“Cockroach in room despite recently-opened hotel”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Upon driving into hotel carpark, I can tell that this is an very old building, and the hotel management probably bought over the building and refurbished it.

Very small hotel carpark and many cars are parked illegally on the ramps between different floors.

Hotel check-in could not locate my booking but luckily I had a printed voucher so they have to "honour it first", was given a room facing Kotaraya bus terminal.

Very basic room with no fridge or safe, saw small cockroaches on the floor after turning on the lights, yuck - could not sleep fearing being swarmed by them at night.

Breakfast was terrible with cold tea and watery omelettes, the mee mamak was laden with MSG.

The hotel is located on a dangerous looking street that I had to drive to the mall (only 400m away), lots of beggars and hooligans hanging around on kerbside.

Bad experience overall.

Room Tip: Do not stay here if you fear cockroaches.

Towel : Yes
Toiletries : Yes
Minibar : mineral water & coffee maker
Restaurant : Yes
Hot shower : Yes & Bathtub
Wifi : Yes (daily renewal to be requested at front desk)
Airport to Hotel : 25-30 mins

To reach to your room floor you will have to swipe using your room key card. Bed is comfy but there is no wardrobe, only a mirror with attach hangar.

You get basic channels from Malaysia TV station and also the cable channels from Singapore.

Toilet is a basic standing shower with hot and cold selection which is very roomy to move about. Those who have the habits of using only the hotel toothbrush and toothpaste well you might have to bring your own for this hotel as they do not provide; only shampoo, soap and shower cap.

Hotel breakfast is ok, more to local flavor selections.

There is a car rental provider just below the hotel basement which you can see from the hotel entrance which I presume only open 8am to 5pm. Also there is no convenient store nearby so maybe you will need to get your supplies ealier

Just 5 minutes walk from the hotel is the Johor Bahru City Mall across the pedestrian bridge. 1 stop centre for all that you need from shopping, cinema and food outlet and even banking.

Taxi is priced at RM 44.00 from the airport to the hotel and as for taxi going to the airport depending on the hours some taxi might cost you from RM 45 - RM 70 so be prepared to haggle you way for a cheaper price or find another cheaper price taxi, for those who backpack their way maybe you can find taxi outside or nearby the shopping mall where taxi frequently drop other passengers.

Those who plan to travel to Singapore, the Johor Bahru City Mall is connected to the train station going to Singapore so it is nearer and conveniet for a day tripper but you might want to check the schedule to avoid crowds for weekend or maybe even after office hours and people working in Singapore tends to commute back to JB for a cheaper place to stay.

Room Tip: Front facing room (same as the entrace door of the hotel lobby) might have a wider facing view of th...

Stay away from this hotel! Very noisy outside & had trouble sleeping esp when the housekeeping staff with loud voices doing their chores late in the evening. Woke up in the middle of the night to sound of scary bumps at the next room due to thin wall. Room has funny smell, bed-cloth still got stain. Just found out the road outside is famous for crime spots ( jln wong ah fook). Not recommended to go out at night. Drug addicts loitering around & snatch thefts rampant even on broad daylight. Doesn't feel safe here with suspicious characters staring at you outside the hotel on the way to nearest city square mall

The hotel was a refurbished office building, thus, the layout of certain rooms was based on how the designer re-configure the rooms. I stayed there for a 3 day workshop.
What is good
1. The x-deluxe king room is of good size
2. Good choice of food for lunch

What is not so good
1. The flooring is laminated wood, and they didnt provide a room slipper. After a long day with sweaty feet, the feeling was definitely uncomfortable to walk around
2. No cupboard to hang your clothes. Instead, they provide a hanging track near the mirror to hang clothes. Positioning of the track near the mirror may inspire nightmares at night
3. Very cheap laminated table
4. Bed was set against a wall which is a thin partition. Noises from the outside corridor can be clearly heard and created vibrations onto the wall.

Room Tip: Please get the X- deluxe king room

I paid RM200 for deluxe room 512. Its quite spacious, compared to others (i refer to the escape route map). Staff quite helpful, except for the security staff which i first thought it was a statue, never ask if guest need assistants. No complaint of the room, but the flooring (artificial parquet) felt like moist and i dont know why. I had to wear the bath flipper in the room for the whole stay.

Breakfast was ok but some of the foods were not refilled. There is no non-smoking floor, so u have to get the staff to remind the smoking guests to keep their room door close. The smell gets to the room easily because the big gap between door and floor.
