Visited the Island twice during the last 5 months. It's just a quick 3 hours drive away (including border crossing) from Singapore to Mersing and another 25mins on the speed boat. Beach with the 2 slides provide endless entertainment for the children. Since the beach itself is not very long, it's easy to keep an eye on your child at all times or if they're older, you can let them rohm around by themselves. Meals in the restaurant are average and may become a little boring after 3 days. Snacks, drinks and ice cream bars are available for purchase, but they're expensive. If you bring your own wine and would like to keep it refrigerated in the bar, they charge you a corkage fee.
Accommodation is good, both times we stayed at a Waterfront Sea breeze and Coral Garden bungalows. We had no trouble with the water supply or the A/C, everything was working fine. You can see wonderful fish right from your balcony and enjoy the sunset from your patio. Both times we stayed there we found that the sound of crashing waves were pretty loud at night, but truth to be told, we were there during the rainy season (end of Nov 2012 and mid Feb 2013) and experienced some great storms during our stay.
We had no particular expectations the first time we visited, so we were not disappointed, but pleasantly surprised. My kids have enjoyed themselves very much and are still wanting to return so I'm sure we'll be back again soon.
Ps: Wi-Fi available around the lobby and in the restaurant, download speed is good enough, but upload speed is very SLOW.

I stayed for a week in October in a beachfront chalet. The pier that takes you over from the mainland is a little rough around the edges, but all is forgotten when the island comes in to view.

The beach is the best I've seen anywhere, even better than in Bora Bora or the Cooks. Very white and very very soft - I told the manager he should get someone to come check it out because I reckon it could win some awards. Compared to the Pacific islands this place is a steal - though I never would have found it without a recommendation which makes me think it's only cheap because people don't know about it.

Food was good and varied and the service excellent. I liked the idea of not having to walk around with a wallet and just signing everything and paying at the end. A lot of families and a big water slide on the pier so if you don't like kids it might not be your thing.

The snorkelling is great - lots and lots of fish and coral just a few metres in to the water. I still can't get over how great the beach is.

We were there from Apr-24 for 3 nights. It was awesome, beautiful beaches and so much colors in the landscape. The services can be improved and foods are okay although the chef should come up with more varieties. Most of the guest are with families, we reckon that the resort can organize local cultural show to keep the children occupied.

Room Tip: We stayed at the hillside chalet but if you could, opt for the beach or water chalet. If you have ch...

We heard good stories about Rawa, but we had a different experience. We reserved the boat at 12noon, but when we arrived at 11.30 the boat just left. I heard later that the boat was already full with travellers who were too late for the boats before. Result: we had to wait for 5 hours as the tide was too low after that. We had to pay/arrange our own lunch costs, nothing was offered. When we arrived on the island at 18.15 we got a room with 2 "super single" beds instead of 2 twin beds (we were with 4). When we complained, the manager first promised another room the day after as well as a refund because we lost a day, incl. lunch. But to our surprise, the day after, he refused to do anything, nor did we get refund. If we did not like that, we could take the boat back. And he did not care if we would give negative feedback on Tripadvisor (we did not even think of that, but thanks for the tip). So, beautiful Island, good food, beach houses not good value for money, but most of all: terrible service.

We had a fantastic 1-night stay at this resort: White sand, Nice beach, and nice people. Food was okay as the drinks we're a little bit overpriced, but all in all it was a great stay. Perfect short getaway from Singapore.

I just went recently to Rawa Island for a long weekend together with my family. I heard already serveral years from many people good things about Rawa. We planned to go there since many years but so far we never have done it.! What shall I say.......wow ....such an Island so near to Singapore.... I really never expected that.......! Fantastic place for kids and parents. The Beach ,the water ,the colours....just incredible! Accomodation is simple but ok but you anyhow do not stay there much in the house! Now I can undertand why so many people from Singapore are going to Rawa year by year and I will be one of them in the future too.

Overall a beautiful place, incredible waters with coral still full of life.
For a small place, there are a few things to do.
The view never gets boring, either from the shores or up at the viewpoint.
Unfortunately, this place does pack a big price tag, and it is hard to take when you have to pay 22RM for a can of Tiger Beer!

All in all a place I would highly recommend, perfect for groups of friends and ideal for families. If you don't believe me, just wait till you wake up, open the doors to your room and see that view of the sea. EPIC!
