We absolutely loved this place. From the moment of our arrival at the airport where we were picked up in an air conditioned minibus, to our last day when we were offered very late check out and use of all facilities at no extra cost , we felt like we were in heaven. To wake up in the morning and look along the huge deserted beach and across to the islands and see no other sign of habitation was amazing.

All the staff were delightful, and we were acknowledged with smiles and greetings at all times.,and they appeared to be genuinely keen that we should have a good stay. The manager, apparently fairly newly appointed at the time we visited, was frequently seen around the grounds, which were beautifully maintained by a small army of gardeners.

Our room overlooked the garden and pool on the spa side of the complex, and was huge. When we arrived , the member of staff who showed us up was apologetic that the room had not been recently refurbished and told us that the hotel was about to embark on a programme of renovation, but to be truthful we had no complaints at all - everything was spotless, - huge bed , two balconies, two sitting areas, two tvs ,fruit ,chocolates , etc, etc. Maybe if we looked closely there was some slight scuffing on some of the woodwork., but to complain about that would be excessively picky.

It was very peaceful while we were there as the hotel was under half full, but we met some guests who had stayed before when the place was busy but they said it never felt even remotely crowded.

Food was geat with plenty of choice of venue and different dining styles. Room service was available at no extra cost.

It was our first time in Asia so our experience is limited although we have travelled extensively in Europe. We did visit another highly rated hotel on the island , but much preferred the setting and reaxed atmosphere at the Tanjung Rhu. We met many guests, of many nationalities who were on their second or third visits and we would love to return.

Where do we start. We read and re-read reviews about this hotel before we left on our honeymoon, and had high expectations. After travelling around Borneo for two weeks, we were looking forward to a little bit of luxury, and wow were we impressed. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty by the staff, always greeted with a smile and by our names. The beach is gorgeous, and was practically empty, so it feels like you have it completely to yourselves. The sea is emerald green and there are limestone cliffs all around, it reminded us of Koh Pi Pi in Thailand. Really good to have an adults only pool, made for a very tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.
All 3 restaurants were superb and we couldn't believe the standard of the food considering we were on an all inclusive package. It is a definate must to go all inclusive, or it could get pricey. The Rhu Restaurant was a special highlight with 6 course gourmet dinners, and a string quartet playing in the reading room next door, that you could enjoy if you were eating al fresco.
Only gripe i had was that we had a Bayu Senja room, which is one of the most expensive, and sells itself as sea facing. We only had a partial seaview, that could only be seen when we sat on our bed. We asked to move, but there was not another room available with a better view?? We have been assured by the management this will be considered and dealt with during the hotels refurbishments that are on going.
It was still a perfect place for a romantic holiday, especially a honeymoon, and is the best hotel we have ever stayed (narrowly beating the Rasa Ria Resort we staying at in Borneo at the start of our honeymoon).
Finally we stayed for 5 nights and had fantstic weather considering it is coming to the end of there rainy season, we only encountered one afternoon with any showers and they only lasted for an hour.

Tanjung Rhu is definitely a 5-6 stars hotel in Langkawi, in terms of everything. Apart from having its own private beach, plus 3 in-house restaurants that serve delicious food (this is a surprising finding in a hotel!), what tops up the hotel is really its staff which is its priceless asset. All the small details truly convince me that Tanjung Rhu is the best one in Langkawi, and I’ll definitely stay here again should we return to the place.

Tanjung Rhu is huge, with 3 restaurants, 3 pools (and 2 pool bars) and a huge private beach. We were upgraded to the “All-inclusive-package” even though we’ve only booked the lowest grade (smallest) DAMAI ROOM, still this studio room is huge with a balcony overseeing a pool view, and twice room cleaning services per day. “All-incl-package” enabled us to enjoy all food & beverages free of charge within the whole hotel area, including 24hrs in-room dining!! This really saved us a lot, in terms of time and money, as very often the 1-day-tours we joined required us to start early in the morning (say 8-9am) so in-room breakfast really helped a lot. And when you’re back to the hotel after an exhausting Mangrove Kayaking trip you don’t really want to go out again for dinner. And believe it or not, in-room dining is also delicious! And think of endless icy drinks from pool bars while you’re sun-bathing. The 3 restaurants: Sands, Saffron, and The Rhu serve different cuisines. We’ve just tried Sands and Saffron, since Rhu is for fine dining while my boyfriend forgot to bring a pair of decent shoes so couldn’t go in. Sands is where you’ve daily buffet breakfast, but mainly serves Asian cuisine which is OK standard. But Saffron, which serve Western and fusion food, really serve very delicious dishes. It also offers live band at night, and seats outside facing the beach to dine as well which is similar to beach dining but cost zero extra.

Another thing is hotel kept cleaning the beach so it is extremely clean with stunning views of sunrise + sunset (heard that TR got the best sunset view in Langkawi). 1 special thing I want to note here is that we were able to walk OUT INTO the sea to watch sunset, and even ACROSS the sea to reach the opposite island during low tides!! (see my pics and you’ll know what I’m talking about.) It was just amazing - we felt like we were Moses crossing the Red Sea….

This hotel and its entire group of staff simply make you feel so cared for. I’ve never felt this before even I’m used to Japan’s super-polite-helpful-service standard. Staffs of Tanjung Rhu are not just extremely helpful, but they are simply able to think in advance for you. Examples: 1) 1 morning when we were waiting for Langkawi Coral’s pickup at the hotel lobby, a hotel staff was so smart to pass us 2 big hotel towels and said “they will charge you on this, you better bring it yourself.” Then he added “Usually they will come late so maybe you can do some internet surfing first.” And truth is Langkawi Coral simply forgot to pick us up! The staff then arranged taxi for us immediately. 2) The night before our departure we met another staff, Mr. R Salleh, who works as the tour guide of hotel’s outdoor activities. When he learnt that it was our last night with Tanjung Rhu, he gave us a surprise by inviting us to do star-gazing in the hotel beach with his telescope, from which he showed us the star of Jupiter! He then said “as my gift to you at your last night with us.” SO SWEET INDEED!! Thank you Mr Salleh! 3) On our departure morning when we were heading off our room we met a staff at our door. He immediately politely asked if we’re checking out, and when we said yes, he at once advised that we can simply leave the luggage in our room as they will pick them down to the check out lobby for us. How can you not appreciate all these little warmth the staff presents!

We went to the Tanjung Rhu in August 2009. From the moment we landed, we absolutely loved it - we were greeted at the airport with a waiting car that had complimentary bottles of water and cold towels to help us feel more refreshed after a 14 hour flight! We stayed in a Damai room, which is the cheapest available but spacious and very comfortable with a huge bed, and a lovely personal touch of fresh fruit that was changed every day to something new and exotic. We had the all inclusive package which was great value for money and we fully recommend it - all the restaurants had great quality food, plenty of choice and the hotel were great at putting on special menus so that guests don't get bored i.e authentic Malaysian buffet or a gourmet dinner at the Sands restaurant. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble at all. In particular, Fendi and Daniel were great throughout our entire stay. The beach was beautiful and we couldn't believe how close it was - at low tide you can walk across the sand trail to Turtle Island. My boyfriend hurt his ankle the day before we arrived at the hotel so although he couldn't participate in any physical activities, he still never got bored as the hotel puts on daily activities, from wood carving to a playstation tournament!! We also recommend the Mangrove tour (where you can see monkeys, bats and eagles) and a visit to the night market in Kua (you can either get a taxi or pay for a shuttle bus provided by the hotel). Finally, my sister's wedding on the beach was organised by Juslinda who did an amazing job to make sure that it was perfect and completely unforgettable - beautiful scenery, gorgeous flower arch for the ceremony, great chocolate wedding cake and an outstanding barbecue dinner on the beach after sunset (which any guest can have at a reasonable price). We loved it so much that we have already planned to start saving to go back again - this was definitely our best holiday ever, absolutely faultless!! :o)

Stayed for 5 days on the all exclusive romance deal with my wife, must say that the deal was good value. The location was stunning, the staff were very good but If I had to have any complaints it would be that you never saw any of the management team ( except when they were in front of you at the breakfast buffet) We stayed in a garden view room, which was dark and the balcony faced onto a path around the perimeter of the building and some scrub land, the hotel itself seemed alittle bit tired and the pools and paths could have been kept free of fallen leaves etc.
Overall a nice hotel but not in the same league as the Datai.

We have been to many resorts both in asia and caribbean but the standard of service here was top notch.
The first day was a good checkin in the room but sadly our three daughters were not next door to us but upstairs so we were not happy, but the staff soon sorted it out but it wasnt until the next day that we could move into our new rooms. The manager Eric came to see us and offered us a complimentary spa treatment and was very appologetic for the inconvenience. We would have preferred if the rooms were adjoining in the first instance as we vwere only there for 5 nights and couldnt settle into our rooms until the next day.
Anyhow, the resort was perfect as the staff were very obliging and catered for our special dietary needs with great joy rather than making us feel that we were demanding and not making do with whatever alternatives there were for vegetarians as there was always plenty of choice on the menu.
The teenagers were quite independent and managed to organize meals on their own a few times. They also stayed up late to play in the games room a few nights not getting back till nearly 1 am but it was all safe and they made a few freinds there. They also took advantage of the all inclusive room service on many occassions too. Even late at night they ordered inroom service and were served with a smile!
We realize the mangrove tour is expensive when compared to booking it from outside but Zoher the tour guide was full of incredible knowledge which he shared with us and was well worth the half day and made us appreciate mother nature even more.
We left the kids in the hotel as they didnt want to go to Kuah and took a taxi organised by the hotel fot a half day shopping trip and managed to buy some lovely souvenirs for our home so that we would remember Langkawi forever.
We also asked Ardy in the artisan hut to make us a huge batik painting for our living room which we paid for there and will get posted out to us in England. The artisan hut had many activities every day but our kids didnt take advantage of this facilty.
We would go back again but we do want to see a lot more places in the world with our family.
We shall miss the chef in Sands restaurant as he made special effort for us. Also miss the smiling staff which are the best asset of the resort as it is not that wow to look at but the service is wow!
Thanks for a great experience.
