“Fantastic Stay”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

I can't say enough about this place, it was brilliant. My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our trip to Malaysia for some sun, sea and sand. The team were so friendly and welcoming when we arrived and our rainforest chalet was lovely - it was only a short walk to the main lobby which suited us well, as although we tended to take the shuttle back to the chalet, we would walk down to the lobby in the mornings.
We ate in the Chinese and Thai restaurants while we were there as well as the Cafe overlooking the beach - the Thai and Cafe food was delicious, the Chinese was nice although a little disappointing in comparison to the others. We also managed to save 20% off on our bill on a couple of nights by eating during 'early bird' (5-6.30pm).
The beach was stunning, as was the pool area and there was never any problem getting sun loungers. We also went for a walk through the chalets a couple of mornings and saw plenty on monkeys! We'd have loved to have stayed longer here and will definitely be going back in the future - I strongly recommend this place!

We were here July 2013 for 2 nights/3 days. We had a Family Chalet - 2 adjacent rooms, perfect for our family of 4.

We were there in the month of Ramadan which was quieter than regular time. The on-site restaurants were very good serving mix of Malaysian and Western cuisines. Note that Ramadan is fasting month for Muslims, so expect the restaurants outside the hotel's ground to be closed limiting your dining choices.

The pool was small for the size of the property. The beaches were reasonably clean but the water was not inviting enough for us - this is true for most of the beaches on the west coast of West Malaysia. So, if you are looking for nice, white sandy beaches, look towards the east coast, especially the islands like Tioman or Redang. Or take a plane to Sabah/Sarawak. The beaches in Langkawi are similar to those in California(where we are from) and the Mexican resorts like Puerta Vallarta(where we have been).

We were greeted by monkeys every day. We feed them with fruits but interestingly, they left our wet swimwear, which we hang over the balcony railings, alone.

The surrounding forest are well preserved and the chalets blend in well. Our chalet was a 5 mins walk to the main lobby - request for a chalet closer to the lobby especially if you have young kids.

The on-site Thai restaurant serves very fresh seafood. My kids of 9 and 12 had their best fish and chips. Ever.

We didn't rent a car and with hindsight should have, especially hauling 2 kids around. Taxicabs are only readily available at certain locations and the fares add up fast. I would rent a car if you plan to explore outside your hotel.

You can get a free ride from the hotel to the cable car station. We rode the cable cars but the view up on the hills was hazy that day. We took a cab to Telaga Tujuh (7 wells/waterfalls) and hike up the trail with our swimwear and packed lunches. There were only a few of us and contractors were still building out restrooms and shaded picnic areas. We slided from one well down to the one below and had a nice time. The deepest well was about 12 feet and beware as the rocks and pebbles are slippery.

Room Tip: Request for a room closer to the main lobby if you have young kids. It can take up to 15 mins by sh...

We booked the Berjaya Resort as a luxury end for a month long trip and were very disappointed, on arrival there was no welcome, just a rude and unhelpful receptionist, our Rainforest Chalet had mould in the bathroom, dirty towels and bathrobe (one!) with a large hole in the front, curtains hanging of the wall and stained furniture. Half of the guests were attending a convention which meant that some of the restaurants were off limits to us and the beach was used for workshops during the day.
The food served in the Danang restaurant, which we were allowed to use and where breakfast was served, was appalling and the service terrible. The last straw was being turned away from the beach restaurant for lunch on the second day, as it was "reserved for delegates", but it was virtually empty. After complaints to the management we were offered another chalet over the water, which was an improvement, and credited with 2 meals and drinks for the first 2 days. There were some good points to the Berjaya, location is fantastic and the site is huge, with a surprising variety of wildlife, Devs evening walk is a must, and the Thai restaurant is excellent, BUT, this is not a 5 star resort, generally the service is very poor, large areas around the main building are badly in need of repair/updating, the lobby toilets are truly awful, the pool is very small with uncomfortable old sun beds and no service, although we were assured there was, and areas not kept clean. Overall, if you are happy with very poor service in a great setting give this a try, but we won't be going back

Loved the peacefulness of this resort after touring Vietnam & Cambodia. Staff excellent, food great, especially Oriental Pearl ( cantonese), rooms clean & comfortable., Stayed in a rainforest chalet about 3 mins shuttle drive from reception, pools, etc. Never waited more than 5 mins for shuttle. 1/2 hr drive to main town for duty free ( dissappointing except for alcohol or cigarettes) I can get perfume cheaper in Chemists here ! Would def stay again; maybe check out the chalets on the water.

It was a package deal with the hotel for 30 guests. The beach wedding ceremony cum dinner at night went on smoothly. Light refreshments like satay & spring roll was served at Dayang Café for guests. The dinner reception was held in the function room, nicely decorated, with a "tea ceremony" corner at our request. A big thank-you to the efficient coordination of Mr. Roger, the Event Manager. We had Chinese set dinner. The food served, including the wedding cakes, was good throughout. Guests particularly loves the "ice-cream in red bean-soup" desert. Beach front scenery was picturesque with cheering blue sky & splendid blue sea throughout the day. Chalet style stay with running shuttles serves very unique holiday experience for all guests who come with a common get together event, at the same time enjoying their individual exclusive stay.

Room Tip: Room 1505 , the bridal suite, has excellent sea view, also diagonally opposite the "floating&qu...

Pros:
1. The resort surroundings are nice with seaview and the rain forest.
2. The swimming pool is fun with a bar inside so that u can drink inside the pool while u r swimming.

Cons:
1. small room compare w other resorts in south east Asia region.
2. Weak Wifi signal
3. Far from other attractions and activities spot in langkawi
4. Shuttle bus service inside thy hotel is slow and unresponsive
5. Not up to standard food
6. Service is not customer centric

Generally speaking, the pros do not outweigh the cons and is fair to say its a rather disappointing experience.

Stay in Chalet on the Water room 1505. Splendid view! Room was clean. Service was great. Food at Phan-Thai Restaurant was awesome & not really expensive. Being shuttled everwhere. Very close to Oriental Village & Seven Wells Waterfall. Varieties for breakfast at Beach Restaurant. Too bad booked only for 2 nights. Will definitely come back!
