“Excellent Food - Do not skip the dessert!”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Five of us went there for dinner last week (Jan 2013), The food was excellent and the desserts were superb!. The restaurant has a great setting and wish we could have gone there during daylight hours to take some pics. Yes lots of cats around but they did not get in the way. Service was good, although the cashier/restaurant manager seemed a bit 'cool' if not unfriendly. The bill was approx RM 500 with a few drinks thrown in, so not cheap, but we thought it was good value. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying in the Pantai Cenang/Tengah area.

“Still great the second time”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

This is our second visit to Nam at Bon Ton. We had such fond memories of dinner here 2 years ago that we decided to return. We're glad that this place is still the same, delicious food and beautiful setting and ambience. Its even more lovely than I remember it because it was raining the last time we visited, and it was a clear day the second time. My young chidren loved the cats which were roaming around. But I noticed that they are much "better behaved" now, and no longer venture under the tables and brush against the legs of diners as they used to.

Ooops, this is a restaurant review, let me say something about the food! The Nyonya platter, which I had 2 years ago, is still as awesome. You must try it.

The only tiny flaw about this place is that dinner only starts at 7pm, which is kinda late for families with young children like us.

“Delightful dinner!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Love the ambience and definitely the food! We had the privilege to taste the ever delicious Curry Laksa which was not in the menu. Simply awesome! Would definitely go back for that!

“Special place, excellent food”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

Bon Ton's Nam restaurant was recommended by a fellow guest in a poolside chat at the Westin resort. We made a 25-minute taxi ride from Kuah to try it out. Before we'd finished the first course we'd decided to rebook. The Bon Ton resort is a curious one, made up of old Malay wooden houses relocated to this small site by the Australiann owner. The accommodation clusters in a deceptively bohemian manner around a pool next to a natural lagoon. The aesthetic of the place is understated but real.To arrive for dinner just before service and bring your aperatif up into an adjacent wooden house to watch the sunset over the lagoon is to get into the spirit of the place. The food that follows is delightful. We had a mixed starter of Bali-style seafood satay on a lemongrass stick; fragrant fishcakes; grilled tail of rock lobster (very like Aussie 'bay bugs'). Then a a lightly coconut-flavoured fish soup and a grilled haloumeh salad. For mains we had the 'Nyonya' mixed platter both nights, varying it with a prawn pineapple curry once and a seafood grill mix the other. The Nyona is a kind of Malay / Thai equivalent of a rijsttafel or tapas platter, with curried lamb and beef, casseroled aubergine, cubed lightly fried fish, grilled prawns and curried pineapple arrayed on a large banana leaf. Every item was rich but delicate in flavour, inviting slow but very satisfied eating. Staff were very friendly and good expert advice was available though levels of English-speaking varied. Yes there were some cats about but they weren't a problem (and I'm not a big fan!). Prices - not cheap. Pretty much western levels. But so good. The place and ambience are a real asset, but the food matches and surpasses. Bonus moment - as we came down the laneway in our taxi to the restaurant, a huge water monitor lizard paced across the grass nearby. Looked like a 3/4 size komodo dragon. Stunning. In Bon Ton you are in no doubt you are in south-east Asia, visually and on the palate. Great place.
