Good - room clean. They allowed us to check in early.

Bad - list is endless
Check in slow. Even have to wait for vouchers for breakfast to be handwritten - took about 20 minutes
Room drab, poor lighting, uncomfortable bed and pillow and this was a premium room. Bathroom needs major update. Old TV with limited channels.
Public areas - worn and tatty.
Lifts - only 3 small lifts to serve 400+ bedroom hotel so have to wait ages
Breakfast - limited choice and who wants pasta in sauce for their breakfast
Dinner - non existent. Website says there is a buffet. Restaurant wasn't even open. Their is a "cafe" which is actually just an extension of the dining room. Very limited choice of food and you can only get soft drinks.

Website inaccuracies - mini bar/fridge in each room - there is nothing in it. Tea and coffee making facilities - no milk provided. Safe deposit box - there isn't one. Daily newspaper - not that we saw. International a la carte - think offering burgers, fish and chips and a couple of local dishes is international a la carte - what a joke.

Bar/karaoke lounge is the only place to get a beer. We had a look and didn't even bother going in. Soulless and noisy, no atmosphere.

During my stay here, the fire drill went on several times during the night. BEing normal reactions as hotel customers, everyone rushed out the room to see if something serious happened. When my friend went to the lobby to speak to the reception, the staff at the counter brushed him off by speaking to someone else on the phone. My concern is, where are the safety measures procedures and why are they being handled so poorly, given that the fire drill rang on the entire night? EVEN if nothing serious was happening, I believe its the customer's right to be informed so. The following day, we found out the real reason to the drill, as the air-con pipes had burst. Here we are sitting in a hot air conditioned room, thanks to the incident. I dont understand why we were not INFORMED or at least given a courtesy notice regarding the air condition, and had only find out that it was not functioning by approaching the reception to inquire. I understand that every now and then things go wrong in hotels, but i believe that there are ways to go about it especially when dealing with the hotel guests. Not to mention, the floor in the restaurant area was really oily in the morning, it was a very uncomfortable experience to skid through the greasy floor while taking my breakfast.

I recently stayed in this hotel as I was traveling to Singapore the next morning. The room that we had was a great size but the cleanliness of the bathroom was not the best. I also had to go up and down to the reception a number of times to get my key card fixed.
If you need to leave early, do not stay here as they only have two elevators and they are jammed in the mornings. After twenty minutes of waiting we decided to take the stairs, with all our baggage ugh

location wise is good since it is as clsoe as possible to the causeway.
however the parking and access to the hotel is something which the management can improve.
likewise with the services at reception counter and housekeeping, need improvement and more courteous with guests.
also trip was made negative with water supply problem the morning after we checked in.

Room Tip: rooms facing singapore looks better. rooms facing north is bigger.

I just got back from JB for a 2D1N trip on business. I went for the New York Hotel as it was the place I stayed in, during my last trip there in 2010.

The location of the hotel is one of my reasons for staying there, as it is at the Dato' Abdullah Tahir cluster of skyscrapers and there are several drinking joints nearby. The Johor Bahru CBD is also only a short 5-10 minute drive away, for more choice of food outlets and there are many malls in close proximity as well (around 15 minutes), including KSL City, Holiday Plaza, Pelangi, and City Square, to name a few.

From my previous stay at the NY, the reception now looks quite tastefully furnished, with speedy check-in and check-out service at the same time - no complaints there. The elevator arrangement must have been changed for safety reasons as well, as I now use one of three glassy elevators to get to the lobby from the car park (previously I could use the room ones), and these are also used to whisk guests to the top floor ballrooms. NY management has also beautified the three other elevators heading to the rooms, although all six are quite cramped and can only fit in a maximum of 8-10 guests.

However, the room is a major letdown, at the NY Hotel. It is something like one of the small types found in many Hong Kong and Singapore hotels, although it's slightly longer. It looks like it is stuck in a 90s time warp, when the NY first opened its doors for business. While I was okay with the room having hard floors instead of carpets, I'm surprised that they are still using a CRT television. The prices of the LCD and Plasma TVs of today have already become so affordable and I can only assume that this old-school unit should be replaced very soon. The toilets are also very small and quite dreary-looking, presumably due to the rather dim white lights used.

Internet was also a disappointment, despite it being free and wireless. I was able to connect to the 'Net when I checked-in, to read my mails and do some other staff. However, I then went out with my clients for dinner and after coming back, I could not access the Web anymore, and this continued until the next day! This certainly is not acceptable, what more for a hotel situated in the middle of a commerce-oriented city like Johor Bahru, and they need to either replace their router or upgrade their Internet connectivity!

The room came with breakfast and it was quite satisfactory, although the hotel's Palm Garden Coffee House should increase the variety on offer. Some of the food available for breakfast included Nasi Lemak, cereal, a small selection of western fare, and also an egg station.

Despite paying an affordable RM190 net for this Double Room, looks like NY Hotel has to conduct a complete makeover of the premises, in order to spruce it up into something more modern and comfortable (and not just compete on price alone). Otherwise, they can be sure of losing their customers to other better hotels in the city, including Grand Paragon, Mutiara, Thistle, Puteri Pacific, as well as the soon-to-open Renaissance and DoubleTree by Hilton.

Room Tip: Go for a renovated Deluxe Premier Room and avoid the old-school Deluxe ones!

Stayed at this hotel on 20 July 2012 for 1 night with couple of friends. Was quite skeptical with the hotel as it looked quite old, and there wasn't aircon at the lobby, which made the whole lobby very stuffy. Lift was super small and could probably only have at most 10 people in the lift. When we reached our floor (18th), it was like an outdoor 'lobby' with a few sofas.

The rooms however, was not bad. Nice furnitures and bed was cosy. The minus points are the television and the toilet. They are still using the old-school bulky television sets which kinda spoil the whole set-up of the room. Toilet was quite run down and rusty taps for the shower and the basin.

Overall quite nice experience though.
