“Jungle oasis on a shoestring”
Reviewed June 29, 2012

I stayed here for a couple of nights as a solo traveller- and bar Marc was the only person here. It was wonderful! Pondok Keladi is in a neat location; on edge of town surrounded by local's gardens and jungle. The only sounds are the frogs and the crickets.Theres beautiful beaches nearby.
The ensuite room was beautifully presented and clean- the details down to the keyring-are thoughtful. The free beers were welcomingly refreshing! The Kampong style communal areas are wonderful- but so is the little patio infront of each room. Theres loads of cds and good books.
Marc was more than welcoming, but also respsected my privacy- being the only guest in some places, hosts can be overberaring, The only down side I'd say was the "free/DIY food" Its a con; instant noodles or instant noodles with instant noodles, loads of eggs, no veggies.
I would love to go back.

We stayed at D and Marc's B&B for a week at the end of May. One word: Fantastic! We have never been to a friendlier and kinder run B&B before! The guys are so lovely and accommodating, they have even taken us to the local Laksa festival! Then one night we run out of wine when D just offered us one of his selection for free!
The B&B is very special in so that it was build in an area that used to be a forest, 1 minute away from the local main road that leads to the nearly located beach. You will find beautiful birds, butterflies, monkey's etc, all at your door step. Pure nature! Then you have the communal hang out area where you can read your book or have a chat with other travelers. We also really enjoyed the free eggs, bread, tea, coffee etc for breakfast. Just amazing. We would go back tomorrow if we had the time off work!

I was there for several days.. Believe me when i said, the rooms were beautiful, nice and clean. Each room has it's own shower with hot water system, the surrounding area is quiet and peaceful. If you are lucky during the day and if you are up and about at the Pondok Keladi rest area... You get to see a horn bill bird or two sitting on a tree branch.

The other plus bit about Pondok Keladi is that it is quietness. You really can get peace and quiet as it is tucked inside a hidden location. So really.. If anyone of you who wants to go Langkawi and is looking for an alternative place to stay... I would say Pondok Keladi. Do go there and give it a try. I really recommend it. I went there with my friends and i was astonished with Pondok Keladi when my friends brought me there.

Over the pat few years I must have stayed in at least half of the hotels and guesthouses in and around Pantai Cenang/Tengah, both good and damn awful!
Things have changed in town, and staying on the main strip isn't quite the idyllic retreat it once was, there's so much construction going on.
Earlier this year I stumbled on Pondok Keladi, a small guesthouse tucked away between the paddy fields and kampungs behind Pantai Tengah, and what was intended to be a few days turned into a three week stay - I guess I don't need to say much more.
It's about a 10 minute walk from the beach, and set in a huge and tranquil garden - possibly the most peaceful accommodation in town. The rooms are terraced, and all face the garden, the kitchen, and sala area, which is an open air living and dining area, and a great place to relax - and work (as I did, hooked up to the free wifi).
The kitchen is well equipped and stocked, with free-flow coffee and tea, as well as breakfast essentials - it's an ideal place to retreat to when you're travelled or "peopled" out, and the owners are also very friendly and helpful, great little place, especially for the price.

After a week's holiday in KL it was great to arrive on the equanaminous island of Lankawi. Situated only a 20 minutes drive from the airport Pondkok Keladi and it's private house (just 10 mins walk away) were just what the relaxation police ordered. I opted to stay at the guest house for a week and then move into the private house for a week.

The guest house of several bedrooms is set in a wonderful tropical garden of unrivalled flora and fauna. It is possible to see Hornbills in the back garden, harmless monkeys howl from the tree canopies while monitor lizards help themselves to bananas. Reconciling this with the friendliness and unrivaled hospitality of the proprietor, Rosidi - he even provides free eggs and noodles you are guaranteed to have a great stay.. He lent me one of his cycles so I could cycle past the local grazing buffalos - wonderful experience!

My next stop was their private house (Pondok Keladi 2) at Pantai Tenga. The first thing I liked about this house was the location. From here you can easily walk to 2 wonderful beaches and many great local and international restaurants. The house was clean and hot water was a bonus as many houses there do not have this luxury. The sofa was comfortable and over all it was clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: All equally good but I would prefer a double as I was solo

We did not make it to Pondok Keladi, but the owners also offer a 2 bedroom house at Pentai Tengah (they call it Pondok Keladi 2 on their website). It is very small, very hot (a/c in only one bedroom), dark, and dingy. At 200 RM/night, you can do a lot better. There is actually quite a bit they could do with the space, but it is pretty terrible as it is. Not someplace you want to hang your hat while you're on vacation...

Room Tip: Go someplace else. If you are going to go to Pentai Tengah, there are plenty of better places on the...

The only regret I have after staying at Pondok is to leave...Rosidi and Marc have made my stay so welcoming with their undisputed hospitality. Love my room, the location, the common kitchen and Balai. Befriended and partied with some of its guests. The place is kept spotless. Good Wifi service too. Will definitely be back. And good luck on the refit.
