Yes, it's true. A notice to wash your dishes and a couple of others, and some general rules in a A4 laminated booklet asking you not to eat in your room amongst others. Wish I'd heeded that first one; I ignored it a had an army of ants for company, but that's my bad.
The place is basic, and the kind of basic I was looking for and at a great price. I had thought I'd booked a dorm, but was very happy it was in fat a single fan room. It had a cabinet with a lock on it (you need your own lock) so I never bothered with the safes at reception, just as well there wasn't always someone there, and by that I mean everyone may be out! Didn't bother me, I made sure all odds and ends were tied up so I just left my key on reception. I stayed 9 days but paid for 10 in error, no probs getting the money back.
The bedding is changed every two days, but the cleaners offered most days I was there. There is free water next to reception to fill up your big bottle, and hot for noodles etc. Wifi was strong throughout my stay and I could have kissed them for that - my nanna died the week before so didn't want to go out and it was just the ticket. Basic shower area, never had to queue, and towel provided as well as toilet roll in the bathroom, oh, and shower gel in a dispenser on the wall of the shower.
On my first night the bar was closed since a local bar owner was going home and decided to donate all his stock. So that there (Bolton fan, eww!!) chap saved loads of us a mint, we were knocking back Bailey's and all sorts of other stuff for gratis. The hostel didn't pay for it, but they lost all income to their own bar/business which was very good of them.
Heard some whining about Sam when I read these reviews a month ago, all I can say he was polite and friendly with me and everyone else. Makes a great omelette too! Some people must be the kind to get hurt feelings over the slightest, unjustifiable infraction? Like, maybe he forgot to smile once and the guest needed to Skype home and cry into a Kleenex? Weird!
I had a great stop, and at RM35 for a fan room I thought it was great value.
The local area was boring as hell like, but beautiful beaches and a unbelievably cheap McDonald's a twenty minute walk away. Duty free Russian vodka (Stolichnaya) RM30 in a shop about ten minutes away, and a cheap laundry near that, too.
Swimming pool was drained whilst I was there and put in the duck pond - of which they seemed grateful. It's no, or was, just covered up but the season is nigh on over.
