“Penang to Langwaki: Easy boat ride - don't know what the complaints are about”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

Firstly let me start by saying this is not a five star cruise liner so if you want that go on a cruise! This is a ferry.

Easy to board, quite comfortable seats and YES you can go and sit top deck and take in the views and sights. The seas are not rough and no seasickness was in sight on a full ferry!!! We did take the 8.30 departure as it was express from Penang to Langkawi.

For anyone who has done some traveling before this boat ride is a sinch. If you are really worried about te seas being rough/sea sickness, go to a pharmacy and for $2 AUD you can buy sea sickness tablets that will ensure you are fine.

No smell of vomit, no smell of petrol fumes. Honestly I wonder if the reviews I read about this ferry ride were written by premadonnas.

Definately would recommend as an easy and safe and even comfortable was of traveling. Much easier than going to airport and flying PLUS sitting up top with a purchased cup of noodles and a drink made the journey a memory to remember. There were many others with us up top taking pictures and looking at the beautiful views.

If you want to sit its setup like an aero plane below with rows of seats and a video playing. Easy if you want to get some rest. Overall I would definately so this ferry ride again. To those worried after the other reviews - don't be!!! It's easy and a good trip ;)

“Budget Transportation for the Budget Traveller”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Langkawi ferry transportation is one of two methods for the common tourist to visit Langkawi. The other is by plane. There are four routes the ferry takes to reach Langkawi and each one varies considerably based on the condition of the sea and weather, thus opinions may vary. The four routes include Penang, Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis and Satun.

The route that I took often is from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi. Cost per head is RM 23 one way and RM 46 both ways for adults. Kids per head costs RM 17 for one way and RM 34 for both ways. The trip from Kuala Kedah to Langkawi is at most always uneventful for me save for the occasional lightheadedness when the seas get a bit rough. For the sole encouragement, I hardly witness any seasickness amongst the passengers involved, so really it's not much of a worry. A tip or two though, try to travel during the day time, and not towards the evening when the seas are known to be rougher due to the stronger winds.

As always, certain ferries are in better condition than others and depending on the schedule of the day, it is never possible to choose the better one. Thus, it all boils down on luck. There are also no first class seats available for all the ferries, but at least, there are toilets in them. Food can be purchased off the jetty point on both destinations.

“Scary, not for ppl with sea sickness”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

I reached my destination (penang) safely but the 3 hour ferry was not for the light hearted ppl and also for the ppl who get sea sick. Yes its the most convenient way to go to penang but not the safest.

“From A to B”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The ferry from Penang to Langkawi isn't bad. The seats are comfortable and passengers are provided with vomit bags, which may come in handy if you're prone to seasickness.
The trip normally takes 3 hours but ours took just over 4. Recommend you get to the ferry terminal 40 minutes ahead of departure time (it leaves at 8:30) as there is a queue and getting there earlier will give you the opportunity of choosing seats in the back, which apparently is slightly less bumpy.
Note that there is not much space for luggage, so we had to keep ours in the aisle.
Recommend you keep expectations low: Think local bus, not plane in terms of comfort and facilities. Also recommend you bring headphones and music (to drown out the sound of people gagging-on our trip they were going down like dominos).
