Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru

The color of the hotel attracted our eyes in the late night when we were so tired coming from Singapore and accidently must stay in Johor because no more train ticket to Kuala Lumpur. We just walk from Johor Bahru Sentral (the train ticket person explain really well about hotel near JB Sentral : full of thank Pak Cik) and cross the fly over. We dont have enough energy anymore to look around another hotel and just decided to choose this hotel and lucky us because there is only one room left (note : in the weekend ). The staff were very polite and gave us the best suggestion dealing with our limited budget (no breakfast included n it reduced aroud RM 35). Eventhough we had a bit problem when entered the room (another couple claimed that it was their room with many reasons ), but the staff solve the problem smoothly.. Finally we get our room, it was simple but quite big for budget hotel n clean.. very clean..with all standard budget hotel facilities...i dont have more time to think..just take a bath n sleep..till morning. .Thanks to the staff, plan next year to visit Johor Bahru n stay here again.. Hopefully can choose another room with better view.. n with big discount :D

Room Tip: Ask the staff to choose room with better view..

We stayed here last weekend. It is located next to the jb sentral and the jb city square. The whole area, however, does not convey the image of a safe area for sleeping peacefully. We had a noisy room as it faces the road. Parking is a real headache. We have to park at the city square parking and crossed the road to get to the hotel with our luggage and all. Not suitable if you travel heavy or with kids. Our deluxe room has a mini fridge with glass door and water boiler. The room is a bit empty without decoration; no picture frame on the walls. On the second day we managed to get to the club lounge for guests on the 11th floor; the highest level. It has a refrigerator packed scantily with cold drinks. It also have several sofas with coffee tables, old magazines to read, newspaper of the day, a computer, a flat screen tv, and a pool table that we tried playing, which was the first time for my wife. There is also a gym with basic exercise machines at the same level. The shortcomings of the hotel, to me, is quite compensated with this facility. The staff is courteous and attend to our needs readily. However, parking can be a serious put off for this hotel, unless you are on foot. Room service is also bad, breakfast is just okay.

Greetings from Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru!

I would like to thank you for taking the time to let us know what an enjoyable stay you had. I am particularly pleased to know that you enjoyed the Club Lounge and the service of the staff. Your positive comments will guide us to upkeep and improve our levels of service and products.

With regards to the sound, occasionally at night, the areas surrounding the hotel may occasionally raise the levels a little bit as the hotel is located in the heart of the city. If the noise had disturbed you and your family during your stay, my humble apologies.

With regards to the room service and breakfast, I have personally taken note of it and rest assured that we have reviewed and a remedial process has been initiated.

The team and I look forward to welcome you back to Citrus Hotel Johor Bahru whenever you travel back to Johor!

We stayed in a club room and found it quite satisfactory. I found the club lounge much superior to the rest of the hotel. The staff were polite and courteous and the room was clean.
The location was quite convenient for us as we were coming from Singapore at night. It was easy to walk over from JB CIQ and find something to eat. Just across from the hotel entrance is an eatery that serves cheap and cheerful breakfast. it serves lunch and dinner as well but I only tried the breaky.

If you're couple or travel with kids, this hotel may not be suitable for you. It is more suitable for backpackers. The only good thing about this hotel is enough powerpoints to recharge our gadgets: handphone, tablet, laptop, camera etc. Breakfast was okay. The staffs are helpful and nice.
This is our first time staying at this hotel after having unpleasant experiences at other hotels in Johor Bharu. We booked club room for 2 nights through the hotel website and it was stated in the confirmation slip that we can have snacks at the club lounge all day long but when asked after check in, the receptionist told us that the lounge has already closed. The welcome drinks and in room fruit platter as stated in the slip were also not provided.
Our room faces a shopping complex and busy road and it was noisy all the time. The room rate is overpriced when compared to the facility provided. The room has no painting on the wall and the pillow is like it's been used for ages; it was too thin.
I was really pissed off about the parking. There is no parking space available at the hotel; either you parked at the side of the road which are limited or you have to park your vehicle at a shopping complex nearby which cost you RM3 from 6 pm to 7 am and after 7 am, RM2 every hour. We ended up paying RM13 on checking out from the hotel at 11.30 am. On arrival, we have to drag our luggage from the shopping complex, crossed the busy road and then arrived at the reception of the hotel. We have to do the same in reverse on leaving. Rather than staying here, we would better off staying at a hotel with a parking facility. This really upset me and we don’t want to come back to this hotel again.

First off, if you are driving (or have your own vehicle) - you might want to avoid booking this hotel as they do not have their own parking space (instead, relying on their surrounding buildings parking spaces - one of which is the City Square parking lot).

Now we got the parking out of the way - just let me say that this hotel is a rare gem find smack in one of the busiest districts in Johor Bahru. The rates are reasonable, the rooms are clean and the service are on par (if not better) than some of the higher rated hotels around Johor Bahru.

Will I come back again? A definite YES (only if I am NOT driving).

Stayed at their standard room: Decent size, Modern and tiny bathroom.

Facilities: queen size bed, 2 bedside lamp for reading, 2 side tables, LCD TV, safety box and desk.
Pros:
1) Great Location, walking distance to CIQ (sheltered thru CitySquare and JB Sentral) about 7 minutes walk.
2) Clean and quick service
3) Warm Hospitality from the staffs :)
Cons:
1) No wardrobe, no place for luggage
2) No bath amenities (but will send towels after check-in, have small bar-soap + shampoo)
3) No slippers, no bathrobe
4) No coffee & tea making facility
5) No fridge
Conclusions:
- Don't get tricked with the 50% off at their website. (Even after 50%, I still consider it's no value for money).
- Not a 4* at all >> look at those facility in the room plus no other facilities in the hotel. Dunno why the online travel agents categorized it as 4*.

Room Tip: - To locate the hotel - exit from the office building of CitySquare - Ask for a room with window...

Our whole experience at the Citrus was pretty positive, starting when we booked from NZ and received a free upgrade. We stayed for two nights, arriving from Sri Lanka early evening at Changi Singapore and departing early for Vietnam two days later also from Changi. The Citrus cost at least 50% less than comparable hotels in Singapore. The hotel was very well situated in JB being close to the Central Mall and surrounded by eating places of various kinds. Reception staff were courteous and helpful. Our room was clean and spacious with comfortable bed, fridge, TV and WiFi.
We caught the direct shuttle bus from Changi to JB and left the bus at Immigration. We had been required to take our luggage off the crowded bus at the Singapore checkpoint, put it back on after the formalities then take it off again at the Malaysia entry point. The hotel is situated very close to the Customs and Immigration building, but the trek through the buildings to get to the street were very difficult for two tired elderly people with several pieces of luggage. OK for backpackers, but we should have gone on to the terminal and got a taxi. For the return trip, the Citrus organised a car to take us straight to Changi, which was painless and fast. The bus cost us S$34 and the car S$70.
Breakfast was a considerable and excellent buffet arrayed in the 1st floor café. Staff were very helpful and pleasant, especially on our second day when there had been some confusion over the time of our car’s departure. With assistance from the staff we were fed and out the door in five minutes or less!
We can highly recommend this hotel, especially for short duration stays looking to avoid expensive Singapore options.
