Day Trip Snorkelling to Payar Island Marine Park from Langkawi
Reviewed June 13, 2013

I just the day tour near my Hotel together with Island Hopping at a very reasonably price. They pickup at around 8:30am, and return to hotel around 5:00pm. The beach was very beautiful. Many fish and baby shark swum at the beach. Water was very clean. Box of lunch was offered but the food was just okay. I paid extra to other place for snorkeling but the water was not clear at there and got sting by jelly fish... too bad... Only sea water at the bathroom at the beach so I decided no bath until I returned to hotel. Overall was really great! Good to go for snorkeling at Marine Park although I go sting by jelly fish~~ :)

Everything is great, except the extremely dirty toilet located on the island. I came to the island for diving, so the toilet isn't a big deal for me, however for my friends, this is a killer shot. I believe diving here is great, even though during my dive, visibility is close to 2 meters, strong currents, couldn't really see much. I have my Gopro hero 3 with me during my dive, but it seem it was really unfortunate. Expect to see some black tip sharks from 1 meter baby to 2 meters adult. I still give a good rating, for these awesomely nice beach side and sharks fun, I will definitely go there again one day... Hope they do something about the toilet though.

The site was beautiful. You could see fishes from the deck itself. They have facilities to dive. Please note these are two platforms there. One company gives facilities such as lunch, Snorkelling gears, Optional Diving facility, Trip from Langkawi in AC jetty, no fresh water etc. there is another company which is costlier, they have a facility of Glass Bottom Boat, underwater see through tunnel , fresh water facility apart from what the other companies provide. It is very good for first timers for snorkelling / Diving etc. I recommend this place to be visited.

Leaving Kuah jetty at 9am on a big ferry, they transfer you to the marine park on a small boat near the beach. 15 minutes of short briefing and there you go do anything you like until lunch time around 12pm. If this is your first time, they will teach you how to snorkel. Life jacket and snorkel mask provided.

It's just a small island and all facilities are in the same area. Only a beach, a toilet, a place for eating and briefing and a small first aid station. The toilet use sea water because it's the marine park and no fresh water is allowed except for drinking and first aid purpose.

The attraction here is SHARK! Walk a few meter from the beach the baby shark will swim together with you. If you can swim, you can snorkel further out to the sea. They put a barrier to tell you how far you can go.

After your lunch, you can continue swimming, snorkeling until around 2pm they will call you up and gather at a point. This is the great time where the staff will go out to the sea with fishes(blood) to attract the big shark. This shark feeding session is only for photography purposes, no tourist allowed to go into water at this time. The shark is as big as 2 meter long or some even bigger and they come very close to you for the food.

Water here is shallow so do not jump or dive when swimming or you will get yourself hurt.
