Chanced upon Santai Cafe which was located by the road in Kuala Teriang while on the way to Perdana Quay.
It had a cozy ambience and with tables inside laid out with white tablecloth and a brown overlay. Seats about 20pax inside and also another 20pax alfresco dining in two areas outside. A chandelier in the centre of the cafe provided a statement with warm white lighting providing the ambience. There is also a small lounge area where you can chill out with drinks and a selection of books and magazines for your reading pleasure.
The menu was a one-page menu with mostly western style fare of Beef Steak, Lamb Chops, Chicken Chop, Spaghetti Bolognaise, Fish & Chips, etc. If you are lucky you may be able to sample the special of the day which depends on what is available.
Fresh juices were served in miniature jugs and the steaks on a wooden platter/chopping board making it a novelty. The food was unpretentious and tasteful on every occasion that I have been there (4 times....which says a lot).
Service was provided by the owners Kuza & Luke and another female staff. Kuza was always the charming host, attentive & friendly. He suggested their signature dessert which was a twist to the Malaysian pisang goreng which were Banana Fritters topped with grated cheese and I must say that it was well worth ordering as it was lip-smacking!
Santai Cafe opens from 4pm-12mn daily (5pm-12mn on Friday & closed on Tuesday). Only down side was that the kitchen hood/exhaust was not strong enough so dining inside would also leave your clothes smelling of food ;-)
All in all Santai Cafe is one of the few places in Langkawi that makes dining a pleasure even with the limited menu offerings.
