In Malaysia trip, we planned to visit KL & Langkawi to celebrate our anniversary in 2013.This time we were in the mood of doing something adventurous. So we decided to opt for scuba diving, snorkeling & mangrove forest tour.

We learned that there was no need to know swimming for introductory divers as an instructor would be provided for each person under deep sea. Believe me it was an awesome experience. We both were a little tensed during the mini training session. But once we proceed to explore the under water world, we felt "yes this is called true heaven". We went separately with our guide & in a few seconds our fear was gone.

We took a package tour to do all adventurous activities. In the morning Bus came & took us from our resort to Eagle square from where the actual trip was started. It took almost an hour or a little more to reach Pulau Payar Marine Park. Instructor gave us necessary information & taught us the signal to communicate under water. We dressed ourselves with life jackets, Oxygen cylinders, masks etc. It was 15-20 min diving to view the under water creatures. After that they took us to the beach point where they provided packed lunch. Post lunch we did snorkeling for the 2 hours. I was so excited to see the cute colorful fishes all around me. But one thing I would like like to share that after doing scuba activity, snorkeling would not be that exciting...though its a personal feeling & may vary person to person. On the way back to eagle square one person came & handed over two certificates for our introductory diviing..& my expression was "WOWWW!!!".

You do not need to carry foods as lunch & drinks served at the beach area. Wash room facility is available in the jetty & in the beach & is good. You can book this trip from airport itself as many agents are waiting there with planners, negotiate for a better price. We have booked this trip in advance as we didn't had much time. It will take your full day, so plan accordingly for other sites. They will drop you at your hotel after completion of the trip.

We did a day-trip to Pulau Payar from Penang. Boat ride from Georgetown was very choppy. Most people around us ended up being sick (but that could have been the conditions on the day - not sure). Once we got to the platform we came to the realization that the operator (Langkawi Coral) was very, let's call it, efficient. There must have been 100+ people on that platform which made it quite crowded (and a bit messy over lunch). Bathroom facilities were quite 'spartan'.

However - once we got in the water for snorkeling all those worries quickly disappeared. An amazing array of fish and coral to watch and we spent hours just swimming around snorkeling with the kids. If you've snorkeled before in Thailand, Australia or other nice places you may not be that impressed but for anyone beginner - this was pretty cool.

There is also a nice beach you can swim to. Water was very warm and comfortable.

Snorkeling was amazing! There were fish everywhere and we swam with 7 baby sharks and saw one larger shark, eeek! The beach was somewhat disappointing and quite small. There wasn't much space on the beach to lay out and relax, it was way too crowded and had a lot of trash. I personally wouldn't pay to do this tour again despite all the fish we saw while snorkeling. Bathrooms there were disgusting and didn't even have running water!

We took the Coral Island tour and paid 90 ringit per person. Once we boarded the boat we literally sat there for ONE hour just waiting to leave. They really know how to waste our time which was really frustrating. They also charge you 20 ringit for "renting lockers" which are equivalent to plastic bins.

Was rather disappointed with the place as it is basically a place strictly for snorkeling as I was expecting it to be a place to be more educational since it is named as Marine Park. But it has rather clear and nice water where you can see lots of fishes as well as a few black tip fin shark swimming around. You didn't have to swim far to be able to see all those as most fishes do swim at even your calf/ knee level.

The worst part would probably be their toilet where the taps do not have water but there's big tubs filled with water (which we believe should be clean), for you to clean yourself up after snorkeling and washing hands.
