We really loved temple tree, the decor of the rooms and the friendly cats that roam the place so it was rather disappointing that our visit (for our wedding the next day) was ruined with the lost of my phone within the private premises of the Bonton restaurant.
This was our second time around after our first visit in April 2012 over Easter, first time we stayed at Colonial 2, this time for our wedding, we stayed at the Black and White House. I must agree with everyone else here that Temple tree and Bonton are both superb places to visit and stay but just be extra careful with your things and don't take for granted that it is private place.
We were staying at the Temple Tree that evening with some friends and we had arranged for a private gathering at the Stilt house the night before for 30 of our closest friends. My phone was left behind after the party, we went back first thing the next morning at 6am thinking that it would either still be there or kept by the staff but what we got in return was that no one had seen a phone there. It did dampen my spirits the next day when our day started early with some wedding photos at the Black and White house. Given where Temple Tree is located and that it was a private party till the restaurant closed, It was extremely disappointing that my phone was taken. Given the price level of the hotel and how we were greeted at the Hotel and Bonton, we were really hoping that the staff would have came after us with the phone when we left for the walk back to Temple Tree or at least kept the phone for us till the next day.
So just a word of caution, just be careful around the area.

Room Tip: beware of your belongings. do not trust the smiley faces.

we were travelling with our 5 year old daughter and our request of additional bed was confirmed (complimentary) to us two weeks before our check in. Staff were very welcoming, they made us fresh juice on arrival and personally took us to the room & showed us the amenities. We simply loved the room decoration, indeed very different from any 4-5 star conventional hotel room.

the continental breakfast was big enough to last for breakfast & afternoon tea. the grounds & pool were lush and kids friendly (lots of lawn & pool toys). the resort is also a stray cat refuge which our girl loved as she ended up making a kitten (azora) her friend :) the houses were not sealed so every night you need to mosquito-proof but all the sprays, coils etc were provided by temple tree. On check out day, hotel management gave us favor, as we had flight in evening, they moved our luggage to their most premium villa (chineas) Overall, 5 stars for unique setup and amazing service!

What a home from home :) my only wish is that I could have stayed here longer. The room, plantation room, was so great, modern, clean and such attention to detail with colour schemes. You can be at one with nature in this resort which is a also an animal sanctuary, lots of friendly kitties strolling around and even JJ the friendly rescue dog :) the staff are so friendly an helpful - they went over and beyond to help me find a lost item. I can dream of coming back to Langkawi and this resort again :)

Temple tree is a fantastic place if you are looking for something special with local character. Staff are super friendly and very helpful. They gave us great tips for tours, restaurants, booked taxis for us etc.
We felt however that it was a bit pricey given the rooms, bathrooms, breakfast etc are actually quite basic.
The restaurant The Straits Club is definitely worth trying out, and not too expensive (especially the wine dinner)

We stayed in the vintage Temple Tree for a long weekend. The first impression when you get there is that you travelled in time back in 20's...The atmosphere is so peaceful, quiet and time is even slowing down at the rhythm of animals and insects noise...
The different houses are perfectly maintained in a vintage fashion. The rooms are huge and clean and nicely decorated, you instantly feel like home. And the staff is very nice, which was a little surprise to me as I'm usually disappointed by service in Malaysia... Definitely a must stay...oh and yes you got to love animals as there's a shelter and lots of lovely cats around (I was glad to know that part of the benefice are given to the shelter). Yes go there!
