I was staying a night at Traders Hotels Puteri Habour on Christmas Eve with my family. We got the Puteri Habour Family Theme Park Package for RM$600 (booked directly from the hotel website), the room came with 2 tickets to Hello Kitty Town and Little Big Club, 2 breakfasts and complimentary parking.

Our room has a beautiful view of the marina. The size of the room was alright, but with an extra bed fitted in, the space became a little tight for our family of 4 (husband, wife and two preschoolers). The bed and pillows were very comfortable, I had a good rest and so were my children. The bathroom is rather smallish, but very clean and well-stocked with amenities. The only complain that I've got is the design of the shower cubicle - when I showered, the whole bathroom gets pretty wet!

The staff attended to us at front-desk was less smiley than I would have expected for a Shangri-La standard, but the staff at the Harbour Cafe, where we had our breakfast made up for it. They were attentive and cheery despite the huge turnout on Christmas morning. The breakfast spread was splendid! There were cuisines from International to authentic Malay and Chinese food. There was even a gluten-free selection, much to my kids delight (they are gluten-intolerence)! We ate so much that we had to skip lunch that day.

The other staff that created wonderful momeries for us during our stay was Roger from the Skybar. We had our Christmas Eve dinner at Skybar Restaurant, located next to the swimming pool. It was a very romantic setting, overlooking the marina and the Johor Strait, but we kind of spoilt it for many guests there by bringing our two hyper and super chatty children.

The staff at Skybar were very accommodating to our needs. Because it was Christmas Eve, the restaurant was supposed to be serving just one set menu for all, but we had kids tagging along, so we ordered some kids-friendly food from the poolside's snack menu and Roger helped to split it into two portions, nicely for both our children. On top of that, they threw in some complimentary french fries for our kids, the only two under-aged guests among the 6 or 7 couples, romancing under the stars on the special holiday.

When my children were done with their food, they started to get a little impatient waiting for our 4-course dinner to finish, Roger came to our rescue again, offering complimentary orange juices for our kids and entertain them from time to time. We had an enjoyable Christmas dinner, despite the over-priced set menu (cost around SGD$100 per pax) and the weird tasting beef tartare.

There is still a lot of constructions going on around the hotel; most of the F&B and retail outlets aren't open for business yet, but when everything is up and ready in another few more years, I believe this hotel will truly become the best in JB.

Room Tip: The marina view is worth paying a little bit more.

Overall, a good stay but not outstanding. It ticks all the boxes for a four-star hotel but isn't memorable, and is definitely very pricey for a four-star.

Pros: Clean rooms, good service, friendly staff. Good location for those visiting Legoland and Little Red Cube (Hello Kitty) and Singapore -Tuas is a short drive away. Area will be attractive once fully developed.

Cons: Expensive, sterile, small rooms. Minimal security - anybody can access the rooms from the lobby. Lack of eateries and malls in the surrounding area - everything closes early. General blandness of Johor itself - next time I'll skip JB and just fly straight to Singapore (the purpose of my trip was to make day trips into Singapore via Tuas).

Great room with equally great service! Breakfast spread not to be missed.
The small infinity pool is a riot with the kids. Love the bridge connecting from the lounge area to the pool area.

Minor issue is the waiting time for breakfast, never before encountered with other hotels. There was a long queue and hungry people looking angry. heh.

Good for family with kids. Legoland is nearby and hello kitty town, the little big club and let's place is just a stone's throw away.

Probably not for people who are not so kid friendly as the place is swarming with kids. heheh

Room Tip: if you want to avoid the ciggarette smell avoid the last room at level 3 (near the bridge). there is a smoking corner there.
