“An incredible amount of Malaysian handicraft set in a quiet cool building”
Reviewed February 14, 2012

When you drive up to this attraction, you will be guided to the ample parking space, situated on a low incline. Then you step down to the "Kompleks Kraf" building and you will enter in a succession of halls, where craftspeople will show and recommend their products. There is an abundance of local clothes, t-shirts, jewelry, tin craft, batiks; etc. When you are lucky batik painting will be demonstrated. When on Langkawi we will rent a car for one or more days, to make a tour of the island. We never skip the "Kompleks Kraf" and cannot resist buying some piece of beautifully crafted jewelry. To be recommended.

“Should spend an afternoon there”
Reviewed June 18, 2011

This is a one stop shop for all things craft in Langkawi.

There is a glass blowing display at the back though not as famous as the ones in Murano, Venice. But the technque is the same but less commercialized, which is good and bad. There is not explanation of the techniques(as in the Murano glass), but less pressure to buy the glassworks.

Next door is a small batik shop, which again is nice to see but really no one to explain how batik is made. The better one is Atma alam which has a guide to explain.

In the main craft building, there is a museum, as well as shops selling crafts. We got beautiful batik painting of the old kampung/village scenary and also a batik shirt for myself.

The highlight is the kids batik painting. There is a shop that does this. Turn left as you enter the main building it is on the left side, the last of the first set of shops there.

The ladies there do not speak much English, but they are very patient with my kids, and they each loved their experience. I must say it is only the painting and not the entire batik printing process, whic includes the use of hot wax, but it ws memorable nonetheless. Plus it is more ecnomical there than doing it at the hotel, but I thin the hotel stff would have better command of English.

“Nice place to go on a rainy day”
Reviewed October 28, 2009

I was there for a stopover as it was raning heavily in the afternoon.Decided to stop driving and park at Langkawi craft complex. It was a nice place with lots of handicrafts and items on display. Some items are freaking expensive e.g the chiffon silk clothes...(dont buy this as they do not pack exclusively and worth RM350 above)...do buy the songket pouches and mengkuang boxes....Do drop by at the accessories shop run by one Chinese lady who sells nice and unique accessories and would give you great discounts.Try not to go to the shop opposite hers who is a run by a malay lady who would smirked at you if you decide not to buy....
