“Pretty Nice resort walking distance to Cable Cars”
Reviewed January 22, 2011

Resort location is stunning. Service was extraordinary and food was lovely.
Picture shown in the official website is a little misleading since there are only two distinct type of chalet set up (sea side and forest side) and there is nothing much we can do at the time of booking for choice of rooms or views.More over, there were no paid upgrade options at the time of check in. reason given being fully booked, that i doubt.
The room furniture etc is a little worn out but maintained really well. Housekeeping is very good, they might surprise you with towel animals! TV broadcast was terrible in the room. They could not fix it for some reason.Internet was not free and is available at 15 MYR per day. There are many things to do in the resort itself.I would suggest to read the information booklet available in the room and make bookings as soon as you arrive.
Buggy pick up vans are plenty. The Beach Restaurant is good, Also, please do read the 'Flora and Fauna' booklet. There are quite a few animals, flying mammals, and insects in the forest/resort.They are not particularly dangerous but it is good to know and you wont be shocked to find one on the way to your chalet.
Pool is nice and a waterfall setting and a pool bar.
The Phad Thai restaurant on the waters is very busy and you will need 1 day prior reservation to dine there.Location is about 30 mins from the airport, quite and serene island.Local taxi will charge 24 MYR only for a one way trip from the airport. I would suggest the airport prepaid taxis.

We stayed in a chalet in the forest. The decor & functionality were a bit dated but the rooms were clean and comfortable. We loved the location in the forest, with monkeys and other wildlife just on the doorstep.

The shuttlebus service was efficient. But we'd like to see them transition to electric vehicles in due course to complete the eco-friendly nature of the resort.

The food was surprisingly authentic for a big hotel.

The staff were all friendly and helpful.

I have booked a Premier Chalet via their website for 3 adults for 4D3N.(my old parents and myself) It's really start of my nightmare. There are 2 single-size spring mattress beds and 1 sofa bed in Room 1267. I was surprised that they do not provide the 'normal bed' for the third person because in my booking confirmation receipt stated clearly that 3rd adult rate includes extra bed. But I never expected a sofa bed. I slept on the sofa bed on the first night. It was so uncomfortable that I requested a bed the very next morning. The staff with blue batik sarong at the lobby reception told me that I required to pay extra for the bed. Of cos, that's not the problem as long as I can have a good nights sleep for the next 2 nights. After a short while, the staff told me they will get me a bed with no costs, I was happy for the service. BUT, when I reached my room at night I saw a rollover bed.Oh gosh, I was really frustrated and mad because they just don't get what I wanted. In the end, we got a total of 4 beds (2 spring mattress beds + sofabed + rollover bed) for 3 adults? This is crazy! I tried to make myself comfortable by putting the rollover bed mattress over the sofabed, it is never comforatble. My body and neck is aching every morning. And also, on our first nights, they provide 3 towels but on the our 2nd and 3rd night they only provide with 2 towels!

After reading many mixed reviews of this resort prior to our Xmas & New Year trip there, we were very confused as to what to expect! So, we decided to go with an open mind, and see what happened......here's what happened!!

Arrival & check-in was very easy & quick. We were then taken to our room, by Shuttle Bus. Luckily we had a"Premier Chalet" on stilts over the sea. The room was spacious, little dated but very clean. Housekeeping was very good. However, we had major problems with the Air Con.... it was a very old unit, and you could not adjust the speed at all, Low/Med/High was all the same! This made sleeping impossible, as it was too hot without the AC on, and too noisy with it on! Maintenance did come out, but said they could not do anything and all of the units were the same in those rooms!! We were left with a small ceiling fan, which was pretty useless......

As we were supposedly "Premier" guests, Breakfast was served at the Beach restaurant, and not the main building. We found the food very repetitive, and not at all appealing. The Staff were quite abrupt, and service very, very slow. After talking to other guests, they said the breakfast in the main cafe was OK, so we tried it. Yes it was better, more choice and more appetising! ....This does not make sense, after all "Premier" guests will have certainly paid a premium for better standard of accommodation, and allegedly food & service!? This was not the case with Breakfast service....

We ate at the Thai restaurant at the resort, which was OK. Nothing special and small portions for the price you pay. We also had lunch a couple of times at the Poolside, this was quite nice and was better than going into actual the Beach restaurant for lunch, as again the service was very poor. We had Room service delivered a couple of times, and again very poor and expensive for what we were given.

As we were there for Xmas & New Year, we HAD to attend the Gala New Years Eve dinner. We did not have a choice, as it is compulsory!!This was set out on the beach, which was different, and looked very nice. However, the food was set out buffet style which you helped yourself to, no idea how long it would have been there but it was cold!!! The food, (including Seafood) was left in the very warm humid atmosphere for quite some time.....needless to say I became ill very quickly after eating. Talking to other guests, quite a few were ill too after this event.
Apart from a "fruit" cocktail on arrival, no drinks were included in the price, this made the price of the ticket very expensive for what you got! Entertainment was a local band, but the night was aimed at entertaining the kids all night, and certainly NOT a New Years Eve celebration! Fireworks at midnight were very good....

The beach is quite nice, not very big and the resort is quite isolated. We thought overall, the Berjaya is dated and in need of a re-fit. Seems this is going on in some areas.
We found a lot of the Staff quite sullen, and not very friendly and service very slow. As the resort is very large and spread out, it is not ideal for anyone with walking difficulties, although the Shuttle service is good if you don't mind using that....

So, beware, a disppointing resort and not one we would re-visit or recommend!

We stayed for 5 nights and booked the Premier Water Chalet which is a fully renovated room over the sea with good sized balcony, separate large bath with great views. Very comfortable super king bed and housekeeping do a fantastic job. The room is serviced twice daily. Friends meet us there on Christmas day and they had booked a deluxe rainforest chalet. DO NOT book these rooms. They are very old, smell musty and small. Spend the extra money and get a renovated room. They were lucky enough to be able to upgrade to a junior water chalet. This room was identical to ours but backed onto the rainforest and was slightly smaller in floor space. The resort as previously mentioned is very large but the shuttle bus service is run very well. The pool area and beach and nice and well maintained. There were some sea lice so swimming in the sea was out. We dined at the Chinese and Japanese restaurant and food was excellent in both. The Beach Cafe has great views and a relaxing atmosphere and the breakfast was good, we also had lunch here twice and this also was good. The cable car is well worth it as the view is spectacular. The best Restaurant was just down the road, a $10 cab ride, at the Marina called Privilege restaurant. This is Maylaysian cuisine. Peter the owner is amazing and food is the best in all of Langkawi, also good selection of wine at great prices. I would highly recommend hiring a car and travelling around the island. Also make sure you book a sunset cruise with Eva. This is well worth the money. Damah Indah private cruises. Check out the website and you wont be disappointed.

a very natural and beautiful place, most likely suitable for everyone. it is visible that this place and challets were planned and crafted with much love. so it is very easy to feel really comfortable in here. the cable car, as well as two water falls are quite near to the resort. many sporting opportunities are offered.

the beach is very clean, but there is jelly fish around. the venue is quite solitary, so that visitor's are quite dependent to the resort and especially its restaurants. The food has a real big variety and is very good.

This hotel is massive - u need a shuttle service to go to your rooms or to go to the pool area. The rooms are very very nice - with every small thing taken care off. The bathrooms are very spacious.

The food in all the restaurants was absolutely delicious. Pool is good sized. Only thing i think they need to improve on is the huge lines in the reception. Took us a good half an hr to check in.
