“Overrated reviews!”
Reviewed July 13, 2014

We are frequent travellers to Langkawi and this time around my husband's niece and her husband came along with us. At the airport, as usual, we were handed maps and places of interest to see and in the midst of all these, was a photostat copy of reviews in Tripadvisor on Pia's The Padi, which we haven't been before. I called and made a reservation for four pax for dinner and we drove there. The signage was quite small and off the main road in Ulu Melaka. My heart sank as we arrived there, it wasn't well maintained and weeds were overgrown in the planter boxes. Jimmy, the owner and chef came to inform us that there was no menu as he has a package that costs RM75, which includes free flow of drinks from his drink menu. We are Malaysians, basically what he serves is Indian curries, to us his curries are nothing to shout about! We have curries that are so much tastier than what he serves and we aren't charged the exorbitant price that he charges and we definitely won't be forced to take a package! We can deduced that he cooks these few items only and the guests are 'advised' to take the package! The only thing I can give credit to this place is the sunset view and the free flow of drinks! We weren't impressed, in fact we felt short changed and we definitely won't be back to this restaurant. Please note that there is a 10% service charge as well and he takes cash only.

“Memorable dining experience”
Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

Wow. We loved this place! Picturesque setting, lovely hosts and a relaxing delicious meal. Jimmy recommended we try a set menu with drinks included and we were not disappointed. The kids played cards while we sipped and watched the sun set. Tasty entrees followed by curries to die for. Fresh , full of flavor and quite simply as good as they get. Tip - take cash as no credit card facilities. Some meals are truly memorable and this was one. Worth the 20 minute taxi from the Westin. Don't miss it.

“Best meal in Langkawi!”
Reviewed July 4, 2014 via mobile

We read the reviews and decided to try and find Pia's the Padi for dinner. While it is a short drive (20 mins from our hotel) we were so glad we did. Great host (Jimmy) suggested some dishes to try from his extensive menu while we watched the sun set over the Padi fields and distant mountains. This was a standout meal after living in Malaysia for four years. We will definitely try and get back again!

“Brilliant food and relaxing atmosphere”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

Definitely worth finding, we had a fantastic meal and drinks overlooking the rice padi's. Saw the sign on the road while travelling around the island and thought we would stop. Extremely happy we did, best Beef Rendang and curries we've had. When we were thinking about a spinach curry and then decided against it as we had tried a couple recently already, Jimmy took it as a challenge and made us his version. It was beautiful and by far the best. Great place, highly recommended.

“A relaxing lunch amidst lush padi fields”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

We almost missed the turning into the tiny lane leading to Pia's the Padi but saw the signpost just in time. Driving down from Tanjong Rhu to Ulu Melaka about 5-10 min after the Gunung Raya turning, the turning to the restaurant is on the right side of the road.

On this weekday during the off-peak season, we were the only guests in the restaurant and Jimmy simply decided what dishes to cook for us after checking with us whether we had any dietary preferences (no... not really...) and how much spice the adults would like (we indicated a spice rating of 3 out of a 10 point scale). The next 20 minutes or so was spent soaking in the surroundings while waiting for the food which turned out to be: beef rendang, fish curry (a creamy kind of masala), butter chicken and vegetables, all accompanied by a generous serving of rice and crackers which my two girls (6 and 8) devoured. The food was well-done and reminded me of the curries I had in the UK. We rounded up the meal with a mango Lassi and the home-made chocolate cake and ice-cream (total cost approx. RM180). Overall, a most memorable and enjoyable meal. Those with children may want to bring insect repellent considering the location.
