“Stay away”

You spend an hour in choppy seas only to arrive at a small polluted beach. Hundreds of tourists are crammed into small swimming area where you must snorkel within the bouys. Litter, poor coral and heavily commercial. A very unpleasant tourist trap. If you must go, don't go with East Marine divers. They are dishonest about what you will see and what is involved. They also charged silly amounts of money for things they promised were free. Worst day of holiday.

“Snorkeling only with East Marine Divers”
Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

It was a pleasure to snorkel at Pulau Payar. It was not to crowded and there were many fish, like nemos, barracudas and jet fish even little sharks and turtles. Don't go with coral or the other company: they use a platform and its very crowded. East Marine is always the first company there - you have at least 45 minutes where you snorkel together with max 35 persons.

“pulau payar snorkelling”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

water was crystal clear, lots of colourful fish, but the corals are mostly dead. i hate that people are stepping on them, despite warnings not to do so.

the place can get very crowded, especially the area close to the beach. it's better to go to the other side of the jetty, where the sharks prefer to hang out. it's less crowded, and the area is less trampled. the sharks are mostly small, so no worries ;)

“It Can be better”
Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

Make a diving with seatrek. It took us about 2 hrs from Penang to pulau payar. We arrived at the floating platform seems belongs to Langkawi Coral. We were direct to a disengaged area (not with the crowd) but annisolated area without any one attending us for about 10-15 minutes. Until someone use a boat to transfer us to east marine dive boat. After reach the dive boat we actually get our item and separate into different category for the diving.
The first dive was al coral garden. Visibility is estreamly poor only 2-3 meters. Can't really enjoy the dive once u miss your DM hardly to find back ur DM due poor visibility.
Second dive a bit better.

CHECK THE VISIBILITY BEFORE U GO!!!

Was a great day, but not as good diving as Australia. swimming with sharks was very cool, but would not recomend taking kids there , too risky for me.
