“Best value for the little money”
Reviewed August 16, 2011

Pleasant and helpful staffs at the reception. Stayed at Room 620. All A's for the facilities and amenities. Very clean.
The shuttle service bus to Marina Bay and Resort World are of par excellence. Very efficient and on time.

However, The shower room is clogged at times. Reported to the reception staff. Although had been repaired, the problem still persists.
Since the Hotel Restaurant is closed, the Reception staff should be well versed to guide guests where to go for food especially, breakfast. We were given a blank response and we had to walk around and finally found the 7 Spices Restaurant situated about a 3 min walk from the hotel is offering breakfast at 7.00 onwards but with the price equavelant to Sing currency. However nothing can match Penang food. There is also a Chinese Kopitiam at the back row opposite hotel operating from morning till 7.00pm with cheap so called Penang delicacies like Penang prawn mee, nasi lwemak and so on. Very cheap, if you want a kopitiam type of food but none of the satff at the Hotel front line had knoeledge of this. There is a huge Malay buffet style Nasi Padang Restaurant right infront of the Hotel which operates only at night. I have not tried.
Danga Bay which is about 15min walk looks like a failed project. Looks very dark with mostly all the lots closed. I dare not walk there since the atmosphere is not welcoming.

Hi There,

It is a great pleasure to have you as our guest at Tune Hotels Danga Bay.

Thank you for the review, however we are not a budget hotel. We operate on a limited service concept where we provide the basics, bed and shower.

Rooms are made to be space efficient, and by providing only the basics gives us the advantage of offering competitive room rates.

This makes perfect sense, where guests may use these savings to splurge outdoors; and having spent most of the time outdoors; all that are needed is a comfortable bed and shower for a wonderful slumber experience.

Thanks for the review, I hope to see you soon.

Regards,
Sharon DS - Manager (Customer Care)

Overall:
Very new building with ample facilities like
24 hr convenience store, restaurant, lots of free parking, 24 hr security.

Rooms:
Size: Average
Facilities: Adequate but you pay for what you need (ie, pay separately for aircon, TV, etc)
Cleanliness: Good and clean, although we did see a few ants running around.
Comfort: Very good beds and shower.. Can be a bit noisy with ppl walking in the corridor and avoid rooms facing the main road.

Room Tip: Book early and see comments on comfort

This was the second time I stayed in Tune Hotel Danga Bay.
The hotel is clean and almost spotless. Toilets are working with no awful smell. It still looks like new even this hotel has been there for years.
The location is 20~30 minutes drive from Malaysia - Singapore. Taxi will cost between RM10 to RM12 (depends on traffic). There's nothing around the hotel. There's only one restaurant known as 7 Spices, which I didn't try out, and a 7 Eleven where you get free hot water.
Room is OK. My room has 2 single beds which are comfortable. It's also equipped with a safe deposit box, a 32" LCD TV and hair dryer. There's no cup, flask or tumble in the room for hot water. So it's impossible to make coffee even when I brought some instant coffee packs. The room is small but we only sleep there, so we are OK.
There's nearly zero service in the hotel. Keeping the luggage prior check-in requires a fee of RM2 / luggage. No one will carry the luggage for you.
The value is nothing other hotels can beat. Bed, hot shower and toilet paper are included in the package. The rest are chargeable, which includes air-conditional, hairdrier, TV, WiFi, and towers. There are 4 computers with internet in the lobby which is available for free usage.
I paid RM90+ for 2 nights and additional RM30 for two 12-hr blocks of air-cond.
The hotel is quiet at night, although you can hear people walking in the corridor. The sound isolation is bad, but we did get a good sleep quality.

When we first arrived and get in the room, we can not find the aircon remote. Then we went down to the receptionist table and inform them about it. We have to wait approximately 30 minutes just to get the new remote. After a while of waiting we decided to get back and wait in our room, but the receptionist ask us to stay in the lobby, apparently because there is no one to send the remote to our room, we have to bring it ourself.
The receptionist wasn;t very helpful when we ask about places to eat, either they don't know any good places or the guest's interest is not their priority.
The room is quite small but clean. Please note that there is no cupboard in the room.
The bathroom size is small but ok. Only the washtafel was having a problem that the water drainage wasn't working well.
The bus shuttle going to Marina Bay and Sentosa Island is ok, just do not forget to go to the bus office just near the hotel to confirm your seats and bookings.
A choice of low rate hotel when all you need is just a clean place to sleep and shower.

Hi Trisna Rini,

Thank you for completing a Trip Advisor Review on your recent visit to our hotel.

We have a great team of front-desk who are always kind and helpful to the needs of guests. However, I note that you had experienced the contrary.

I would not be able to be precise with the limited information I have here, though I believe that at certain intervals of the day, the front desk would get busy manning the counter with guest check-ins and out. And I would say that this may have contributed to you experiencing the impersonal service which you have described.

Taking note of this, the team are informed of this and measures are taken to ensure this will not happen again to any of guests.

All our front desk have been trained to be friendly and courteous to our guests and service is a culture we strongly adopt.

As with the issues of drainage, please inform the front desk during your stay, to have this sorted for as soon as possible.

Nonetheless, please accept our apologies if we missed your mark on hospitality.

Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Warm Regards,
Sharon - Customer Care Manager

I had a bad experience with Tunes Hotel in LCCT (super cramped) and wasn't looking forward to staying a night at Danga Bay. However, the next day, my opinions of this hotel were changed completely.

Room: It was more spacious than I had expected. I was pleasantly surprised. The bed was comfortable, the room is really clean, it has a window (very important) and the bathroom was decent as well. I had a comfortable sleep!

Location: Not so good. It's quite far from the city center, which makes it a bit of a hassle for those without proper transport. We came by car so went to check out Danga Bay (surprisingly nice, wish it was better promoted though) and Festive Walk is definitely closed. However, there are several restaurants at the shoplots located nearby. You don't HAVE to cross the road for food or limit yourself to the Indonesian restaurant at the hotel.

The staff are friendly and nice. The free wifi is a great extra touch. We enjoyed our brief stay and wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to our friends.

Tune Hotel Danga Bay is value for money. Rooms were surprising spacious, considering its true aim of just providing 5-Star Sleeps at 1-Star Price. I've stayed at Tune Hotel at Kota Damansara, and also at KLIA-LCCT. The rooms at Danga Bay branch is definitely more spacious than the one at KLIA-LCCT.

Tune Hotel Danga Bay serves as a stop point for travellers heading to S'pore. And Tune Hotel has tied-up with supposed luxury coach services to serve the Tune Hotel Danga Bay to Marina Bay Sands or Sentosa Resorts World route.

Compass Coach serves the MBS to Tune Hotel Danga Bay route. But at all cost, DO NOT take Compass Coach. Extremely unprofessional. On their website, Compass Coach lists down various departure timings for the MSB to Tune Hotel Danga Bay route, or vice versa. They are marketed as a luxury coach service that is safe and convenient. There was supposed to be on-board meals for the journey that comes with your ticket price. And also free WIFI. Sounds good? Absolutely not!

I had booked my elderly parents on the 0900hrs departure from MBS to Tune Hotel Danga Bay. When they got to MBS, there was no coach, and neither was there any staff at the Compass Coach counter at MBS. By 0915hrs, still no sign of a coach nor staff. By 0945hrs, the situation has not changed. We called the branch at Tune Hotel Danga Bay, and they told us the staff taking care of the MBS counter had quit, so no one is available to check for Online Ticket Purchases!

No one checks their Online Ticketing System, and Compass Coach assumes no passengers have already duly paid for their tickets. My parents were left stranded because the Compass Coach staff at Tune Hotel Danga Bay told us that there is NO coach departing MBS at 0900hrs after all, since NO ONE had realised my parents were ticket-holders to board that coach.

They said they will dispatch the coach from JB to MBS, but that means my parents will be stranded at MBS till 1230hrs. And no offer of any other solution.

Then finally, the manager agreed to reimburse my parents for their taxi fare if they were to take a taxi into Tune Hotel Danga Bay from MBS S'pore.

The point is not so much about the reimbursement. Who is going to take responsibility if something were to happen to my elderly parents whilst on the way to Tune Hotel Danga Bay? How can I ensure that the taxis they will be sitting in will be as safe as Compass Coach was supposed to be?

AVOID Compass Coach service at all costs, or your holiday will be ruined!

Room Tip: AVOID Tune Hotel's Compass Coach service!
