosai from Red Tomato Nasi Kandar in Pantai Cenang.
Jacket Potato with Tuna from Kalico Cafe at Perdana Beach Resort. Fresh wonderful seafood at Orkid Ria in Pantai Cenang, the excellent Poolside BBQ dinner at The Danna at Pantai Kok.
The list goes on and on. Be a foodie and you'll find yourself in paradise.
Don't take my words for it. Try for yourself and I am sure you'll be pleasantly suprised.

“Langkawi - A very unique beach experience”
Reviewed June 8, 2011

We, a group of 3 families, 11 person went to Langkawi during may 21-24 and enjoyed it immensely, so much so, that we felt, we should have had 1-2 more days there. For subscribers of Trip Advisor, i am hereby please to narrate my experience.

We flew from KL by Air Asia - low cost flight is a great value for money and reached on time.

I chose Mertius hotel (decent price, big rooms, close to airport in the heart of pentai cenang, he most happening area in the otherwise quiet town) out of choices such as :
Rebak - Taj group hotel could have offered us better Indian vegetarian food and lowe rates but we would have been confined to the little island in the evenings with no ferry service
Berjaya - 4 star grand property but small rooms hence not taken
Casa Del Mar - great 5 star hotel in the heart of Langkawi at Pentai Cenang appropriate for romantic quiet holiday and not for family
Bonton ot Temple tree - expensive so not worth it, although one should visit.
Andamans & Datai are far from the main city and good for couples of family with their own vehicle
Sheraton - perhaps the 2nd best choice at a price little less than Meritus, smaller rooms and a great musical arena called chimes.
Westin would be a good choice of hotel if one can get it at the price of Meritus and if one liked to live closer to the capital city of Kuah instead of more serene countryside like Pentai Cenang.

We had a fulfilling experience at Meritus where we stayed.
From the airport we rented a car on our Indian license - car is cheap here and driving a pleasure.,

In Langkawi cabbies are very honest and strictly operate by regulated rates printed on a card as opposed to scrupulous cabbies in KL.

What we enjoyed here in Langkawi were as follows:

1. children loved langkawi for ATV ride at oriental center (near cable car), go cart and water sports.
2. cable car was not that great an experience for the money it charges and considering that we recently had gone to cable car at Genting.
3. Our friends who had recently visited Langkawi had already warned us against going to Under water world so we did not, don't think its worth it if one has been to ocean world as Hongkong, Bangkok or Singapore
4. I loved the drive to Datai and Andamans and enjoyed being at Gulai house - a restaurant in the middle of rain forest.
5. Langkawi is very unique beach experience, jelly fish cases are over exaggerated, unlike beaches in other south east asian destination, beaches here are narrows strips from where all u can see is natural rainforest around u, a scenery that i have not come across elsewhere and the town resembles a laid back version of small American serene and picturesque country side town like Vermont etc with lesser crowd and great and safe infrastructure.
6. The ride to Kuah was amazing and it is certainly the best place to shop for duty free chocolates, alcohol and ciggaretes. Even otherwise i would recommend going to Kuah as it is so different from more sedate pentai stretch.
7. One may enjoy being at the paddy fields nearby in the harvest season
8. we specially loved food which was economical at Mumbai Palace and Oasis (great beach side joint)
9. Sunbar is by far the best night club but action starts amazingly after 1 and carries on till 3-4 in the morning.
10. through out the island one hardly sees police or security thereby giving a testimony to the safety and integrity of people in the islands.
11. We did not go for island hopping or mangrove which are supposedly the best experiences in Langkawi because:

A - we already had plans to go island hopping in Kota Kinabalu next
B- Its expensive and not worth the price
C - We have already been island hopping in thailand and to mangroves or bat caves in Vietnam last year.

12. we missed going to Tomatoes the breakfast place, there is another tomatoes not so great for meals. We did not enjoy being at the eagle rock night club at Awana Porto and were little turned off at the un-happening nature of the so called happening pentai cenang as ts no where as bristling as Phuket, Koh Samui etc. but if one is looking for beach activities, restaurants etc, his is a place to stay in langkawi.

13. One should be most careful about correctly negotiating deals for mangrove or island hopping as not only they are a rip off but there is a possibility to save a lot of money here as its not a very well organised sector. Perhaps the closely held community takes advantage of tourist in these things.

GO LANGKAWI
