What a wonderful experience, food good, beach fantastic, staff very friendly, the only disappointment was the hillside room we had was a bit damp. You could smell it on the pillows on the bed and it needed a bit of tlc on the paintwork.Apart from that what a great time.

Room tip: Pay a bit more and stop in a better room

Fantastic snorkeling right in front of the hotel, during low tide even non.swimmers can literally walk in the sea to see "Nemo" at 1 m depth. Plenty of activities like ocean kayaks, volleyball, trampoline, climg the hill to watch sunset or sunrise. We took 3rd floor Frangipanni villa that was spacious, very satisfactory for 2 adults and 2 kids (5 + 10 years old), nice view over the ocean, private and silent. Not recommendable for very small kids as you need to climg steep stairs to the third floor. You just need to walk about 7 minutes from the restaurant but along nice landscape it was a pleasure. Ocean villas look great too. Food was a big surprise compared to other Malaysian facilities. Very high European standard (the chef spent many years in Switzerland - this is why!). Ferry takes only 25 minutes.

Room tip: Frangipanni villa 3rd floor for family with kids over 4 years, ocean front villa for family with small kids (below 3).

Thing no. 1: beach and corals, absolutely wonderful! However, you can find these on neighbouring islands too, so one would imagine that this resort would make its everything on backing up the image that they sell. Sadly, this is not the case. After rather long period of island hopping the convincer was missed on rawa. We stayed there during off-season, end of september. Greatest difference for other places we stayed was the state of rooms. Amenities were not plenty, but enough and working. Big plus for western style matress. No hot shower regardless of heater in room. Service is ok for any other comparable place. Though forceably uttered first name addressing might did annoy some, we found it rather amusing. Rawa Safaries Resort is clearly targeted for families. Food choices are copy of english pub or german b&b, namely to hit few resemblants. If you have any food allergies, be causious! Also the buffet style is closer to first come first served as half an hour prior to end of serving no more food was served... Ok, if you are impressed by omelet stand, just make sure its fully cooked. Egg mixture under sunshine for two hours started to get flies around. But enough for the rant about food, its time for price. Prices do match central london, singapore, helsinki or moscow. On the other hand, selection of wines is reasonable. 0.4 litre beer takes 14,5 RM plus 6 % tax plus 10 % service fee making 3.6 quids or 4.4 euros, when on shore its only 3,5-4RM.
In general to anwers the topics question, it is exactly what you get bearing in mind that you are able to overcome the food and safety issue. Sea is still azure, beach white. They even have a waterslide big enough for fathers too. When snorkling one should pay attention to low tide as corals are sharp. You'll probably enjoy the fun for normal package time of two nights, but for longer time it'll turn boring. For divers I'll recommend Tioman island, for couples Pulau Besar would suite better and Tinggi for every one. If you require enough space for one self yet beautiful surroundings, Tioman Beryayat is your choice. Rawa gives you that boutique feeling with relaxed atmosphere with a price tag. The transportation issue is important. Just accept you'll probably have to wait hour or two as boat two rawa takes max 12 pax at time and one-way-run takes 30 min. And don't ask for bigger boat as then soon you'll have no corals next to peer or anywhere. Even now there is clear breakage on the reef and I sincerely wish the management would not follow easy buck in this matter.

Room tip: Rooms at northern end tend to be more quiet, but this resort is much less densily built than others nearby, so give it go. Beach front is really beach front, but even in hillside you hear sea. If you don't like it, don't go on an island, 'cause sea and wind are there 365/year.

A group of friends spent 4 days at the resort and loved it ... White sand, pristine waters, all the fish you hope to see and a very relaxed atmosphere. No pressure, no crowds ... We spent many lazy afternoons sleeping on a hammock ... Interrupted only by the sound of lapping waves and the occasional sound of the laughter of children ... Waking up only to walk into the sea for a snorkel ... And then strolling to the cabana for a drink ... Breeze, soft music and a wonderful sunset. You will love it ... Food was ok and rooms are ok ... But do not expect 4 star ... It was more like 3 star BUT let's just ay that the the sea and the sea more than made up for it. I have been to many islands in the region ... This was really nice .. We are already planning to return.

Room tip: We were in the rooms with a garden view ... We won't recommend these rooms. Try the sae view ones.

we spent 3 nights on Rawa island. the beach is amazing and its great to snorkel (we saw nemos!!! not dory though sadly) the rooms are basic (bed, toilet with proper flush, cold shower) but its all very clean and tidy. the staff is very friendly and helpful. on the homepage it said that its partytime on weekends and peace and quiet on weekdays, but when we were there (tuesday - thursday) there was a group of 15 people, all locals, and all they did was being very loud and dancing the night away (every night until 4am. we were unlucky i guess. nevertheless i would definately go back, if only to find dory :-)

Room tip: they charge per room, so the more people stay in one room, the cheaper it gets.
