I HONESTLY CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE GAVE THIS PLACE A POSITIVE REVIEW! This hostel was disgusting. The staff and the owner were rude-they ignored us many times, including times when we could actually see them and them us! The room stank, had no proper bathroom ceiling, the shower dripped cold. The room smelt of damp and was not clean at all and looked like it was on it's last legs. The owner merely grunted and did not say one nice word to us. We checked out on the same day it was so awful. We travel a lot and we have stayed in all sorts of places and this is the worst I've ever experienced. The owers seem to think that they can get around the bad standards by claiming this a place for backpackers-well I am one and this is far below any basic standard. I think they intend that someone would think 'Oh well it did say it was for backpackers so we'd better not moan.' Don't do it. There are nicer hotels on the same road and you can haggle in low season to a very cheap rate for a proper hotel room instead of this dump!

Best place for backpackers and budget travellers who are on extended stay. The rooms are decent, there is a common kitchen also and yes, there is this honest bar where you honestly pay for what you have used.

Zackry, the owner of this place is a nice man. Helpful and friendly. His assistant (forgot her name) is very friendly and helpful, she can guide you on the attractions and also help you to book the tours.

There are lots of backpackers and you can make a lots of friends in the common living cum dinning area.

The property is not on the beach but close to it.

To be honest I have no idea how some people can write a good review about this guest house. The place is simply a dingy mess. And I have been to enough guest houses in virtually every country in Asia to tell the difference between cosy/comfy and overpriced mess. No wonder they force you to pay for two nights upfront... that is always a bad sign!
We arrived in the evening after our flight had been diverted because of heavy monsoon rains, so we were in no mood to walk around looking for rooms. Assured by some rather good reviews we had a quick glance at the last available room and checked in. On closer inspection it turned out that the room was dingy, with hardly any daylight coming in and that the entire ceiling was dripping wet to the extend that our floor was flooded the next morning. As if the ongoing monsoon rains outside were not bad enough we also had them indoors!
Moreover the little bar area is an equally messy dark place with zero atmosphere so we ended up spending the entire next day in a coffeeshop rather than anywhere near our guest house. And the worst thing is that they charge super high prices for what they offer. I mean dark and wet rooms ok, but NOT if I am expected to pay RM60 for it!
To our surprise we found two excellent places within 5 minutes walk from Zackry. If you are on a real tight budget you can go to the Vistar Cenury Motel which has small clean bungalows set in a garden at RM45 per night. This place is right next to the Shamrock Bar. If you have a bit more cash or want a bigger brighter posher room you can go to the Tropical Resort a little bit further down the road. They have spacious bungalows for 90RM about 100m from the beach. This is where we ended up staying and it was absolutely wonderful.

Stayed 3 nights at Zackrys Guest House, having spent the past month being pampered in a 4*+ hotel - so was expecting quite a comedown - but was pleasantly surprised !!

Whilst rooms are basic, I stayed in a double air con bungalow with private en-suite - well worth the extra few quid.

Room was clean and bed linen changed daily, with towels etc provided. Don't make the mistake I did though - thinking the blankets were beach towels - otherwise you'll have nothing to keep you warm at night !

Good communal area, with internet, TV and a job load of DVDs. Plus kitchen with free tea and coffee (though the fridge does stink a bit!).

Staying at Zackrys was reminiscent of being a student again - surprising how quickly I readjusted to the basic lifestyle !

Word of advice - Langkawi is a small island so worth hiriing a moped - and v. safe as little if any traffic - all available through hostel.

Staff were hospitable and there was always plenty of people to talk to. Would recommend.

It was 8th Nov that we booked Zackry guest hse through Airasia website, but it turn out a total disasters. Supposing it is not Zackry to blame, because the low cost airline delay the flight for more then 3hour, and we were late for our check in. Right at the airport I called him and inform him that we are going to be late. He ensure us is it ok, the room was paid upon our booking via the website anyway. But as the flight keep delay one hour after another and with the lousy conduct of airasia, whom did even answer to all the angry passengers at the counter. Once the ETD was announce I inform Zackry immediately, just to ensure that he is there to check us in. He start sounded funny saying ok, my friend will have a room for you. I ask him what is that mean he just said oh nothing. Right we arrived at Langkawi Airport, Zackry turn off the phone and we can never reach him. We wasted the taxi fare to the guest house and he was missing in action, it make me a total fool and a stressful trip. We took another taxi to town and was charge double.

Well it felt like roped by Zackry .

With that price, I didn't expected much. The location is nice, if you wanna see how the people in resorts enjoy their vacation. Zacry is quite a way from ferry terminals in Kuah, but a nice spot to chill. Well, as a hostel it might have some loud guests, so don't expected quiet, peace and clean rooms. But it is fun and you meet nice people.
