“Great stay nice breaks”
Reviewed February 28, 2014 via mobile

We spent a night at the Bluewave hotel had a great stay, bit away from the shops or city but had great views of Singapore and also better area away from the trouble areas. Hotel facilities were great and staff v friendly

Well, it depends on what you are staying in JB for. If it is your hopping point to Singapore, then the hotel’s is in a pretty good location as it’s very close to the custom and causeway. However, there’s really nothing in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, though it is somewhat compensated with a convenient store inside the hotel itself. You would need to have transport to go anywhere nearby, even to City Square mall which can be seen from the hotel. Legoland is less than 30min drive away so that’s good.

The hotel has a rather presentable lobby and check in was smooth. Remember to ask the front desk staff for a parking voucher if you drove, as it was conveniently overlooked during my check in. There are four lifts so you never have to wait too long for one. The studio room that we booked was spacious, clean and decently appointed, and the twin super single beds were comfortable. Basic amenities in the room as usual with flat screen TV, kettle and mini fridge (with nothing in it of course). One good thing about being in JB is that you get a lot of free-to-air Singapore channels on the tele. The mini safe was not working so I didn’t bother, but one flaw in the room would be the lack of power points. So bring along an expansion plug with you so that you can charge all those mobile devices you can’t live without.

The hotel does seem to be a tad stingy on certain aspects. There was only one towel in the bathroom when I checked in so I called housekeeping to request for a couple more. The reply from the lady was that “we only provide 2 towels per room”, so I got a bit annoyed and demanded it and they obliged nonetheless. To top that off, I had to do the same thing the next day as the housekeeping didn’t even replace the towels from the day before. There’s free in-room WiFi but only for 2 devices, what the…?! Anybody who is a little techie and has the latest devices would be able to get around that, but still… plus it is not that the internet connection is lightning fast anyway, you’ll be better off surfing on your own mobile data plan.

The breakfast provided was quite good though, with a good spread of variety, mostly local with a touch of continental flair… and the chocolate rolls were scrumptious! There’s also a spa, gym and supposedly a swimming pool in the hotel.

All in all, it was a decent stay for a couple of nights, although the experience could’ve been better if the hotel didn’t try so hard to be too calculative.

I got a studio room with a ocean view and view of Singapore at the horizon, and best part is I still got Singapore mobile signals and 4G at my room :). Hotel has free wifi but its very slow and weak and its a good thing that I had SG signals.
Good breakfast and good room service until mid night. Just stayed for 2 days and will go there next time too :)

My father join together during our recent trip to jb... My father's knees not so good as he is suffering from osteoarthritis and this cause him imbalance and difficulty to walk unaided.. However, the toilet floor in the room is too slippery and every time he went to bathroom, my heart skip a beat, afraid if he fall down..luckily he did not...phew
The bed was shacky.. And the room condition need to be refurbish.. Seriously...
The good thing about this hotel is the bellboys are very friendly and helpful.... Hands-up to them.. Congratulation...

Agoda say 5Star..Hotels.com say 3 & half..Mixed review on this hotel..decided to try for 2 night..ok, not actually 5Star, but good enough to earn 4Star rating..arrived 7pm, got superior studio, able to view causeway..sweet !! Rooms large enough for 2ad & 2 teenage..bathtub/toilet clean n neat,,LCD tv with ample channel, microwave too! Simple decoration, nothing flashy..dont need one, actually..n very good price considering staying eve Christman for 2nite..Bfast adequate spread, reasonable..just shud rotate different menu, 2nd day almost carbon copy the first..overall, pleasant stay..If u super fussy 5star hotel type who want spotless mirror-like toilet floor, then pay to Thistle..BUT, if u re not above type, this hotel will serve U just fine !!
