We had a very nice and interesting tour in the jungle with Ijan. He learned us a lot of the nature on Langkawi. Ijan is a very well-informed guide and enjoy his work. We were lucky that day in february. There where many birds, we saw the great hornbill and other birds I don´t remember all the names.
We saw the monkey, dusky leaf. And learned a lot of trees and the vegetations. We can rekomend this tour to other people who are interinsted of the nature.
It was good to do this tour in the morning, afternoon is to hot at least in february.
Thank you Ijan from Marianne and Anders Sweden.

We took the half day wildlife/photography tour, not because we're serious camera buffs but because we wanted a guided tour of the wildlife of Langkawi. It's all there but you do need to know where to look. These guys were great and Jan our leader had all the academic qualifications for wildlife, conservation and marine biology but was able to explain things in an easy going way.

We were picked up at 8am but were a little puzzled when we stopped after just 10 minutes but sure enough right there in a tree top was the nest of a White Bellied Eagle with a chick being fed. We were provided with binoculars and a spotting scope was set-up which gave such clear and close up views of the birds.

A little further on we arrived at a small jetty deep in the mangroves from where the local wooden fishing boats work. Here the wildlife was numerous including several species of Kingfisher, a Heron, a large unidentified snake on the mudflats, lots of bright red mud crabs and right on cue, an Eagle that swooped down over the water just metres away and plucked out a fish.

Then we were taken up into the thickly wooden mountains and the highest part of the island. Again the guys knew exactly where to stop and set up the spotting scope focused on a hole in a tree, easily visible from the roadside. Within 10 minutes a Hornbill was heard calling and duly arrived to feed young in the nest. But it got better as we drove further and stopped again to witness right in front of us, 4 Hornbills flitting from tree to tree and crossing right over our heads with that distinctive 'woosh woosh' sound of a large bird.

Of course we were lucky to spot all these and so many other birds that day but the trip itself would have been worth it just for the scenery and serenity of the mountains and some great views from the very top. At nearly 5 hours duration its possibly not suited to small children but otherwise is highly recommended.

We booked the UNESCO Mangrove Tour to see a different side of Langkawi - besides our nature resort :-) Ijan was our guide and did an exceptional job of explaining the wildlife and nature. He showed us various animals and sites - the bat cave was very exciting.

Although this tour is pricier than the others offered, we enjoyed it especially because there was NO feeding of the wildlife and the boat moved slow in order not to damage the mangroves. We recommend booking this tour - for the love of nature.

We took part in 2 Junglewalla tours. The first was a daytime tour guided by Jimmy, the second was an afterdark tour guided by Francis.

Jimmy's enthusiasm about the rainforest ecosystem is really contagious, I guess noone can speak about a strangling fig with such an eoitional indulgence but him. We were 9 in the group plus Jimmy. I would definitely avoid jungletours with more than 4-6 participants. 9 walking tourists in the jungle make so much noise that it was a miracle that we could see at least 3 beautiful hornbills. Furtunately plants cannot run ...

The afterdark tour proved to be a real, unforgettable attraction. It is rather a van-tour since we were taken by a van upto the top of Gunung Raja. We stopped at least 5-6 times on the uphill ride for a short walk and observation. We managed to see a beautiful Great hornbill feeding his wife and the chick in the nest! Whatever sound we heard, or living creatures we saw, Francis knew a wonderful story of it, besides the precise scientific background of course.

We have to remember our driver (Dan?) as well, he has sharp eyes and shares the love of nature and thanks to him we could observe even more animals (e.g. Scorpion crossing the street).

Both guides were excellent, funny, smart enviromentalists with wide intellectual horizon, I would rate the afterdark tour a bit higher but my wife does not agree, so both recieved five stars.

The Mangrove Tour was great. Walking fish, monkeys, exotic birds, bat cave. The best part was our guide, Daia. She has loads of information and some funny stories, too.
