We chose the mangrove boat tour with Dev's Adventure, due to all their positive reviews here on TA. We're happy with the experience we had; the guides were very professional and knowledgeable, and our guide in particular, Shuhada, was also funny and very pleasant to be around with. She had an answer for all our questions and more. We saw a big lizard on the shore, the smalles owl in the world, baby dingos which were super cute, some monkeys, vipers curled on some branches and eagles.
There are good reasons to go with them: first, they're the only ones with access to a specific part of the mangrove swamp, second, they are ecologists, they do care about preserving the mangrove forests. Most of the other tour companies would feed the eagles with chicken skins as part of their tour package; chicken skins are not part of a normal diet for eagles, in fact they feed on snakes. According to Shuhada, the feeding show has affected the balance somewhat on the island, the eagles are now used to being thrown chicken at instead of hunting their food, and the snake population in increasing. For us that was reason enough to pick them, and it was time well spent on Langkawi.
