De Baron Resort Langkawi

I just came back from langkawi (25jan13).
Stayed here for a night at the standard room (2single beds).
We was offered their promotional rate i.e. Rm150/night (which was the cheapest price).
My room was quiet spacious since it was the corner room.
For the price i paid.i can say that it's acceptable:
1.room was clean.
2.bathroom was spacious & clean.
3.the location was ok.not so far from kuah town.and walking distance from jetty to island hopping.
4.basic ammeneties provided(towel,tea,drinking water)
5.staff was quiet helpful although a bit slow
The set-backs were:
1.the lift was superrr slow
2.we decided to take the stairs. But staircase was dirty as if no one ever clean it up.
3.dont expect much from their free breakfast.overall it was tasty.but limited choices.plus their plates and glasses were dirty.you really have to triple check it before using it.
Overall it depends on how much you have to pay.if its the actual price (rm300 for my room!!) i suggest you should try another hotels..

With a name so cool, anyone could have been misled to imagine a hotel which could be up to a certain admirable class.

The service was slow. The lobby was embarrassing. There are two lots. One was featured in most ads, where the view was more acceptable. The other was shop lots converted to extended hotel rooms. The second lot was pathetic. At times, the lobby would be totally in the dark. The interior design was just as sad as the reception lobby. So was the curtains of the rooms. I open the curtain just to find stained windows. Gross. Like someone puked on the glass and other was left unwiped for weeks.

The plus side was that the toilet was decent and it is near Kuah town night market.

I would never want to recommend my friends to stay there.

The resort was ok but the view was awesome. My son loved the swimming pool and watch the sunset everyday. The staffs were helpful but needs to improve its system to reduce waiting time. It would help if the breakfast spread to have a little variety. But overall still acceptable by my standards. =)

Room Tip: Room are ok but again I am not a fussy traveller. My family did not complain either.

Stayed here for 1 night. Only chose this hotel because it is quite near to Kuah town and Bayview is fully booked.

The lobby is just old and run down, front desk was hopeless, front desk officer took 10minutes to acknowledge us. After checking-in, we were told that our room is located across the road. We had the impression that we have a sea facing view, or at least within the same hotel grounds. The so called hotel is actually a row of shophouses converted into a hotel. And there wasn't anyone to help with our luggage.

Upon entering the room, we were welcomed with a strong odor, the whole room and the toilet just stinks.

Nothing else to say about this hotel except AVOID at all cost!

Room Tip: If you do insist on staying here, make sure you are in the main hotel building itself. At least you...

This hotel was a really bad experience during our stay in Malaysia. Expensive, but old and shabby hotel and rooms. The breakfast was so terrible, we skipped it after trying. We were pushed to visit the New Years Eve party with the resort. The food was terrible, no alkohol and only Karaoke and games for kids. Worst firework ever.
Only visit this hotel, if everything else is booked out.
The only good thing is, that you see Kuah, the town which not many western tourists visit. There are good and cheap restaurants and cheap night markets. But this you can do by a visit from the beaches on half a day.

Well, this hotel is the worst hotel that I have ever stayed at. My family and I were assigned to staying at the "new room". We were really impressed by this so-called "new room". The new rooms are in another building, when we reached the building, we realized that there was no one crew working at the reception counter, no one was working in the lobby. I was wondering who could we call for, if we needed helps. Somemore, there was a strong odour, it irked me. The room that we stayed sucks. I thought we were able to have a sea view by looking through the window, but that is a "corridor views" actually. Luckily, there is a thick curtain. We had the same breakfast everyday, that was nasi lemak. I was wondering if we were actually eating the leftover. This hotel doesn't deserve the titile of four star hotel.

2nd day in and we have a very much improved room, the area around the hotel is still v quiet, with little to do but found a small friendly bar opposite the hotel. Pool is clean and view is very very nice though you need to take a cab to get to a beach. Have heard even worse horror stories about other hotels in the area from people who have moved to De Baron! If you are on a budget and not that fussy then have a look, though the photo's of de baron are misleading and probably taken years ago.
