4 of us travelled to Kukup National Park on Saturday from the other side of JB, looking for something different to do over the weekend. We were not disappointed and enjoyed our day out. The drive there was pretty and we felt almost like we were on holiday. We took a boat over to Palau Kukup National Park as soon as we arrived. Boat was fairly priced at RM10 per person and we enjoyed our short trip over to the island, passing the floating fishing areas on the way over. The park itself was small but interesting and a nice place for a short walk. Saw an otter, a lizard and some monkeys so I was happy! Enjoyed sitting up at the lookout tower as there was a cooling breeze at the top. All in all a nice day out if you are in the area.

I visited Kukup with a tour, we stayed for about 2.5 hours. We had a delicious seafood lunch at a local restaurant, then we boarded a ferry for a 5 minute ride to the fishing farms. I really enjoyed seeing this unique way of fishing. Once we returned, we walked around the village, which is all on stilts, above the sea. It was fascinating, as the locals are all so friendly. We snacked on some freshly picked pineapple as we walked. The tide was out at the time of my visit. This is a terrific place to take some great photos, as it is very unusual, very colorful.

Kukup is a fishing village, a very commercial fish village in Johor. I am not sure how many local resident staying there but you can see a lot of resort over there. Please do not think of the resort as those luxury type that you will see at any beaches. The resort here basically is the renovated local residential or some new build bungalow to cater for the need of the tourist every year. Depends on the $$$ that you pay, you will get different grade of the stay. Of course I am not saying if you get a cheap deal, means that is not good. It really depends on the owner. Normally it is an all in package which included 1 lunch & dinner and tea break. You need not to do anything as even BBQ dinner, there are people who cook for you. Food generally quite yummy.

There is not much to see around that area. You can walk along the street to experience and see the other type of resorts and temple. You will visit the kelong and mangrove park - quite a nice walk for me(on own expenses).

You might want to bring your own games & card if you find too boring. Normally the resort you are staying should have at least KTV installed. So you will have entertainment!

A nice weekend gateway if you have not been here which is away from the city buzz.

You won't go wrong to expose your kids closer to nature. Mangrove forest is unique and enlightening. A must visit place if one travel to south of Malaysia.

From the view, Pulau Kukup National Park is better than Tanjung Piai National Park.
But I see they did not do any maintenance there and not even a park ranger on site to guide or assistance. Nothing much to see ... all mud!!!

Also visited the kelong ... nothing to see ... not much fish!!!

The only plus point is the fresh seafood.
