Sunset Valley Holiday Houses

Can only add to previous entries to say it is all true, this is a slice of paradise. So beautiful and peaceful and the kind, helpful and welcoming owners make your stay so comfortable.
We stayed in 2 of the houses during our stay and each was special in it's own way. I am sure that whichever house you have you will be thrilled.
Recommend the Lighthouse restaurant in idyllic setting on the beach and the food is good. We also ate at the closest local restaurant which was basic but fabulous food and so cheap. Our favourite beach was Pantai Pasir Tengkorak which was the only beach that had no jellyfish we found. It is also well used by locals which is also encouraging, you can enjoy watching the monkeys play while you sunbathe and crystal clear waters to swim in.

Me and my husband stayed in Sunset Valley for two weeks. Trip to Langkawi was planned long before our weddings, but one can consider it as a honeymoon as well. Why & for whom Sunset Valley?
* Quality-price ratio: oustanding. The next best option would be 500$ per night Four Seasons resort, I think.
* Location: in the middle of the island, but with motorbike or car reachable every corner of the island within 15-20min. Roads are OK. Good location, surrounded by paddy-fields, mountains in the distance. Local food-stalls within 5 min drive (v e r y cheap and good local food, don´t mind the shabby appearance; food is really tasty!)
* Perfect accommodation even for cleanliness-lovers. Holiday houses are self-maintained during your stay (cleaning-service is optional, I guess), so it depends how clean you want to keep it. As it is in the middle of nature, better keep it tidy, otherwise nature might send the cleaners do it for you (cockroaches or somebody else). We kept it clean and n o hassle with any bugs. Tiny ants, though, are common everywhere. But it´s Asia, hot & tropical.
* Quiet and relaxed. I couldn´t imagine staying, say, somewhere in Pantai Cenang (dirty beach! trash everywhere).
* Hosts Ria & Andre are very nice & friendly people. If one likes European attitude & good quality, then that´s the place to be. Again, the whole territory is well-maintained.
* Also ideal for honeymooners, and just couples.
* Nice pool. If you want to have a nice beach, then go to Tanjung Rhu beach. Depopulated, quiet, paradise-like.

I´d recommend Sunset Valley for everybody!

We arrived for a short break from work in Singapore and were able to instantly relax. We have been to Langkawi many times before but always to a luxury beachside resort. This was a fabulous alternative and a great base to get out and see more of what langkawi really has to offer. The Sunset Valley rooms are spotless, the neighbouring surrounds a calm rural environment, nearby are eateries with delicious local specialties (try Siti Fatimahs near the hospital and Roti Canai near the accommodation). Steer clear of Kuah town for anything other than stocking up on cheap wine and a foot massage at '5 Senses". Dinner at BonTon is a must and so is the sublime sunset cruise on Ria and Andre's (hosts) boat. Delightful all round. Nothing to fault the experience. And the hosts are genuinely caring, fun and kind. - PS - car hire is highly recommended so you can scootle about with ease and see it all.

A beautifully designed place in the heart of Langkawi, sunset valley is set amidst the mountains with stunning views all around. It provides traditional Malaysian houses for it guests which are all unique in character and size. Perfect if you want a romantic and peaceful holiday but ideally located if you wish to explore the magic of the island. My husband and I spent our honeymoon here and could not have dreamed of a more suitable place. The owners of sunset valley are extremely friendly and welcoming. They accommodate for all their guests needs and have great knowledge of the island. I cannot put into words how special this place is.... Thank you Andre and Ria for memories we will never forget.

I'll write this while the memory is still fresh in my mind. You can be met at the airport by the charming owner Ria and whisked to the holiday homes in about 10 minutes (recommended instead of taxi). First impressions are visually stunning and it only gets better. The view over the padi fields to the mountains is awesome, and the houses themselves are like from a magazine of your dream tropical escape home. Traditional wooden Malay houses with all mod cons necessary blended seamlessly with the wooden structures, with maintenance and upkeep top priority (rare in Malaysia sadly). We stayed in the 2 bedroom Forest House and perhaps the highlight of our holiday was actually relaxing on the veranda listening to the birds (we even saw two hornbills) in the early morning coolness, and chatting to the owners dogs who visited us daily to chill out. Our teenage daughters were able to keep their Facebook blogs up to date thanks to the free wi-fi. We were also able to read about the big freeze in the UK and be grateful we were in Langkawi. There's a great wee pool with quality loungers, and a trust based beer and wine supply plus same with some basic foodstuffs if you can be bothered cooking. You will need a car. The property has 2 or 3 vehicles to hire and they are as good as any hire car company cars, if not as young, but with better insurance. Petrol is ridiculously cheap. Take the 10y old Hyundai Coupe if your body still agile enough to swing into the low set seats.

The clear blue morning we left was sad - wish we'd had another day just to read a book, take a swim, have a nap and then maybe drive to town for a meal and sunset at Pantai Cenang. On the beach after dark you may find good live music. Check out Tanjung Rhu beach also - one of the most beautiful views in the world. I hope I can come back one day. Thanks Ria.
