It was a good experience... However there are many tour operators, eho charge something from 80 to 130 RM per person for the trip. If you are more than 4 person I would suggest you go upto the jetty and charter a speedboat, they charge something like 450 Rm for 3 hours journey. It is actually a winding river trip which ends with a swim in the sea. There are floating restaurants where you get good seafood from the days catch.

One thing though it is a Mangrove, one cannot expect the same flora and fauna as found in the sundarbans. It is more of a Commercial establishment than nature, As you will not find any other animals apart from..... Monkeys and a few eagles (they come for the food thrown from the boat) There is a crocodile cave but no crocodiles. However the journey itself is very good. However carry your own snacks and water as there is none inside the boats

We first researched by asking around Langkawi town tour companies and hotel recommended tour. We chose the hotel's recommendation, but negotiated directly with the tour guide company, agreeing upon the tour duration and price, what to see and where to go.

We chose the 5 hour tour which included lunch on a floating restaurant, and a private charter boat for just the two of us and a local guide. A bit pricey but if you are doing it once, do it right.

We were taken to view the Andaman coast, some out-of-the way, semi-deserted islands and walked along a mud-path on mangrove "land", toured the river banks to watch monkeys fishing for their meal, walked into a bat cave to see the bats and the limestone formations, saw some marine life (like monitor lizards and all sorts of fishes), fed fishes swimming in the Andaman sea and in the inland water-ways, fed the eagles, visited a fish farm and feeding sting ray, and lunched at a floating restaurant.

Our guide was well-versed in the local marine life, the fauna and flora that were shown to us. He also took us to visit a local fishing family going about their daily chores. He spoke fluent English and answered all our questions, and had a great sense of humour which made the tour an enjoyable one with lots of laughter and fun. It was altogether an unforgetable learning experience.

1) Choose your tour guide/company carefully, ask all the questions you need to ask before you agree on the price and the tour programme. Make sure they agree to defer tour if it is a rainy day, or possibility to get refund for cancellation in case you cannot make it for one reason or another.

2) Do not pay 100% up-front. We agreed to pay 10% upon signing, and the rest after the tour.

3) Go on a bright and sunny day - best to start latest mid-morning ( to be on time for eagle feeding). Tour guide must agree to cancel or go another day if it rains on that day.

4) Best not to get into a boat with people you do not know - you are spending more time in a narrow and small space in a boat, under a hot sun, so make life easy for yourself and loved ones.

5) Make sure the boat is sea-worthy. Our boat has life-jackets (which are in good condition) in case for safety purposes.

it's something that you need to do at least once in your life :D

gotta see one of Malaysia's mangrove site. went into the bat cave.. which quite well-maintained, couple of my friends were chased back into the cave by the monkeys there. eheh

we enjoyed most the 'speed' boat ride up to the open sea. and of course the eagle feeding.

without the mangrove tour, the visit to langkawi would have been incomplete. we took a boat to visit the fish farms, bat caves, eagle feeding. enjoyed the boat ride most.

We had great fun. There are several options available but we chose Dev's Adventure Tours. It was a bit more costly than others but we got excellent value for money. The trip took us around 5 hours. We were picked up from our hotel by the tour company at 09:30 am and came back around 03:00 pm. We learned a lot from our tour guide Mr. Salva who was very passionate about his work. We saw the bat cave, explored the mangrove on a track less explored by other tour parties, saw birds and snakes, went to a fish farm, saw eagle feeding enjoyed some time on a remote beach and had prawns and chicken with rice for lunch.

It was a trip to remember and highly recommended for anyone visiting Langkawi.
