“Best of the Worst”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

If you really need to stay the night in Mersing, Timotel would be the "best' judging by the other available options in this town.
Need some serious upgrading to the rooms and facilities. We were allocated 2 rooms on the first floor. One room had a bathtub so badly stained while the second room's bathrub looked almost brand new. Hope the hotel is in the midst of an upgrading program to replace bathtubs......
Rooms smelled stale and musty and cleanliness is suspect. Thankfully we stayed only for about 7 hours in order to catch the 5.30am ferry to Tioman. And bring your own towels!!!
Otherwise location is good, walking distance to KFC, 7-11 across the hotel, petrol station right next door. Big plus: hotel allows you to park at the premises till you return from Tioman.
For those who are not familiar with Mary Brown's Famous Chicken, its just down a side street from KFC. Much better than KFC and much shorter Q.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with "new bathtub"

The hotel is not itself a destination but rather a good overnight stay if you are heading for Tioman Island. The room are spacious and quite clean, though terribly run down and rather poorly equipped. Bathroom are drab but clean so it's a big plus. No cockroaches or other insects.

The staff is extremely nice and helpful.

Nothing super here. It was a place to stay for one night in order to get the next early ferry to Tioman Island. The staff were very friendly (we generally found all Malaysian Staff very polite and good humoured) and the place was ok. It was quite old fashioned and could do with most things (tv, lighting, bathroom) being updated. Our room was located next to the central air conditioning unit and it was very noisy during the night. However, as previous reviewer said "it is what it is". It is a good effort in a not so spectacular town. Location is a bit away from the ferry (appr. 20 min. walk). However, the hotel provides complementary transfer to the terminal (don't forget to arrange it at reception).

Room Tip: Avoid room next to central air conditioning unit.

Located just after the bridge on the way to Endau and Pahang. It's rooms are clean and cozy. Food is quite okay. Room rates comes with a complimentary breakfast. It has Astro channels and parking spaces for guests. No swimming pool though. But it's walking distance to the bus station as well as food eateries in the town area.

We stayed at this hotel to attend cousin's wedding at Mersing...the whole big family occupied almost the whole floor of the hotel...my wife and I got 1 room to ourselves and looking by at this hotel, we were quite surprise with the size of the room...it was surprisingly spacious...it had all the basic amenities...bed was okay...overall we were satisfied with the stay at that hotel...breakfast was average...sufficient enough to kickstart the day...location wise, it was a good 5 minutes drive to anywhere, convenience store, hypermarket, food stalls, restaurants, bus station, you name it...probably coz Mersing is just a small town and given that the hotel was quite at the center of the town, it was quite strategic...and i forgot to mention, the rates are very reasonable...please don't expect too much of this hotel as it is in the 2 star hotel category...

Pros:
- Strategic location
- Basic amenities
- Free wifi
- Spacious room
- Value for money

Cons:
- It's time to refurbish the rooms
- No proper covered parking for hotel guests

Mersing is a non-descript town - it's simply a gateway to Tioman and the Timotel is an ok place to overnight if you need to before catching the ferry to the island. The rooms are old, but clean, and the staff are friendly. If you don't expect much then you won't be disappointed!

This hotel is average. Nothing spectacular but it does serves on basic needs.

Room is clean but the toilet is a little run down. Air conditioning. water pressure and hot water is working well.

I did not sleep on the bed but on a foldable one so no comments on that.

The TV is not working but we just need to sleep for a night so I could not be bothered.

Staff is helpful and breakfast is fine but prepared to takes spicy stuff.

As I am proceeding to Pulau Tioman next morning, this is a good jump off point.
