“Nice Quiet hotel, but overpriced”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Positives first: Nice rooms, clean and well maintained common area, Sit-out area is good

Negatives: Location (DONT select this if you dont plan to rent a car), Slow room service, no nearby eating options, small pool, Not so good if you look at value for money.

We stayed here for 3 nights September 2013. It is a very short taxi ride from the airport and first impressions are that it is a bit in the middle of nowhere. Hotel staff were welcoming and helpful and our room was pool facing. Spotlessly clean with kettle and large fridge. Complimentary water, tea & coffee and reasonable mini bar prices. Room service is offered by way of a take-away menu from The Red Tomato, we used this on our last evening and our food arrived quickly, still hot and was excellent. It is a 15-20 minute walk into town, a tip if you want to get to the beach more quickly is to take the small lane facing the end of the road you walk towards the town. From there you can walk along the beach to the centre which is more pleasant than the main road. We were happy to walk to and from the hotel during daylight though after dark I preferred to take a taxi from outside Meritus, this was MR8 (about £1.60). We took a taxi to the cable car which was worthwhile, though pick a clear day. We also did a boat trip from the AB Motel which visited two islands and some eagle feeding. If you want to see the birds feeding the morning is the best time to go. All in all an enjoyable stay and would definitely recommend Langkawi and Chantique with the same reservations about breakfast which have been covered in previous reviews.

Room Tip: We enjoyed our pool facing room but all looked good.

We stayed 4 nights in a new quiet unit.
Room very clean and comfortable beside pool and garden.
It is about 3 km from town, and you really need a car to get around the island- about 3 hour drive through lush tropical hills and past several small beaches- only about $24/day for small car at airport.
when ordering breakfast, ask for hot eggs, hot toast otherwise they are cold.
best beaches cedang outside meritus resort, 300 m to right of main touristy ceding area, tanjong rua 30 minutes away.

Let's start with the PROs:
Clean rooms
Lovely pool area
Well maintained gardens
Nice veranda in front of all rooms
Pool towels and umbrellas included
Some of the front desk ladies were really nice
Fairly quiet (bar some road noise)
Didn't hear noise from other rooms (but they might have been empty)

Location is in middle of nowhere, if taxi driver doesn't know just tell them 'Laman padi' (rice museum) then direct them down the road. Bit of a trek to main road, convenience store and beach. Not really THAT far but no footpath, no lights and quite hot in middle of the day.
Breakfast was filling BUT you never got what you asked for. Continental should have pastries right? Nope, no pastries but cooked breakfast got pastries. You never got quite what was on the list (three slices of bread? only on the first day). Even if you ordered the same thing you never got the same thing twice in a row. If you put in a special request you may or may not get it. Fake slices of cheese with proper bread and good butter. Last day got a massive bunch of rambutans which would have lasted a week and caused lots of ants to crawl onto the table. Thought it was all rather strange.

Rooms weren't as large as I expected, bathroom was sizeable but no shower curtain so the water went everywhere. Beds a touch hard (typical of Asia).

Serious CONs:
No restaurant and practically nothing to eat nearby. If you order 'room service' this is from a restaurant that had tasty enough food but was VERY VERY expensive. Also they didn't do lunch before 1.30pm?? (May have been a Ramadam restriction.) So it was a pain to find food to eat. (You can buy some fruit from a stall just down the road, 1.50RM for a kg of rambutans mmmm there is also a small shack which a not very cold fridge selling ice creams)
Nice outdoor furniture to lounge on but only the ones around the pool actually had comfy cushions to sit on, the rest were like sitting on baskets.
Last and MOST important con, sometimes they call in taxis that try to rip you off. In Langkawi taxis operate on a fixed fare system from point to point so you don't haggle, and don't have to ask for meters to be turned on. It is quite well known how much you pay from point to point and what you pay in one direction is the same as you pay in another direction. So to be blatently ripped off at reception when they quote you a more expensive fare, then get their special friends to come in with their very dirty cars and ask you for more money when you get out even though you clearly know how much you should pay was taking the piss I feel. It was mainly one man who did it, the ladies were generally quite helpful and nice so PLEASE BE AWARE!

Would I recommend this place? If you are fully aware of the above and can handle it then sure! But wait... I do not think the price was quite worth it. It is hard to find a mid priced decent option (you've got super dirty cheap and super over the top expensive) here but I feel they did charge about AUD$20 too much for what we got. I would only go back really if the prices were more reasonable considering the disadvantages.

Room Tip: Some rooms near the pool can hear more 'pool' noises. My room faced garden away from pool an...

Admittedly off season, we arrived to a quiet resort with no neighbours for this 6 night stay. Several couples and a family came and went during this time, but it was essentially a quiet resort.

The room was clean, spacious, adequately equipped - the only downside was it lacked atmosphere, which could be easily remedied with a side lamp by the bed and some more pictures (but this is just a suggestion and superficial obviously). The pool was clean and accessible. The gardens well-maintained and homely. The staff was polite, friendly and well-presented. I cannot fault the place. My boyfriend was very sick one night and they were very helpful at 3am and the next day. 24 hours of heavy storms gave us the opportunity to become addicted to Boggle which was at reception!

The location was perfect - we could walk into town in ten minutes or zip down on the scooter. There was a local laundry only ten minutes away too.

All in all it was a great experience.

Room Tip: The rooms further away from the main reception are better

We came to this resort and were amazed how beautiful and quiet it is! The reception greeted us with a smile and escorted to the room. To be honest this hotel is such a value for money!! and it gives all the necessary things - fre wifi, shuttle to the beach, salt water pool etc. Not too far from beach and at the same time in a very quiet place. I will definitely stay in again

I have just arrived at this place today. There were many nice reviews before i booked but, nonetheless, i had to cancel my long term stay due to some recent bad reviews.
I would like to share that this place is extremely chic, secluded, classy and amazing. I do not agree with the negative reviews anymore, since i have experienced otherwise. Please do not hesitate to book this place and experience a totally different feeling unlike the abc motels on pentai cenang. It has a small pool which is laudable and the rooms are very clean. I mean Very! It is just a little off, location wise, there is nothing much nearby. However, that is complimented by other factors.
I would love to come back again anytime and so is my recommendation for you guys.

You'll have a good stay!
