“Wonderful, friendly resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2008

We stayed at the Westin Langkawi for a week to celebrate a joint family birthday in May. We were coming from the UK, Singapore and Australia so wanted somewhere special. The Westin didn't disappoint. We had six children ranging from 3yrs to 12yrs and they all had an absolutely fantastic time - particularly in the hotel's Rock pool. The food was suitable for all ages and nationalities of children and there was plenty of choice around the resort. And if you did need to get the children out of the midday sun there was a covered shopping centre nearby with kid-friendly activities including sand art and a bouncy castle. The resort setting was gorgeous. The grounds were beautifully tended and clean, the swimming pools were fantastic and the views from the bar and restaurant were wonderful. And, despite not really being suitable for swimming, the beach was clean and pleasant - even when the tide was out. But perhaps the best thing about the Westin was the staff. Charming, friendly and incredibly helpful, they made our children feel like celebrities - and nearly all had an exhaustive knowledge of soccer to please our Manchester United-mad six-year-old! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to other families.

We stayed in a pool villa for 7 nights with our two kids (3 & 1 yrs old) and had a wonderful time.

The location is set in front of the beach, although the beach itsself is not the best, the hotel's facilities (including 3 pools) are a great place to hang out, with views of the sea and surrounding islands.

The staff was excellent, very attentive and we genuinely felt very welcome at all times. They especially took great care of our two little ones while we were i.e. having a meal.

The hotel's buffet breakfast is to die for. Try the omelettes or chocolate crepes :) They also have a good value dinner buffet which changes daily.

There is a kid's club and a play area and there are many tours to do with kid-friendly activities, i.e. bird feeding, fish feeding, elephant riding, bat caves, monkey watching, etc.

The only problem we encountered was the villa's bad smell upon entering (which seemed to fade away over the days) and an electrical glitch which had (annoying) music playing in our villa over the loudspeaker for the first hours of our stay.
The villa manager did his best to rectify these problems asap and treated us to a dinner to make us feel great.

The spa is not as nicely decorated as others we have been to in Asia, but the therapists know what they are doing - look out for a therapist named Wiji.

Should we go back to Langkawi, we'd definitely like to stay at the Westin again!

It took a long time to choose a honeymoon destination and an even longer to choose the hotel but i dont think we could have picked a better place. What an amazing resort, it completely surpassed any expectations that I had.
The island of Langkawi itself is a beautiful place, if you're looking for late nights and partying this is not really the right place to go to as to be honest a lot of places are closed by 9.30pm! but if you're after amazing wildlife, rainforests, beautiful beaches and really just cutting off from the fast pace of everyday life (especially in the UK) then I would completely recommend langkawi and most definitely a stay at the westin.
We had the villa booked with 42 inch LCDs, a bathroom to die for, private outdoor massage area and private swimming pool complete with a view straight onto the private beach and sea. The Westin is ideally located as many of the day trips and activities are booked at the Jeti area which is round the corner from the hotel, and they are more than accommodating in terms of picking you up and dropping you off as you are staying at the Westin. The service at this hotel is completely unparalleled to anywhere else I've ever stayed, the attention to detail and absolute genuine warmth of the hospitality of the staff there is unbelievable, I would love to in particular thank Mr Fawad the villa manager, and Rendi who were absolutely exceptional. Although every single member of staff was brilliant.
The breakfast selection is Jaw dropping breakfasts, if you actually go to the breakfast area in the mornings (defintely worth adding them to your stay!!) as well as fabulous views and beautiful interior decor all over the hotel, in particular the rooms.
Overall a 10/10 if i could give it more I would!!!

We chose the Westin and Langkawi as our first stop for our Honeymoon - what a choice we made!

Stunning hotel all over - with super rooms, grounds, pool area's, breakfast and dining options.

Food was first class - best breakfast choice I have ever had, with the most stunning views. The evening buffett seems a bit pricey compared to local restauraunts, but still well worth the money for the diversity and the chance to try different dishes.

Location is good - just around the corner from Kuah - the Island's main town. You can take a taxi there to either the town for the night market or to the harbour area where you can book trips and car hire etc and do some more shopping.

Well worth booking a car for 1-2 days to tour the Island - with visits to Channai, the cable car and Tanjung Arhu for the sunset being top of the list. Car hire is very chaep (we paid £10 a day) and petrol is a steal.

Beware the monkeys in the hotel and on trips - dont approach them as they may turn against you. Also keep your bags etc safe as they have developed a skill of opening them and taking whatever they fancy!! Funny though!!

The downside is that the beach is not that nice - but from what we saw of other hotels this remains top of our list by far for overall facilities and location etc.

A certainty for a honeymoon / romantic break. Allow yourself at least 7 days if you want to relax and see the island though - we were only there for 5 days, but are certain to return to see the rest sometime.

We have just returned from a week at the Westin Resort & Spa. The hotel is magnificent, tipified by the incredible service offered by all staff at the resort.

As per other reviews our greeting was top class, drinks, cold towels etc. The added bonus for us was that my wife is pregnant and the resort offered Anti-natal massage, which was brilliant according to my wife.

Prices were good, not over the top as some people would say. We wanted a relaxing break after a week in KL and the Westin offered exactly that, Swim up bar, rock pool, kids club were a few of our favourites. The Breeze bar is a great spot for a relaxing drink after a hard day swimming in the pool!

If you want to rest, relax, and enjoy well this is the place for you. Although the beach is not up to Australian beaches this was not a concern as we spent our time around the pools.

I only have 2 down sides to report. The water sports on offer are limited and usually closed by 5pm. One day they were closed at 3.30 as it was low tide and there are a few rocks which could be hazardous for the uninitiated. The other thing is the day trips or boat tours. The hotel will charge you a higher rate than what you can get by contacting the tour yourself, this can be quite a large difference.

We ate, drank, had massages, put our daughter in the kids club and generally had a great time and to my surprise at the end of our 7 nights and 8 days our bill was less than AU$100 a day (for 3 of us!!).

One additional tip, you can take the 10 ringgit taxi into Kuah and stock up on duty free alcohol etc at a fraction (10%) of the price you pay at the hotel, but obviously you miss out on the ambiance of the pool bar and others. I took a few beers down to the beach one afternoon and enjoyed a few before heading up to the pool bar!!

Even though many other hotels are closer to the night life, this was great for a relaxing break, and hey a taxi is less the AU$10 to Pantai Cenang anyway.

We loved it and next time we will stay longer!!

We spent the first four days and nights of our Malaysian honeymoon at the Westin in Langkawi - it was the perfect way to decompress after weeks, no, months of wedding planning!

Withing 24 hours of arriving, we felt we'd been there for days.

The lovely staff who work at the Langkawi accommodated our every need and were a pleasure to talk with. Every single person who worked there would say hello and greet you with a real smile, whenever we wandered past.

Particular thanks to Mohan & YoYo, who at the cocktail sunset hour chatted away to us like old mates, telling us all about their country and what they knew about ours. We instantly felt welcome.

The swim up bar is a highlight, the food a delight, and the spa treatments were exactly that... a treat.

Thank you, Westin Langkawi - we are still talking and reminiscing on our fabulous experience and won't forget our honeymoon ever!

OMG!!! We loved the Westin, can not wait to go back there! The staff, the hotel and surrounding areas are breath taking! The service was above standard and could not fault the resort itself. On the down side, the reception staff were very slow and the resort itself is a littel bit pricey. A perfect place for anyone that wants to get away for quiet R&R.
