Location on the beach, a drive away from the main street. Service bit slow . Breakfast buffet was just good enough.rooms not so up to date and the bed sheets look bit outdated. Loved the beach and the view from there.

In April 2014 my partner and I along with our daughter travelled to Pulau Langkawi for a seven day holiday. We decided to stay at the Federal Villa Beach Resort in Pentai Tengah, in two deluxe rooms, where we had stayed before in 2010 although at the time we had thought the accommodation needed serious upgrading. The decision was influenced by the location, on a beautiful stretch of beach, and even more importantly the easy accessibility to a variety of café/restaurants on the road to Pantai Cenang. We had read that the resort facilities had been upgraded to include an additional infinity pool and restaurant so we were hopeful that things had changed however on viewing our rooms we realised that our optimism had been misplaced. At this point it’s probably important to explain that the resort consists of two areas, Holiday Villas Beach Resort which is the main hotel building and Federal Villas Beach Resort consisting of two/three story buildings located in the grounds. All are fully en-suite rooms. Our ground floor room had a dark unsavoury carpet, a dated shower room with a broken shower head and wooden sliding doors to a balcony that, when latched left a significant gap, open to the vegetation outside. There were quite a few flying insects inside the room and it was clear that the hotel knew of this problem as they had provided an electronic anti-mosquito device. We stayed in the room that night but felt that we couldn’t spend another six nights there. Now we are used to dealing with mosquitos but felt that the amount of insects in the room was excessive. The following morning we spoke to one of the hotel managers, I believe that he was called “Alan” who very quickly understood our plight and upgraded us to two rooms on the top floor of the Holiday Villas area. What a difference this was, a hygienic light coloured wooden floor, a modern shower room and glass sliding doors that sealed to the outside when closed. From this point on there was no problems with the accommodation. Our room rate did not include breakfast as we knew that there was a particularly good café, The Cactus, just outside the gates of the resort. However the breakfast on offer in the resort looked appetising and there was certainly plenty of customers. I suppose it all boils down to how much you’re willing to pay and if you need your surroundings to be a bit more palatial. The restaurants and cafes on the road from the resort to Pentai Cenang include Malay, Chinese, Indian and Italian so the location of the resort is ideal for those who like to eat somewhere different, within walking distance, every night . When the tide is right you can walk from the resort along the beach to Pentai Cenang. It does mean a little bit of paddling but it’s probably a more romantic way of getting there. On the way you pass a restaurant called “Sugars”, right on the beach, where the food and cocktails are excellent and the sunset view, one of the best on the Island. You need to book for the best viewing tables. People who visited Langkawi a few years ago will probably remember it being called “The Lighthouse”. A couple of additional points are worth noting with regards to Holiday Villas/Federal Villas. Use of the new Infinity pool area, it does have nice loungers, will cost you around RM 25 per day as a hotel guest. If you need Wi-Fi will have to pay for it. This seems a bit stingy as lots of cafes provide it for free. There is a small cafe/bar on the beach but it is not a particularly attractive building and it seems to be operated without a great deal of enthusiasm unlike other resort beach bars. The staff at the resort were friendly and helpful, especially those at the front entrance, and although we like the location, is probably time to try somewhere else on the next visit to Langkawi. We will miss breakfast at the Cactus, though. The grading on this review is based only on our stay in the Holiday Villas rooms. To include our time in the Federal Villas rooms would have reduced it significantly.

Room Tip: Give Federal Villas rooms a miss until they're upgraded. Although you have to pay to access the...

Dear M/M 33JohnMcC,

Thank you for your review on Holiday Villa Langkawi pertaining to your recent visit here.
We are grateful to your frank review on both Federal Villa and Holiday Villa Langkawi.

Indeed there is a difference between Federal Villa and Holiday Villa Langkawi. Guest’s facilities are located at Holiday Villa Langkawi and are shared with Federal Villa in house guests. Federal Villa rooms are chalet or individual room in 06 different blocks and where as Holiday Villa rooms are all located under 01 roof with more modern facilities in comparison to Federal Villa.

We are glad our Holiday Villa Langkawi has lived up to your expectation.

Mosquito is really rampant especially during the raining months in Langkawi due to its many beautiful rain forests contributing to its breeding. Hence the hotel has taken the initiative to provide the electrical repellent in our guest’s room.

Once again thank you for all you valuable feedback as it enables us to identify different ways to exceed our customers’ expectations.
Hope to welcome you back in the near future. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly at admin@lgkhvl.com should you need to make a reservation.

Warm regards,

Checked into the hotel next door, The Lanai. Immediately checked out. Although extremely busy, the staff at the Holiday Villa made us welcome until they could find a room for us. The room, including breakfast, was wonderful. I cannot thank Allan the duty manager enough plus the all staff who took really good care of us. Even their "Mr Bond" comments and jokes made us laugh each day (we had room Number 007). Thank You Holiday Villa Langkawi for a wonderful week.

Room Tip: Don't book the hotel next door. All rooms in the Holiday Villa are value for money, ground floo...

We checked in late at the hotel and once we got to the room door, it couldn't be opened. I went to the reception and someone came to open the door. He asked us to inform the reception the next morning about this issue only to find out the we were given the wrong key the night before. The room itself is good however looking rather old.

The hotel has a great pool and a jacuzzi alongside a private beach that gives a beautiful view of the sunset and the surrounding islands. The lobby looks great but tends to have a ventilation issue in the afternoon as it gets very hot. Staffs are friendly however some seem to be poor in English but we were fine as we understand and speak the Malay language. Flies sitting on fruits which went unnoticed by the hotel staff during breakfast.

Outside the hotel, there are bike renting facilities that may be convenient to some travelers. Pantai Cenang is quite far to walk (around 15 min) but it's well worth the visit to that place.

In short, amazing beach and pool but average rooms.

The hotel location and it's surrounding itself bring the luxury looks and feel. The lobby , the dining area , the sunset bar and tropical beach bar is superb. The room that I stayed is Deluxe room , very clean and bathroom size is quite big. The best of all is it's personal beach, what a romantic moment to stroll along the beach while watching the sunset!there is a sign of jellyfish existence but don't worry it's seasonal.

we had a short vacation recently with my family, i have to say, the location is very very good, Langkawi main attraction should be along pantai cenang with street night market, night clubs, good food and etc.

My rate for this hotel:

Room : 3/5 = its clean but very very ageing design, what i like about the room is that, they have a huge space, quite relaxing couch.
Toilet : 2/5 = The hot shower is the only plus point here, toilet floor is uneven which makes a puddle of water (it can be very slippery).
Hotel Lobby : 4/5 = Love the design, its old skewl but well maintain
Breakfast food : 3/5 = its just plain average.
Hotel Facility : 4/5 = Big pool area is good, and the maintenance is pretty decent.
Infinity pool : 3.5/5 = it comes with a cost, a new pool, great view and a complimentary soft drink, or selected drinks (its nice, but if you can afford to skip this).
Hotel Stuff : 3/5 = just average.
Hotel Price : 2.5 = over price

I personally enjoyed my stay.. Food wasn't supper but acceptable. Beach is nice and the pool needs some renovation but still is ok
Room had few bugs but it didn't bother us a lot..
My suggestion it's worth the money only if ur not spending ur time at the hotel. There are lots of stuff to do there. Rent a scooter and discover the island.
