“Great Beach, Popular Hotel - worth 3 1/2 stars”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

I've stayed here twice now, having been to Langkawi 3 times in total. My most recent visit was late 2013 (and yes, I'm slow to write reviews). I chose this hotel the first time for the location, the second time I chose it for two reasons - the beach, and the lack of high rise buildings. Call me fussy, but when staying beachside, I enjoy my own villa.

There's a few things to know - it's sprawling, and because of this, you don't get wifi in the rooms. It also means that it can take a while for the maids to get to your room for daily service. But this comes with pluses too - I was happy to be away from the main pool area, having a seaview villa near the salt water pool. My only snag with service was getting a pool towel (the hut wasn't staffed, and they didn't leave towels out. Reception told me to go and open it up and help myself, which felt a little odd, but it wasn't a huge issue).

Food is good - both room service and in restaurant, but if you go for a five minute walk you will get a lot of options at inexpensive prices. It's also a plus - you can get what you need, or look into the nearby variety. Breakfast buffets were busy, and at times I found someone had taken my seat when I went to get food, but the hotel was at 100% occupancy when I last stayed.

Beach is wonderful - warm clear water. On days that the water wasn't safe to swim in, the salt water pool was great (and most kids were at the main pool, so this was a quiet option). I also loved the outside shower.

Room Tip: Don't worry too much about paying for sea view or sea front rooms, all rooms are close to the be...

I spend 6 nights in this hotel with my Mother and we liked everything about this hotel - excellent location, extremely friendly and helpful staff, beautiful beach, spacious and modern room.
It was a little problem with a room cleaning. Twice we came back from the beach after 4 PM and room wasn't still make up. When it happened first time, it was a lot of apologies from staff but in one day it happened again....
But everything else was just great and We will come back again! We want to thank management and staff for the grate job!

Stayed 1 night a few days ago. Must say that the reception service is poor. (maybe to locals-double standard is frequently practice in local hotels). Have to wait for almost 10 minutes to check-in when there is no guest at that time. No receptionist except for a lady busy counting money and ask me to wait until I requested to check-in after 10 minutes of waiting. Porter did not bother to bring along a trolley until being asked. When we finally reach our room a pile of dirty laundry at our porch and was clear almost an hour later. Room is quite spacious and clean. But will not give it a second chance.

This hotel almost deserve a 5 star review due to their friendly customer service and staff minus the hotel hardware and facilities.

Like our Malaysian friends said, they have land, people and its own kinda Malaysian charm but they just simply did not spend enough on maintenance and up-keeping of the property. The wear and tear of the room and especially bathroom is somewhat disappointing. Not that the staff did not do cleaning but the stain and almost going-to-break stuff are really beyond them. Many have reviewed about the rooms and we shall not said much.

The salt water pool is just a block from where we stayed in Room 132. The pool is great .. though it supposedly to be salted but it is really not so salty. And its regular size and no kids playground means lesser people.

The only "complain" we had is that the weather is really too hot to walk in the day or even evening, Taxi is readily available so have to rely on the staff to call for you. However, if the weather is slightly cooler then it is perfectly walk-able to restaurants and shopping in the adjacent street Pantai Cenang where all the action are.

We just came back after 3 nights stay in this resort ... manage your expectation and we will have a great time.

We stayed at the Frangipani Resort for two nights and had a lovely time. Checking in and out were straightforward, and throughout our stay the staff were top-notch, friendly and very helpful.

The location of the resort is fantastic, just take a look at our photos looking out over the beach from the pool area. The resort's restaurant is immediately adjacent to where these photos were taken, so this is your view as you're having your meal or drinks! If you would prefer to eat elsewhere, it's a short walk to Pantai Tengah where there are numerous and varied choices. From our point of view, the breakfast (which was included with the room) was good, with a diverse selection of dishes. The chicken and avocado salad my partner had for lunch one day was not good value.

We went for a garden view villa, number 102. There are some that look right over the beach but unsurprisingly there's a premium for this!

The room itself, unfortunately, was a little disappointing. While the bed was comfortable and a good size, and we really liked the outside shower, the fridge did not seem to be working quite right - the bottles of water inside froze, and the doors of the cabinet it was inside did not close properly. Worse, the bath looked shabby and dirty, as though it had not been cleaned in some time (see photo).

All things considered, I'd recommend this resort, given the stunning location and excellent service during our stay. But for a 5/5 to be deserved, the rooms need considerably more attention.

Room Tip: If you prefer to bathe rather than showering, consider staying elsewhere

this review is written on my last afternoon here at the resort, after a comfortable 10 day stay. room #104 i occupied, and i found the room to be of a good size with some comfy beds in it. The blackout curtains are a great idea to ensure that the room is indeed nice and dark. The outside shower is surprisingly bug free. However a little remark on the room ought to be given as well, the hand rail above the bath is loose. Lets say I was an individual who preferred taking a bath instead of a shower than that hand rail is an accident waiting to happen. Also i do believe that the room would benefit from a lick of paint.
The resort is situated on the beach, and also has 2 pools. The issue of reserving sunbeds i believe has already been mentioned but what i also wanted to mention is the state that some sunloungers are in.Please do have them fixed,as there alrady not enough of them as it is. The eco friendliness of the resort is a plus, however could the recycling bins by the pool not be dressed up better? It looks a bit off shall we say.
The staff are lovely and where possible will want to help you,am thinking in particular of the ladies at the egg cooking station during breakfast. Got my eggs cooked just the way i want them.

We stayed at The Frangipani Resort for 6 nights and loved it. Location was great, right on the beach and within easy walking distance to the main street of Pantai Cenang. Staff at the hotel were all very polite and helpful. The outside showers in the villas are a nice touch. Some reviews say it is a bit dated, which it may be, but if you want better, pay a higher price and stay somewhere else. I thought it was good value for money. I would recommend it to anyone
