“Coral Island, Langkawi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

We have good time snorkeling at Pulau Payar. Although it is not as beautiful as I thought and is not as attractive compare to Pulau Redang or Pulau Perhentian. I think it is a good experience for young children. Few things must be careful when visiting, 1st the shark will bite, so keep a good distance. I didn't know until I came back and it was happen to my friend. Bit by baby shark without major injury. 2nd, don't feed the fish when there are people around the sea. It will trigger the shark to attack them. There is room to improve for the food serving.
I am very happy with the leader of the team, they really take care of our safety. My son is not a good swimmer, one of the team member took good care of him, he even caught some sea creatures and showed it to him. When his goggles loosen, he will stop and help him.
According to the team leader, they are developing the island and in the next few years, we may visit inside the island instead of near the beach only. We will visit Coral Island again.

Snockling is very good, but it is not big area for swiming. East Marine is hospitality and good service, stuff is well managed, it is worth to try for it. Anyway, it is fantastic trip.

“dirty and disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2012

i regretted not doing research prior to booking the snorkeling tour, and wasted 1 day of my days in langkawi, when i could have been doing other activities.

the beach was dirty during the low tide, and lots of trash could been seen floating in the water, which was quite disgusting. the water became somewhat cleaner after lunch, when the tide was high. i wonder where the trash went. facilities (shower rooms, benches) were minimally maintained.
water clarity was not fantastic, corals were dying or dead, and the variety of marine creatures was also limited. the only good thing about the beach is being able to see the black-tip sharks up close. we had packed lunch at the island with the tour operator. the food was cold and mediocre.

don't expect much, especially if you have been to the other side of peninsular malaysia. the snorkeling at redang, perhentian and tioman etc easily beats this beach, hands down.

“Swimming with the fish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

This trip took about 45 minutes from the port at Langkawi abourd a high speed catamaran. Snorkels and scuba equipment were provided, as was a very acceptable buffet lunch. The trip worked out at around £60 each (300 MR).
The sight of the carals and the fish swimming so close is awesome to see. The water is very clear, and it can be easy to lose oneself in the experience. The one downside for me was that I did not protect the tops of my legs at the back, forgetting that when snorkelling, yuour backside is higher out of the water, with the consequence that it was rather painful sitting down for a few days due to sunburn! Next time, I'll wear cycle shorts over my cossie.
I particularly liked the fact that after lunch we were transported to a different part of the park, where we were able to snorkle among little sharks as well as a miriad of brightly coloured coral and fish species.
We also got to experience a short trip in a glass bottomed boat to view more fragile coral.
All in all, a very enjoyable, worthwhile trip

Water clarity: The water is not clear at all, vision range underwater is not more than 1 meter.

The Corals: almost all dead and broken

The fish variety: not much variety, and not much quantity unless you bring bread with you.

The snorkeling spots: very congested and it's very far, takes a long time to reach pulau payar.

Summary: if you're in malaysia on a tour, and langkawi is the only possible snorkeling place that you're going to, then go for it.. BUT, i highly recommend one of the following places:
1- Redang
2- Perhantian
3- Mamutek island in Kota Kinabalu Sabah
