This hotel is in a beautiful location nestled between a white sand beach and a rain forest. Our group stayed in two different room categories. The rainforest studio was recently refurbished, big and bright, with great views of the sea. The family chalet was a dingy and dated, but adequate. One thing to know is that this hotel is VERY spread out, so you will end up walking a lot (our room was 10 to15 minutes walk from the pool/beach/restaurant), or waiting for the shuttle service. The shuttle service was inconsistent. Sometimes, five minutes to arrive, sometimes 20 minutes. The rooms are rather expensive for Asia, but Langkawi hotels in general are more expensive than most of Malaysia. The beach is really nice - wide, white sand with plenty of shady loungers. The pool area was somewhat crowded, but not unbearable. However, poolside service was non-existant. You had to literally go to the pool hut to order any food or beverages. Strange. Breakfast was very good. Food at the Beach Restaurant (more formal) and the Boathouse (very casual with tables in the sand) was very good with pretty good service. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall, this is a good hotel.

Room Tip: Rainforest studios have nice sea views and are much less expensive than the overwater rooms.

We stayed at the Berjaya as part of our honeymoon booked through Kuoni. They had arranged private transfers from the airport and we were warmly welcomed to the hotel. They had originally said we could have a free room upgrade to the next level but on arrival they only had the rainforest chalet we had booked. We were more than happy with this. Situated up on the hill you felt secluded enough. Room was good size, clean and bathroom was nice and we got a welcome cake and fruit. Shuttle buses were busy at times but walking around the grounds was actually much nicer anyway. Breakfast was included and buffet style. We went down late and still ate enough to not need much more than a snack for lunch. On taking to our Kuoni rep we mentioned that there was no room upgrade and she chatted to the manager and he upgraded us to an on sea premium chalet. This was amazing. Sea views and a huge room! Chocolate and fruits left for us everyday. The pool was busy all day but why use the pool when there is a private beach which always had spare loungers. Beech was lovely. Clean and quite with amazing views. The hotel is remote but we wanted a relaxing time and this is what we had. Thai restaurant and beach restaurant were both really nice, expensive compared to Penang but still soo cheap compared to the uk and well worth it. Food was very good at both. Had a free wildlife walk around the grounds and this was such an eye opener to the amount if wildlife. Monkeys, Lemurs, hornbills, fruit bats, flying squirrels and more. Definitely recommend that. We really really enjoyed our stay here and wanted it to be longer. Would recommend to anyone!

Stayed at the Berjaya for 7 days in January 2014, have to say the resort is outstanding as is the food quality and friendly service of staff which we encountered. The resort is HUGE, we were in room 2110 which is close to reception and pool etc, easy walking - however the resort has 9 internal mini style buses to get you about if you are some distance away. The resort is well placed near the Chinese Village/Cable car and about a 30 min trip by taxi (30 ringgit or $10 AUS) to town centre (we hired scooters for 28 ringgit per day to get about as taxis will get expensive).
All in all the Berjaya is well worth the stay - hope this was helpful...

We've just come back from our Malaysian trip and the last place we'd stayed 'berjaya' was definitely our favourite place we stayed during our 12 day trip. We didn't actually choose this resort as we booked it through a tour operator, but having seen the pictures it looked ok, so we agreed. But reading reviews before we went, had me in two minds. But I'm glad we stayed there, it was very relaxing, and we liked the chalets that blended nicely into the landscape, it makes it look quite Eco friendly. We loved our beach, and yes it is in the middle of know where, but that's good if your looking for such a thing. This is our first time that we stayed in a resort, as we don't normally do this kind of breaks. And it was lovely. Our first stay was at a rainforest chalet, which was nice and was quite close by the main lobby, so if you didn't want to use the free shuttle we were able to walk. which suited us. Then our final stay was the premier chalet on sea. Which was fabulous and we got a nice surprise from the resort as they knew it was our wedding anniversary. so they surprised us with a cake and fruits and chocolates, which was really sweet. Weirdly our rainforest chalet decor was actually newer than the ones in the premier chalets. But I think they are due for refurbish as when were there, they were doing up some of the other water chalets there. But it didn't bother us too much, as it was fine, just quite used, like old wear and tear... Like other reviews though, it is true that they could improve on the resort, like lounge cushion on the beach, some our a bit battered and could be changed. But really there are just more aesthetics... all in all, we got a good vibe from the resort, the shuttle bus didn't take long, and we really enjoyed our stay. The only negative thing is people leaving there towels on sun loungers. And not being there for half of the time. I think there should be rule of not letting people do that. It's fine if your going to come back in half an hour. But if your not going to use it, you should let people who want to use it, use it. Personally I think that's rude and selfish, when people hog them.

Recently my partner and i stayed at the Berjara resort in langkawi i strongly suggest that if you are considering staying at this supposably 5 star resort it's important that you realise this resort is badly in need of a renovation the rooms are dirty you can only get us place at the pool if you are willing to get up very early. You are restricted to 2 restaurants for breakfast and they are generally full . It's a good taxi ride out of the resort if you want to try eating outside the resort. There is no bar service while on the beach if you are seated on the beach lounges Please note that the photos on last minute.com are in no way the most recent photos. And please if you are on a honeymoon this place will break your heart . On a positive note the Thai restaurant at the resort is fantastic and the service is right up there. Please don't waste your money like we did.

Dear Guest,

Greetings from Berjaya Langkawi Resort.

Firstly, thank you very much for the review after your recent stay.
On behalf of the team, please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences experienced during your recent stay, on your honeymoon at that.
We are actually slated to carry out further refurbishments to the Hotel in general as we are painfully aware that our rustic, natural concept is in need for a touch up of sorts.

In the meantime, rest assured we will continue to ensure that our guest comfort and satisfaction is maintained as our top priority.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if I can assist with your future stay with us.
I do look forward to hearing from you and for us to be able to serve you again.

Thank you.
