One encounters few upmarket restaurants in Malaysia offering Malaysian cuisine. Selasih is a welcome exception to this general rule. Prices are a little high by Mayalsian standards (20-30 ringgit for most mains) but are good value for what one receives and a bargain by nearby Singapore standards. Emphasis at Selasih is on local Johorean cuisine but one will find dishes served from all over Malaysia including fresh seafood. Whenever I visit, there is generally a food promotion in progress featuring dishes from a particular Malaysian state or in the case of my most recent visit, a Middle Eastern food promotion. Had an excellent lamb dish with briyani rice from the Middle East promotion's menu, just wish I could remember its name! If you happen to be visiting Johor Bahru or on a day trip from Singapore and are in the mood for something different from the usual hawker center fare and willing to splurge a bit, I highly recommend that you give Selasih a try! Getting there: Selasih is attached to the Persada Convention Center in Johor Bahru, within easy walking distance of the well-known City Square shopping center. The Persada Convention Center (and Selasih) are located adjacent to the Kotaraya II bus terminal, providing easy access if one is coming from/going to Singapore by such public transportation as a bus or a taxi.
