Went to Jala Restaurant with my mother and Brother an evening in April 2014. The best thing I ever did... The food was JUST excellent and the atmosphere gave the last mile to perfectionism... Have been to a lot of restaurants around the World, but the location and the moode at this place is undescribable. LOVE IT!!! Try to sit dining in a luxorious restaurant with your feet burried in the warm Datai Bay beach-sand. HEAVEN ON EARTH... :)

My regards to the Chef and the staff at Jala. An unforgetable evening...

Dear Heine K,

Thank you for reviewing us here on Trip Advisor. It is always a pleasure to read that our guests enjoyed the experiences they had in Jala restaurant. We value all the feedback we can get to grow better and stronger, so we can deliver even better experiences in the future.

I am happy to hear that you loved the ambience in Jala Restaurant. We have the luxury of having the 9th best beach in the world, by National Geographic, right at the steps of Jala, which of course makes a great impact. The view of the Andaman Sea as you are enjoying your dinner in Jala with your feet buried in the sand is a delightful experience that we are happy to be able to provide. And having our 10 million-year-old rainforest at the other side of Jala, there are plenty of opportunities for spotting wildlife when you are dining, which enriches your experience of being in a remote paradise with gastronomic treats.

We are likewise happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your culinary experience in Jala Restaurant. We have worked hard to develop a menu which have both Malaysian and Scandinavian influences and utilizes the local community to source produce and even makes use of some of the ingredients that we can find in the historic rainforest that surrounds The Andaman.

I will pass your valuable feedback to our Jala team, which I am sure will motivate them and inspire them to reach even higher in developing our gastronomical expertise, so we can create even more personalised experiences in the future.

Once again thank you for your kind feedback, and we hope to see you and your family once again here at The Andaman, for more exceptional indigenous experiences.

Culinary regards,
Chef Rene

We stayed in Andaman Langkawi and had dinner at Jala Restaurant. Basically, the menu focus on Seafood, and also catch of the day.

The ambience is lovely, warm and best if you are on bare foot to feel the softness and coolness of the sand.

The dishes are simply delicious, very fresh seafood, and the service is great too!

The beautiful sunset on the Andaman Sea provides the lovely setting for dinner, this restaurant is an attractive draw for many.

We love it! Cheers!

Dear The-SCH-World-Travel,

First of all thank you for reviewing Jala Restaurant here on Trip Advisor. It always gives us great pleasure to share this kind of feedback with our dedicated and enthusiastic teamf. It truly motivates them to hear that their gastronomic effort is appreciated and drives their energy to preform even better in the future.

We love that you loved the sand floor in Jala. It was one of our keystones for giving an experience of dining on the 9th best beach in the world. The comfort of digging your feet into the sand while you enjoy the fresh catch of the day was a very important experience for us to provide. And offering a shoe concierge where you can have your footwear stored while you are dining, seemed only natural for us, so our guests can enjoy their gastronomic experience while being barefoot.

The freshness of the seafood is something we take great pride in. We knew from the beginning of Jala Restaurant that we needed a good connection with the local community and the local fishermen to provide the freshest seafood possible. It has been a great cooperation and being able to get the high quality that the fishermen delivers only makes it easier to deliver equally high dining experiences to our guests.

The sunset from Jala Restaurant is truly magical, as you have a perfect view of the setting sun on the horizon of the Andaman Sea during these few months. So by making a reservation at seven or earlier you get an additional experience in Jala.

Hopefully we see you again here at The Andaman and Jala Restaurant, so we can give you some more memorable moments from the wonderful island of Langkawi.

Chef Rene

We ate at Jala four times during our stay at the Andaman due to the amazing food, service, views and atmosphere.
Between my husband and I we were able to experience a great variety of the different dishes on the menu including the fresh seafood selection ( which we had seen the local fishermen bring ashore that afternoon) that Chef Rene took so much time to carefully advise which cooking method and sauces would suit each fish so my husband could make his selection. Every dish was beautiful, from the beautiful dips, "dirt" and breads through to the stunning and delicious desserts, but we did have our favourites....for me the baby barramundi and for my husband the red snapper and scallops.
The staff were all fantastic, but special mention to the lovely lady at the door (Faziya?) who I am embarrassed to say knew our names after our second visit and I am not sure of the spelling of her name after four visits, but she always had a special table waiting for us and the biggest friendliest smile as she welcomed us .Also to Chef Rene not only for assisting us in our choices but chatting to us after our meal, Kamal and to all the wonderful waiters thank you.
Taking our thongs off and having our feet in the sand while watching the amazing sunsets that Data Bay put on for us was the icing on the cake.

Dear Robynwau,

We very much appreciate all the feedback we can get to grow stronger and better, so thank you for taking the time to review Jala Restaurant here on Trip Advisor.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed every stay and gastronomic experience that you had in Jala Restaurant.

We always encourage guests to joins us for the fisherman experience, and love the interaction that we are able to get when talking about the seafood. It is very important for us to openly show our guests what we are doing, and explain about the seafood and the sustainable fishing that we try to inspire here on Langkawi.

It is equally important that we are there to guide the guests at the seafood display when they arrive at Jala Restaurant to ensure that we meet their expectations, and it is a wonderful way to connect to our guests on a more personal level and listen to their needs and experiences.

Both the barramundi and the red mullet and scallop are two of our classic dishes that we had to keep on our menu since we started. These dishes are a good example of the delightful results we got from combining the Malaysian and Danish cuisine, so we are very grateful to hear that you enjoyed those dishes as your personal favourites.

There absolutely is a magical atmosphere in Jala with the view of the beach and this unique space between historical rainforest and astonishing Andaman Sea. We are also very proud and aware of the nature surrounding us and want to showcase it in its most natural way without disturbing the wildlife connected to it.

The sand floor was something that we had to bring into Jala and let it be a part of the experiences of the restaurant. It’s a wonderful feeling digging your toes into the sand while enjoying your gastronomic selections.

We really appreciate your positive feedback here on Trip Advisor and hope that Mr. and Ms. Wallace will be back to visit us again, so we can give you another memorable moment in Jala Restaurant

Culinary regards,
Chef Rene

This restaurant is a true dining delight, and despite the fact that I don't eat seafood, this did not stop me from enjoying the service and experience of dining at Jala Restaurant.

Eating at Jala is not just about the food, but the overall dining experience.

To begin with, service was unbelievably attentive. The staff make you feel like you're the only customer around! When I initially made the booking I enquired as to whether there were food options for people who did not eat seafood. At that point in time I thought Jala exclusively served seafood. The staff member who took the booking said that there were things on the menu for me, so I went ahead with the booking.

When we turned up the next day, we handed our thongs over as the restaurant floor is sand. The restaurant is undercover but open right on the beach! It was such a care free and lovely feeling. The view of the beach is splendid but don't forget your mosquito repellant!

As we were seated, one of the waitstaff actually handed me an ala carte menu and said 'I believe there is someone at the table that doesn't eat seafood?' When I mentioned that it was me, he kindly pointed out the non sea food options before letting us decide.

Jala restaurant actually has an uncooked seafood buffet display at the front, where the seafood lovers can choose their fish/lobster/prawns etc, before discussing how they would like it cooked and served with the sous chef who is manning the area. My husband choose this option whilst I ordered off the menu. When you choose your seafood, you also get to choose a number of accompaniments. The chef was more than pleased to make recommendations.

The food was fantastic and the seafood fresh.

At some point during the evening the duty manager introduced himself to welcome us to the restaurant, as well as to invite us to provide any feed back.

The Andaman should take pride in their staff who made such a wonderful impression. At one point in the evening a restaurant staff member grabbed another light/candle to bring it over as it was getting dark so we could see better.

Reception and concierge were friendly and most helpful in directing us to the restaurant when we first arrived, and then helping us to organise a cab upon leaving. The hotel driver who drove us home was pleasant, polite and friendly. I believe his name was Ahman/Ahmed.

The restaurant even has an area for you to wash the sand from your feet as you leave.

The only drawbacks is that the Andaman is quite remote and the cabs will charge about 70RM from Cenang Beach - although I think its remoteness only adds to the wonderfully secluded atmosphere - no traffic, no hawkers, no buzzing from water sports or crowds!

The other 'draw back' is obviously the fact that this is a fine dining restaurant and they charge accordingly.

I would recommend the Jala experience to anyone!

Dear Sue C,

Thank you for your very valued feedback here on Trip Advisor. It is always a pleasure to get detailed feedback that we can learn and grow from whether it positive or constructive feedback.

We are very pleased to learn that you enjoyed your entire experience here in Jala Restaurant. Though we are a dedicated seafood restaurant, we also have selections for those who do not enjoy seafood as much, so we are happy that you decided to venture to The Andaman to let Jala provide you with gastronomical experiences. Of course we are specialised in seafood and love to guide our guests through the various options from the daily seafood display and our recommended preparations for each individual seafood.

The fish we provide is caught by local fishermen that work exclusively for Jala, and provide the high quality and fish according to the sustainable guidelines that we have discussed with them to ensure a healthy marine life for future generations to explore. The à la carte menu is more of a marriage between the Malay and Danish cuisine and offers the culinary highlights from both kitchens. Here we have both non-seafood and vegetarian options as well for our guests who are interested in trying those alternatives.

The open restaurant concept with the sand floor was something that we knew right from the start, was an element that we absolutely needed to provide for our guests, being as we are very lucky that the folks at National Geographic list Datai Bay as 9th best beach in the world. We wanted our guests to have the experience of dining on the beach with the view over the Andaman Sea. Being in a 10 mill year old rainforest nature follows in all ways, so in certain seasons we do have some mosquitos visiting Jala, but we are prepared with mosquito repellent here in Jala for those who need it.

We are more than happy to hear your comments on our attentive and dedicated waiters and waitresses in Jala. We have done specialised trainings here in Jala to ensure that we reach the expected levels of service and give the memorable moments to our discerning guests.

From arrival to departure we are happy to hear that we met all your expectations and were able to give you a memorable evening with gastronomic delight.

We hope to see you soon in the near future for an equal experience.

Culinary regards,
Chef Rene

Dear Aurelie75008,

Thank you for reviewing Jala Restaurant here on Trip Advisor and giving us an opportunity to give the positive feedback to our staff that will most certainly motivate and inspire them to preform even better.

We are happy to hear that you had an outstanding experience in Jala Restaurant, and that you enjoyed ambience, service and the culinary aspects of Jala. When we first envisioned Jala and the goals we set out to achieve, it was clear to us that we wanted it to be an incorporated part of the historic rainforest surrounding it and with an open restaurant, so our guests can appreciate the unequalled view of the Andaman sea while being provided with gastronomical experiences.

We are lucky enough to be connected with a group of enthusiastic young fishermen that provide us with only the most sustainable and best quality of seafood available in the area. We are very happy to hear that you noticed that and that you enjoyed the preparation of the seafood as well as the side dishes.

Like the rest of the menu, the dessert list is an inspiration from both Malay and Danish cuisine, and we always look forward to perfecting and developing these elements of the menu, which is a gratifying process - it gives us great pleasure to learn new ways of showcasing both cuisines in their best ways.

Thank you for your positive comment on the attentiveness and friendliness of our service staff. They are very happy to get these positive feedbacks and it will most certainly boost their motivation and encourage even better experiences in the future.

Culinary regards,
Chef Rene
